Publisher's Summary

“The queen of beach reads” (New York) delivers an immensely satisfying pause-resister in this tale about a summer of scandal at a storied Nantucket hotel.

Fresh off a bad breakup with a longtime boyfriend, Nantucket sweetheart Lizbet Keaton is desperately seeking a second act. When she’s named the new general manager of the Hotel Nantucket, a once Gilded Age gem turned abandoned eyesore, she hopes that her local expertise and charismatic staff can win the favor of their new London billionaire owner, Xavier Darling, as well as that of Shelly Carpenter, the wildly popular Instagram tastemaker who can help put them back on the map. And while the Hotel Nantucket appears to be a blissful paradise, complete with a celebrity chef-run restaurant and an idyllic wellness center, there’s a lot of drama behind closed doors. The staff (and guests) have complicated pasts, and the hotel can’t seem to overcome the bad reputation it earned in 1922 when a tragic fire killed 19-year-old chambermaid Grace Hadley. With Grace gleefully haunting the halls, a staff harboring all kinds of secrets, and Lizbet’s own romantic uncertainty, is the Hotel Nantucket destined for success or doom?

Filled with the emotional depth and multiple points of view that characterize Hilderbrand’s novels (The Blue Bistro, Golden Girl) as well as an added dash of Roaring Twenties history, The Hotel Nantucket offers something for everyone in this compelling summer drama.

pre-read suggestions!!

part 1 - About 1/3 of the way done with this book and felt compelled to let new-to-Elin Hilderbrand readers know they should read both the Blue Bistro and the Beach Club before reading this new one. no spoilers, but characters in those books surface again here!

part 2 - I think this one is now in my top 5 Elin Hilderbrand books. I hate when people leave reviews as say "not one of ____'s best" without saying which ones they prefer instead?!

This book captures parts of a number of her past books & themes that I love and is her signature - service industry of Nantucket in the summer, someone who is passionate about cooking/food, island gossip, Island real estate, people from the main line PA, a love interest between the ultra-wealthy and service industry person, Caribbean.

Bummer

I typically love her books but this one fell short. Finished it but only in hopes it would get better -it didn’t

Woke and Relevant?

Come on! I listen to books to get away from all the wokeisms and stupid slang common in every day language.
I feel like Elin was trying way too hard to incorporate culturally significant topics to stay relevant. I found it disturbing. It’s a great story line and would have been a lot more believable without the culture references. I almost died when she worked in Pop Smoke. 🤦🏻‍♀️ And, cool it with the hashtags, ma’am.

Love the character development!

As always, I love Elin’s character development. She builds people who are interconnected, pulling in ones from the past, and building a story line that is visual. I felt as though I were in the Hotel Nantucket, experiencing the room decor, the food, and the personalities. My only complaint is that I gobbled the book up too quickly and will have a long wait until the next. Perhaps while I wait, a visit to Nantucket is in order!
Huge compliments to Erin Bennet too - a favorite narrator of audiobooks who has become synonymous with Elin Hilderbrand books.

I loved everything about it,

I’m recovering from an injury that has forced me to sit still. I’ve never been good at sitting still. This audio book has kept me occupied, entertained and lifted my spirits. I enjoyed the characters, the story and the narration. This is my first novel by this author and I will definitely be looking for more from her.
I really did feel like I was vacationing in Nantucket and I really needed that.

ENJOYABLE!

Suspend all belief, and dive into the story of a grandly refurbished hotel with a ghost whose own story is well worthy of telling. Add in a little love, sex, and heartache, plus the requisite happy ending, and you have a sweet summertime read.

Loved it.

Elin Hilderbrand does it again! If you love her books, you will not be disappointed. I love when past characters pop up in her new books. I finished it in 2 days and was sad it was over.

Excellent story, excellent author, excellent narrator!

Excellent story, author ( of course!), narrator (natch!) !
I LOVE this book ! Worth every penny or credit. I have read all of Elin Hilderbrand’s books ( audible, kindle and book…for every story !). As I read or listen to her books, I find myself wanting to Google the characters to see their faces, to see the places they go to, restaurants, beaches etc on Nantucket. The characters feel so real. I read or listen to at least 5 books a week…a chain reader ?……and because time is precious, I don’t waste it. I preorder every Elin Hilderbrand book so I don’t miss out. If you are thinking of buying this story, I know you will love it. I give it 10 stars ! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I enjoy this author very much and this book did not disappoint . It’s such a great story and topped off with a ghost! I love when a ghost is thrown in. I also love when characters from other books are sprinkled in, so fun. It seems like there’s going to be more to follow and I can’t wait.
