Publisher's Summary

She never intended to take a husband....

Scotland, 1817. The duke of Manchester’s sister, Lady Sarah Lacey, always abides by the rules of etiquette. Fate, however, has no such confines. On a journey to the Scottish Highlands, Lady Sarah is set upon by misfortune - leaving her without carriage or chaperone, and left to the mercy of a kind and handsome gentleman. Whom (in order to secure a room at an inn) she announces is her husband.

When she proclaims they’re married in public, Professor Braeden McKinnon can’t bring himself to correct the lovely Lady Sarah. After all, her reputation would be ruined. Nor can he tell her that her proclamation is not only legally binding in Scotland, but sharing a room is considered to be an act of consummation.... Now they are bound together until death do they part - even if Sarah has no intention of becoming any man’s wife.

A bit tedious

First off, I really like this series , the family involved and the storyline. But at times the narrator can make the book a bit tedious with their narration. The voice used for Sarah just grated on my nerves most of the book and made her seem whiney. There was a lot going on in the story and it turned into a great adventure with Sarah making things more difficult with her attitude and mixed morals. The concept of an accidental marriage was a stroke of genius for this particular story. I applaud the author for that idea. Overall a very good story though the narrator spoiled it a bit for me. Unaware of Scottish marriage laws, Sarah Lacey unwittingly marries herself to Professor Braedan McKinnon. Both have big plans for their lives and things get complicated when they can't come to a sensible solution. Can their love survive the difficulties and the distance they place between themselves?

Not as good as the last book but okay

Good story; unfortunately, Sarah was annoying! Such a whiny little thing, I fast forwarded through much of her sniveling! Spoil brat! Narrator is excellent!

Nice story

I understood Sarah's streak of independence . I don't get why so many reviews didn't like her character . She reacted how a woman not seeking marriage and wanting her independence will be. Gald I didn't listen to the reviews

Excellent performance but

Listen, if we're going to suspend our disbelief for girls being raised in breeches, book signings, etc., then, for God's sake, don't have every single woman surrounding the heroine tell her about her duty to her husband. If these women are proud of Sara for writing a book and getting published, they're not going to tell her to submit to her husband because men's work is more important.
Beyond that, both the hero and heroine behave selfishly and refuse to have extremely important conversations with each other. Just talk to each other, honestly. Anyway, I'm glad I didn't spend a credit because I won't be giving this another listen.

Misadventure in Scotland

Enjoyable story and excellent narration. the heroine was a bit fussy but also plucky and I enjoyed the traveling and all the problems encountered. the hero was great and had lots of patience. Narrator spoke Scottish dialect very well.

not the best in the series

the first two in the series were good. it's been downhill since. Sarah was a child throwing a tantrum the entire book. narration was passable.

book 6 of Marriage Mart Mayhem series

Of this series, this is the only book I've listened so far.

It started with a bang and I was very entertained by all the situations Lady Sarah encountered along the way for first half of the book. But then the story took a turn and although i expected things to of course take another direction i became annoyed by Lady Sarah and felt let down by her behaviour and inner dialogue. Whether the narrator's interpretation and portrayal of her added to this, I don't know, but i do believe the narrator to have done a great job overall.

If I were Lady Sarah's family I would've told her to pull a finger out, stop wearing out the welcome mat and take responsibility quick sticks.
