Publisher's Summary

Glamorous messiah or charlatan? A mask of beauty hides deadly secrets in #1 New York Times and Amazon Charts bestselling author Gregg Olsen’s mesmerizing novel of suspense.

In the Pacific Northwest, detective Lindsay Jackman is investigating the murder of a young journalist found at the bottom of a ravine. Lindsay soon learns that the victim was writing an exposé. Her subject: a charismatic wellness guru who’s pulled millions into her euphoric orbit...

To hear Marnie Spellman tell it, when she was a child, a swarm of bees lifted her off the ground and toward the sunlight, illuming her spiritual connection with nature - an uncanny event on which Marnie built a cosmetics empire and became a legend, a healer, and the queen of holistic health and eternal beauty. In her inner circle is an intimate band of devotees called the Hive. They share Marnie’s secrets of success - including one cloaked in darkness for twenty years.

Determined to uncover the possibly deadly mysteries of the group, Lindsay focuses her investigation on Marnie and the former members of the Hive, who are just as determined to keep Lindsay from their secrets as they are to maintain their status.

Just one more chapter then I will sleep.

this is my 3rd book by Gregg Olson. I really enjoyed the other 2 and I really enjoyed this one! the plots are always unique and not overdone, the characters are deep and well developed, and they keep me up with my usual "ok just one more chapter and I will go to sleep", which means 5 more chapters because I have to know what happens next.
my one complaint is that his novels seem to have female characters that you just cannot stand and they just drive you insane with their terrible decision making. I find myself wanting to scream at them! but I guess this is the mark of a good writer because I definitely find myself deep into the book and fully committed.
In a time where there are so many overdone plots and books with the least surprising twists ever, his novels are new and different with fresh ideas and plenty of suspense. they're also filled with tragedy and heartbreak, so you will absolutely process a lot of emotions.
I have over 400 books in my library, so I am not easy to impress. If I give my stamp of approval, I always promise it's worth the credit! enjoy!

Olsen + Peakes = 🤩🔥😍🙌

I can’t find a narrator I love as much as Karen Peakes. For me, she is so good that I never know if the book is amazing, or if she just makes it amazing. I typically don’t enjoy the “cult” subject matter, however, Olsen is a master at mixing dark subject matter with a lightness that makes listening easy and entertaining. He somehow gets deep down to the heart and soul of women, and makes even the craziest of the crazy relatable. Peakes’s masterful narration and subtle sarcasm tops it off. I definitely recommend this clever, twisted 📖.

Struggle!e to finish.I did not like this Audible at all . Two many Characters and name changing... wish I had not wasted a credit. Sorry I have enjoyed most of the Audible books by Gregg Olsen. But not this one.

good story moves quickly

better than most .modern mystery books I've read lately. Olsen is able to distinguish his characters nicely. no one acts like a Supreme idiot and it was an engrossing listen.

I first read starvation heights by him and I wish he would also continue the true crime writing as well

Author has no knowledge of honeybees.

A basic book on biology might be useful to this author and revisions are advised if credibility is desired.

Excellent book!

Greg Olsen does an excellent job with his books! He has written many true crime which I am sure has helped him create such realistic fictional crime novels. I always look forward to his work. This one was creepy and frightening to me because of how realistic it was. Many groups are formed from people whose influence ruin their lives. Don’t miss out on this one! The narrator did a great job also!

creative writing 101

the author has a serious addiction to metaphors. They're everywhere, like an omnipresent abuse of symbolism. lol. that's what it's like.

I wish the writing were better, because the story is there.

The narration sounded robotic at times, which could also be poor editing, but either way it was a bit annoying and took me out of the story.
