Gripping and mysterious!

I've read a lot of crime drama novels and this is definitely one of my favorites! I'm also picky about the narrators voice when it comes to audiobooks. This narrators voice didn't annoy me like some do. He did an excellent job with his acting and expressions. I could really imagine the scenes and characters clearly in my head as I listened. if you like Jo Nesbo, Henning Georg Mankell or Stieg Larson you will love his!

Good story

We’ve been audible members for 18 years so this isn’t our first audio book.

The author does a good job of telling the story. It’s the story. There are ways to give you the sense of violence without dragging it out. We bought the book to hear an intelligent mystery novel.

The narrator was excellent. Carried the accents well enough that we would look for him as a narrator again.

Suspenseful!

The Lars Kepler team is so good. I can hardly put their books down. This one was, as always, a good read BUT anytime I’m reading and come across child abuse I have a hard time. Wish they’d stay away from that topic, but it is out there, unfortunately. Overall though I would recommend this book.

Storyline was lacking

The Hypnotist could have been a fantastic story. I'm aware it was a really long book, however, it FELT like a really long book. It was like multiple books inside one, there is almost 3 storylines going on and I'm not sure it worked for me. I kept listening and I liked the story but there was just so much extra that didn't feel necessary and for me that was the issue. Also, I felt like the husband and wife had the worst communication that I have ever seen. I have no idea how their relationship continued as it was and how they never talk to each other throughout the book. It all felt off, wrong.

Simply awful

Thus is one of the worst books I've ever listened to. The plot was all over the place with a veritable clown car full of villains. It just drags on and on. There are over 100 short chapters, but each one begins with a time and date stamp. This isnt necessary if the chapters are only five minutes long and 20 chapters in a row have the same stamp. Some of the problem is translation, some is narration, but the majority is the writing and plotting. It makes no sense and has too many loose ends. For example, men walking around with blood dripping from their shorts, a suspect bites a police officer and nothing further is said about it, a naked boy is found hiding under a bed with a naked man and a video camera - but the police leave them under the bed and do nothing???

Waaaaaaay too Long

I really wanted to hang in there but gave up at chapter 83. It dragged on and on. Could've shaved over an hour or 2 off the book. I'm not giving up though. I do like this this team of Authors and Love the Narrator, have several books spoken by him

One of the stupidest books imaginable

The dreadful narrator was the perfect choice for this dreadful book. The main character, whom I think we are supposed to like, is a pill popping psychiatrist whose multiple mistakes with his patients leads to bloodshed in a number of horrific ways. Lots of bloody red herrings. His addiction to pain killers and sleeping pills incapacitates him to the point where he sleeps through the kidnapping of his hemophiliac son and his wife's near-fatal poisoning by the kidnapper. The book is not only awful, it's long. Much, much too long. Spare yourself.

Disliked every character

not sure if that was because of the way the narrator voiced them or not. I don't exactly know how to describe what I hqted so much but, the story was written as if it was describing in detail a movie version of the story. I'm sure he might be a good narrator for a different type of story but his voicing of the female characters was sooooo annoying and the main character came off as a whiny prat.

Tee-Dee-Us

Is it me or was this book way longer than it needed to be? The story had a promising start, the narrator was fine. I managed to finish it...surviving a convoluted plot, bizarre twists, plodding flashbacks and a chapter with an odd switch from third to first person POV. The characters were loose sketches, but the dialogue did help me rank the least likeable among them. (Did anyone not find Simone unpleasant and annoying?) I'm less harsh than I'd be otherwise because of my more positive experiences with Lars Kepler crime fiction. For anyone wanting to wade into the Joona Linna series, sorry but I don't suggest beginning with this one.

Excellent dark drama

This compelling, and often creepy, story is full of suspense and twists as each chapter unfolds! Could not put it down.
