Publisher's Summary

“Welcome to the family,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant, manicured hand. I smile politely, gazing around the marble hallway. Working here is my last chance to start fresh. I can pretend to be whoever I like. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own....

Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband, Andrew, seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am.

They don’t know what I’m capable of....

One Big Cliche’

It seems these days that people who write the descriptions of books are far more talented at marketing than the authors are at ideas and language. This was not “an addictive psychological thriller” but rather a painfully predictable narrative of stereotyped characters and eye-rolling events. I absolutely saw everything coming and the one-dimensional characters were just plain boring. I keep wasting Audible credits on inaccurately reviewed titles and Audible makes you jump through hoops to get a promised refund when dissatisfied. This was truly time wasted.

You’ve heard this story before

Spoiler alert if you’ve read ‘The last Mrs Parrish’ this book is extremely similar. It’s almost as if it was intentionally copied there were so many things in common. That being said, ‘The last Mrs Parrish’ is my favorite book, so I still enjoyed hearing a different take on the clever story. It’s definitely worth the listen.

Plot Convenientls and Contrivances Abound

Horrible characters doing horrible things and somehow getting away with it all. Abandon logic and rationality with this one.

don't waste your money

primitive language that invokes 0 emotions, i felt like this was a freshman high school assignment to write a short suspense novel. none of the plot ideas feel complete;; she gets an idea good enough to "hook" the reader, and next it fizzles out with some bizarre resolution. save your money. don't understand why so many positive reviews.

The Housemaid

5 ⭐️
Really good story. I literally could not put this one down. Ex-con gets a job as a Housemaid for a family with one child, a 9 year old girl. You don't know why she was in prison, but she has trouble getting and keeping a job. She is living in her car when she gets the job as the live-in house keeper. The family is extremely wealthy, but her room is a former closet and the door lock is on the outside. The wife is bitchy and unpredictable and the husband is gorgeous and understanding. The 9 year old is a spoiled brat. All is not well in this house.
I highly recommend this audio recording!

Not great…

I like to listen to trashy suspense books while I work in the yard. This one wasn’t bad enough to make me stop listening, but it was pretty bad. The “plot twist” was so obvious that I saw it coming a mile away and I was hoping it was a red-herring but, no, it is that obvious. The narration wasn’t great either. She tried to do accents but could only keep it going half the time.

Read this NOW!

AMAZING BOOK! I LOVED LOVED LOVED it. I did not know what I was getting into when I started reading but from that jaw dropping first chapter, I knew I was in for a whirlwind. I love that I still didn’t know anything after part one ended… or part 2 for that matter. It kept surprising me. I couldn’t recommend the book more.

sensational

This is an author to follow absolutely unputdownable, a word I see used often but not by me. Loved the characters even the baddie a some points. Just one of those books you don't Want to end. If I have nothing good to say about a book I say nothing at all I mean everyone has to make a living but when a book rates high with me I like to rate. This book and author done just that.

4 1/2 out of 5

Every now and then I discover an outstanding author.
The Housemaid is perfectly written, with twists and turns that leave you feeling like you are on a rollercoaster at the funfair.
Such believable characters who you invest in from the first page.
Just buy this book, it's frankly brilliant.
Thankfully Freida McFadden has written quite a few books and I for one can't wait to read them ALL!

Not what you expect!

The storyline will grab you, there is a real twist in there that will keep you guessing! there was a time where I became uninterested, however, that's why I love audible because at the points where I start to lose interest, I start listening to the book whilst doing chores etc, and get right back into the interesting bit! Some of the character development wasn't really there for me, but all in all the storyline kept me guessing so I enjoyed it.

Interesting thriller

There were a lot of great reviews for this book. It depends what you look for but personally I find it cliched and too unbelievable so I’m not going to recommend it. The narration is very good though but I would triple your speed to get through it quick.

Compelling

Although Millie seemed a bit willing initially to be swept along by gossip, overall this is a dark and compelling narrative.

Each chapter weaves, twists and turns delightfully. It is a must listen!

A good page turner

It was lm afraid a little inevitable but still a good read There's such a lot of "suspense " books based entirely on the wealthy which is a tad monotonous If something is too good to be true There's a reason Narrated well

Totally absorbing!

Never judge a book by its cover! Plenty of twist and turns with some very believable characters, certainly plays with the listeners emotions. So Totally absorbing made a long drive enjoyable. Looking out for more titles from this author.

AMAZING!!!!!

I could not get enough of this book! Every single chapter had me on edge and left me wanting more! The most sickening plot twist I did not see coming! This was a 10/10 book for me! I’m usually into romance novels, but the psychological thriller train now has my heart thanks to this book! Highly recommend if you’re looking for some suspense.

Good fun, great ending

While the Brooklyn accent was annoying the story was super compelling and in the last half I couldn't stop listening. I found myself saying "HELL YEAH" when the story hit the turn into the end. Would recommend.
