THE BEST OF THE BEST

Mike Duncan got a book deal because of this podcast and while his book is phenomenal, each episode of this masterful podcast is researched, clever, funny, insightful, but true to its own title, it's as historically accurate as possible and you will feel like you can teach a ancient Rome college level history class by using the 200 plus high quality action filled episodes with subjective analysis of objective events

The best podcast about Roman History

Just an absolute must to listen to if you want an easy and digestible introduction to the ancient glory of Rome. (At some times not so glorious). Easy to follow along with and doesn't get to bogged down in the finer details but still manages to find gold nuggets and curiosities. Mike is an absolute star hats off for all his hard work and passion which truly shows in the quality of this (and at a first glance) lengthy podcast. But you will be sad when it's over and do just like me and come back a couple of years later and listen to it again.

PS. Mike Duncan has also made an podcast about the Byzantine Empire so... you know what you must do next. PS

Transports you, informs you, story telling style

My 19 year old son turned me onto these podcasts. They are completely addictive. Before you know it you will be eight hours in! I would say this podcast is kind of a Cliff Notes version of the history of the Roman Empire. it is told in a story telling style that transports you. As you listen, you will soon feel as if you are sitting in an armchair next to a crackling fire. Your favorite uncle is telling you the tale of an Empire as you nurse a beer or a cup of hot chocolate. The narrator has a sharp wit and a good sense of humor that prevents the podcasts from feeling dry or boring. Every podcast is done so well and so much information is presented and researched in the most wonderful way. Please give these podcasts a listen!

ITS BROKEN

Audible needs to fix this one - a huge section of episodes don’t work. I really need to get to the next portion of this show but all the episodes stop working around #110. Please fix this issue because the series is great but I haven’t gone back to it in awhile

So good I listened to it through again

Loved this. The writing is witty and entertaining while imparting knowledge. Gives a sense of roman life while providing valuable context to the facts.
I also found it good to listen back to certain episodes while reading through books on specific events like the punic wars.

Awesome and fascinating

Absolutely superb . Only thing that could be slightly improved is the recording. A pop shield and better compression would really have helped.
Also audible don’t cope well with podcasts with this many episodes and navigating with the app is a nightmare, but no fault of the excellent author

Both a salve and a warning

This well-told history of Rome gathers all the detail and nuance of a distant history in a knowing, often humorous but always relatable telling, casually but carefully delivered. I love this series.

one of my favourite podcasts of all time

I've listened ro this podcast about 2 years ago on a different platform and it is by far one of my favourite of all time. it's easy to digest but thorough. I'm no historian by any stretch but I absolutely loved every minute of listening to this podcast. Mike is an incredible guy and I really appreciate the huge effort he has put into this series and it shows. I'm poor af but one day when I'm back on my feet I hope I can repay the many hours of enjoyment Mike has provided me. I might just listen to this series for a second time, starting right now.
