Story
Lady Evina Maclean has heard much about Rory Buchanan’s skill as a healer. What she hasn’t heard is how good the brawny Highlander looks bathing in a waterfall. But Evina can’t afford the distraction, for her ailing father urgently needs care. Only when she’s rendered Buchanan unconscious and dragged him back to her family’s castle does the truth emerge - it’s not Rory she’s kidnapped but his brother, Conran.

Story
Bastard daughter to the king, Rosamunde was raised in a convent and wholly prepared to take the veil...until King Henry declared she would wed Aric, one of his most valiant knights. Suddenly she found herself promising to love, honor, and obey. Rosamunde's education had not covered a wedding night, but the handsome warrior she was now bound to seemed intent on giving her a lesson in the art of pleasure. In no time, Aric was certain, she would surrender to the irresistible passion he promised.

Publisher's Summary
In a spellbinding new Highlands story from New York Times best-selling author Lynsay Sands, the laird of the Buchanans finds the one woman who is his equal in passion and courage.
Aulay Buchanan has retreated to his clan’s hunting lodge for a few days of relaxation. But the raven-haired beauty he pulls from the ocean puts an end to any chance of rest. Though he christens her Jetta, she knows nothing of her real identity, save that someone is trying to kill her. As she recovers, it will not be easy for Aulay to protect her and keep her honor intact when she mistakenly believes they are man and wife…
Jetta sees beyond Aulay’s scars to the brave, loyal warrior she’s proud to call her own. But as the attempts on her life grow more brazen, Jetta realizes that not all is as she believes. And if Aulay is not her husband, can she trust the desire flaring in his eyes, or his promise to defend her with his life?

Sweet, Fun Highlander Addition
It is alway a refreshing change to read a story where both the hero and heroine are sweet, kind, caring people. Ollie was injured and scarred in the battle that killed his twin brother. Ever since then he has kept away from women, who all seemed disgusted by his face. He just wants a little R&R and to go fishing with his younger brother when they come upon a half-submerged ship’s mast with a woman tied to it. She is semi-conscious when they rescue her but she quickly passes out due to severe head trauma (my favorite common theme of this author) but not before getting a good gander at Ollie and calling him her “angel.”
Unfortunately upon awakening Jetta (assumed name) has no memory of herself or those around her but finds Ollie next to her and scantily clad leading her to assume he is her husband. Ollie likes the sound of that too much and thus begins a comedy of errors of sorts.
Ollie and Jetta are very attracted to each other, their honor, sweetness, and personalities as well as their exteriors. While Jetta is in recovery, the fake marriage allows for liberties that Ollie tries to fight honorably against. They both make erroneous assumptions about the others thoughts and feelings all the while there is an ominous presence causing problems and multiple additional head wounds (some day I am going to survey Lyndsay Sand’s historical head injuries).
As the investigation of this evil presence continues and Jetta continues to heal, many couples from the previous Highlander books appear and cause some laugh-out-loud moments.
This book was fairly predictable but in a cozy and comfortable way. It’s easy to know what to expect from a Lyndsay Sands novel: sweetheart MCs, some evil entity that is eventually outed, and many many many head injuries almost to the point of wondering how everyone in her books isn’t permanently concussed. In this case, the story that the evil entity tells is soooooo terrible that I almost sided with the evil entity... like yeah, I guess it makes sense you did all this evil stuff after what you’ve been though. But I won’t share more to avoid spoilers.
Finally I have to address the Joel Froomkin in the room. He did an AMAZING job!!! I love a real Scottish accent and Joel delivers! His accent reminded me at moments of Sean Connery so there is NOTHING wrong with that. He also did such a great job with the female voices (both Scottish and English) that I almost wondered if they brought in a separate female narrator. I was impressed by the emotion he brought to the book as well, especially Ollie’s character. My only complaint here is that the word “grimace” was pronounced in a way that I am not used to and made the author’s overuse of that word VERY apparent. Otherwise it was a fabulous narration!.
This is a nice, non-angsty Highlander read that I think will satisfy anyone but especially Lyndsay Sands fans. The heat and love between the MCs was palpable and the mystery element was worked well in to the story.

The story of each brother is very enjoyable, and for me Aulay's story is endearing. The connection between him and Jetta is great to his surprise from the very beginning. This book will not disappoint. You will be taken on a sensual, emotional and suspenseful ride. LS does it again.

Real enjoyable book 💜
I was hesitant for the sole reason that I’m not generally a fan of male narrators for romance. Its easier for my brain to grasp a female narrator in a male part than it is for my brain to grasp a male narrator reading a female part. I think because women can make deep voices which can be passable but no matter what a man just doesn’t sound like a woman. At least to my brain. Others may have had different experiences but that’s why I tend to stay away from male narrators.
Joel Froomkin made it about as enjoyable as it could be though. He has a great voice and a genuine Scottish brogue (a fake Scottish brogue is just as bad as a male female!) and did as good a job as I think could have been done. I will definitely listen to him again, and will actually give listening to male narrators another try!
As for the story, it was great! There was a nice bit of drama, but not necessarily within the relationships of the couples which I really appreciate it. I don’t always like four of the relationship drama “will they be together?”, “will they break up?, “can they make it through this?”, “no don’t believe that!” This was just a couple learning that they love each other while trying to deal with a murderer! I loved all the secondary characters. I read this book because it was on sale, but its a part of a series. It was fine as a stand-alone story, but I’m sure I would have enjoyed it a wee bit more had I gotten to know the earlier characters. I may go back and listen to the series from the beginning, or I may just move forward from here, I’m not sure yet, but I do think I will revisit the series.

You've got to love the Buchanans
I love all these books. The stories all have mysteries, love and best of all make you laugh. The narration is excellent.....except this narrator has the males sounding wonderfully manly and the females sound like old women with grating voices - even the young ones. Come on, the heroines are young feisty women who have grabbed the attention of sex gods. Take note narrator. PS Obviously he did take note for his subsequent rendition was perfect.

Nice story, but...
I really liked this one, but the narrator... I hadn't listened to it more than 5 minutes when realised that it was going to be a painful listen due to the narrator. Although, he did get tolerable further along the book, for some reason the way he voiced the main character Auley and some of the female voices was really annoying to me. Kinda weird listening to passionate confessions when the voice narrating them seems to be on the verge of a teary breakdown.

loved the story
Loved the story. it was funny sweet with a good mystery story. But I don't like this narrator. His voice sounds so tragic and devastating all the time even when it's a funny part. The mens voices sound as though they're going to start crying especially for Rory's voice, he sounded like an old man. As for the women's voices apart from Jetta's and Mavis' they sound like fish wives. Unfortunately the 8th book of the series is the same narrator but as I like the stories, I will be listening to it. But after that I won't be listening to this narrator again.
