Publisher's Summary

The rules: No kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all.... No falling in love.

Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy, right?

Too bad he's committed to making her break every rule....

Football has been good to Drew. It's given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there's one problem: She's shut him down. Completely.

That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it's up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she's truly hooked. It's a good thing Drew knows all about winning.

Contains mature themes.

Worth the wait

The Hook Up is one of my all time favorite books so I looked for it when I started getting hooked on audio books. I was surprised to see an audiobook hadn’t been made. Over a year later, I preordered it as soon as I saw it was in the works. There was no way I wasn’t going to love it with narration by Teddy Hamilton and Maxine Mitchell. Drew Baylor is the swooniest hero ever with his steadfast dedication to Anna and his desire for stability and belonging. I also found it easy to relate to Anna and her battles with insecurity and frustration in her lack of direction as she starts her last year of college. The supporting characters add a lot of life to the story and there are more books to follow, starting with Gray Grayson and his pink Fiat.

Well worth the wait - all the starts!

Kristen Callihan's "Game On" series is one of my favorites and I have been waiting with bated breath for the books to come to audio. I was not disappointed with this first installment! The Hook Up has a special place in my heart because it was my first ever Kristen Callihan read. From that moment she has been on my auto-buy list of authors.

Maybe part of my enthusiasm for this audio is having waited so long, but it's honestly also just a strong, emotional story and the central couple, Drew and Anna, are wonderful characters. The way Teddy Hamilton and Maxine Mitchell bring them to life is just a joy; they are both so talented and were well-cast in the roles.

I hope the other books in the series are in production and that other talented narrators (though if Teddy and Maxine did the entire series I would be perfectly happy!) are cast to bring Gray and Ivy, then Dex and Fi, and finally, Finn and Chess to our ear holes. I can't wait!

I highly recommend this one for anyone who enjoys a college sports romance with appealing central and supporting characters.

👎

It started out okay but soon turned into a very long story about nothing.. There were some heartwarming moments but honestly I feel it’s not worth the credit. I did not enjoy the useless dialogue and ridiculous drama that never made sense. The narrators were good but they didn’t make the story better.

Good but had it's moments...

This started out with so much potential. I was like ok a cute sassy meet cute with some sexy times and light drama then bammm here comes the whiny insecure female the constant push and pull it just gets exhausting. Overall I finished the book but on the fence about weather it will be a repeat listen

These narrators were all wrong!

The Hook Up is one of my favorite books ever, but these narrators did such a disservice to it.

Maxine Mitchell sounds like she’s in her late 30’s/early 40’s and doesn’t convince as a 21 year old Anna. She also reads the book in a flat tone, rather than acting it out, thus her chapters just obscured all the sparkle from the book. Brooke Bloomingdale would have been perfect as Anna in both believability and the magic that is her acting prowess.

Teddy Hamilton is great for Rom Coms but his fake surfer boy accent made a mockery of the complexity of Drew’s character.

I wish I had never listened to this so these narrator’s voices didn’t muddle my experience of this book.

Outstanding emotion filled

Bad high school scars, tragedy and humor bring this story to life. It has loyalty you seldom experience anymore and tenacity in spades. Expect to feel every emotion to the end.

Could've Been put together better

It felt like this story stayed on a loop for too long with the main characters. Then it felt like the story would never end. It's a good storyline otherwise

Well gosh…

I wasn’t expecting this when I started. I mean, sports romance… it tends to strike a certain tone with very few exceptions. I was so not ready for Drew, Mr. Total Devotion and Anna, Ms. Silently Crippled By Her Own Self Esteem. I wasn’t ready for a total overview of their relationship, including two pretty brutal arguments that, honestly, felt familiar from moments in my own marriage. I wasn’t prepared for sharp writing, poignancy, and excellently balanced steam.

Yeah, I wasn’t ready for this story. I flipping loved it. It was so well paced, well balanced and wonderfully told.

My one nitpick was that I’d liked a more even distribution of perspectives. We hear largely from Anna, and less from Drew. And since I love pov of male characters this was a shame. But it didn’t detract from the sorry! This is just me being selfish.

I hope Teddy Hamilton and Maxine Mitchell are narrating the rest of the series. Since I have no patience I’ll read the e-books of the rest of the series but will return for the audiobooks too if they narrated. Superb performance! I especially liked that Mitchell’s male voices sounded similar at times to Hamilton’s. That was cool!

Wow, so pleased with this book. Highly recommend it, definitely worth the $$ of the credit.
