Publisher's Summary

The Scottish Highlands, 1816.

Lady Sybil Lacey is every inch an English woman. She’s horrified her best friend is wedding a barbarian Scot. For aren’t Scots naught but brutish, whiskey-swilling lechers? So to find herself secretly attracted to the tall and devastatingly handsome Scottish laird of Bedlay Castle is quite disconcerting....

Liam MacBride is convinced that English ladies are silly sassenachs who think of nothing but social events and clothes. So why is he intensely drawn to Lady Sybil? All they do is quarrel...until loathing turns into undeniable lust.

A tempestuous, fiery romance between an English lady and a Scottish laird cannot end well.

Love these books.

Love these books.
I really wish the sex wasn’t so descriptive. I fast forward and then back to get through those parts. I am addicted to the stories as they are so good.

Sweet but boring

I enjoyed book 2 in this series, and thought I would try this one. It's a sweet tale, but honestly, nothing much happens. Lots of marriage proposals and kissing.. The main obstacle is prejudice for this couple, but that left me feeling frustrated in it's telling.
Many unfair and mean things are done to the h, but she never tells the H about them. That's ok, we could say her character is not a tattle tale.. But no one tells him, and everyone knows, and it's never told at all in the book. That leaves me feeling frustrated. The h says she will deal with it as she sees what's happening, but she doesn't, her way of dealing with it is just to take it. That also doesn't work for me as entertainment. So I was left pretty much bored and frustrated by this book.

super fun

There is not really to the plot beyond prejudice... but still a pretty fun read. Characters do developmayhap a wee too easily, but still.

meddling mother

Oh, I love Scottish tales, and this one is set in the Scottish highlands. Lady Sybil Lacey accompanies her good friend to the Highlands to be with her when she marries a local Laird. There she meets another Laird, Liam MacBride. Liam is surprised to find this English lass is not like the ones he's been told about. Sybil is surprised to find all Scots are not the barbarians they are made out to be. A romance begins to form between these two who have very set opinions of what the other should be. In the course of their romance barriers must be brought down and preconceived notions must be dispelled.

No depth whatsoever

A very bland story with shallow, uninteresting characters. No development of character, no plot to speak of.
Narration is okay but unremarkable (the author should probably take the blame).
The title ‘Duke of Manchester’ sounds particularly jarring.

Wonderful romance

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. What wonderful characters. Lady Mc Bride was a brilliantly aggravating lady indeed.

Don’t miss this one!!

This is my first historical romance in decades-yes decades! And I’m well and truly blown away. Aside from sharing the same first name as the heroine, I loved this story. It captured so much of history and felt true it’s time.
I’m not a fan of 3rd person writing for Romance but it was easy to get into and the narrator did an excellent job. Highly recommend this title and I’m off to find more audiobooks in this series.

Pleasantly surprised

Of the 7 books of the Marriage Mart Mayhem series, I wasn’t in a rush to listen to this book, but I was surprised I liked it as much as I did when I finally got around to it.

There’s a good storyline, likeable (and not so likeable) characters, all with good narration.

I recommend this, and the series. Each story is stand alone but feeds nicely into the next so I suggest listening to each in order for greater context.
