Publisher's Summary

For John, death was merely the beginning.

After saying goodbye to his life on earth, he never expected to find a brand new world still awaiting for him.

One where immortals flew through the clouds and ancient evils hid below the surface.

One where fables, myths, and legends filled every corner.

One where he could finally start anew.

Now, however, John is about to learn a valuable lesson, for any place humanity rules will always be the same - a domain where sin and ambition can only be tamed by power.

Will he have the strength to walk this road on his own or will he be unable to heal the old wounds hidden deep within his heart?

Find out by listening to The Idle System

This book contains a story of self-discovery, ambition, and revenge. Inspired by classical LitRPG and Xianxia, it's a new take on the genres. Containing romance without harem elements, The Idle System isn't a novel for the weak of heart, but one for those enamored with planetary-levels of destruction. If the aforementioned tropes are to your taste, don't hesitate to buy this bundle.

This volume contains the first four novels in The Idle System series: The New Journey, The Rogues, The Birth and The Sins, all of which are available separately.

Don’t apologize for making a powerful character

Super powerful characters have there place. That is why people enjoy one punch man. It is not for everyone. Sometimes readers get tired of a main character just barley winning by a last minute hail marry, and want to just see some over the top action. It has its place and can be fun, especially if you read a lot of grimdark genre and need something a little bit lighter.

Anyway the reason I give this book 5 stars is because it is great for what it is, a fun story. I’m not comparing it to a 5 star in high fantasy. The writer is getting better especially compared to the first book. Plus I respect independent authors who are trying to develop and tell their own unique versions of stories. Most work a normal job and write in their free time.

If your using this review to decide if you want to purchase this book then I’ll explain a few more things.

1. The book uses game mechanics at first similar to those ideal games you see on smart phones and tablets. Later you will be introduce to some other systems.

2. I like an intelligent MC, not more balls than brains. The MC never goes full macho mode, and is far more calculating especially in the 4th book. Still could go for a little bit more intelligent, but I have very high standards, so it is just a preference.

3. The MC powers through people and levels using tactics that seem obvious at first glance, but other MC don’t do in other books which makes him look a little OP. I personally wanted an over powerful character because they are fun to read between other books. I would say he is not as OP as you would think but sets the situations up in his favor which is what a smart person would do for combat. He bypasses that altruistic trope and is even a little sinister.

4. The author is getting a start so there might be some rough patches in the story telling or writing, but it gets better by the end. Still needs some work, but I still enjoyed it over all.

I hope this helps. This was written from and iPhone so forgive me for any mistakes found in the review.

Psychopathic protagonist

The protagonist is a psychopathic internet "nice guy" drunk with power and without any understanding of emotion. The math is bad, killing hundreds of thousands of monsters in a two-year grind, or reading trillions of maps at a few seconds each is still going to take eons. There is never a sense of danger, characters are bland remaining 1 dimensional and don't stick around for long. He slaughters millions of common humans without a second thought because they're "bad", then gets up on a high horse about defending individuals.

Most recently where I'm at, he needed to knock out the love interest for what basically equates to surgery. Before doing so, he assures her he won't do anything with her unconscious body. This is after he's been kissing and flirting hardcore during training sessions, and making a point to confirm they're both virgins. Creepy as heck. While passed out, he comes to the realization that he "loves her".

I do not regret this purchase because it's a lot for one credit, and the logic and storytelling is hilarious. The narrator is -ok- a few pronunciation errors like pronouncing misCellaneous with a hard C, and a mechanical drone to his voice. The whole thing is a nightmare fever-dream of weaboo power creep, so there's never a dull moment.

Not Great

There is not much to this book. There is no character development or even story line development really. The entire book is just the main character figuring out how to level himself up. Besides that the narrator keeps pronouncing miscellaneous as "misk-ill-aneous". You would think that's not such a big deal but miscellaneous is a frequently used word in this book and it gets annoying very quickly.

Dont Bother

From redundancies to misused words, poor writing and narration make this almost unbearable. The voice actor constantly drops consonants in his speech, and lends no amount of flow to the story. Lazy writing. Repeating a specific word more than 4 times in a sentence. Unnecessary. I love the LIT RPG genre. but I couldn't even force myself to start the second book.

Very douchey whiny psychopath protagonist.

I could not get through it all. Probably one of the worst main characters i've ever witnessed. Made worse by the reader using a whiny preteen voice for him. And it just goes downhill from there.

Poor Character Writing

I had to stop listening after around 10 hours. The main character has no personal development after 2 years in the story. Almost every scene the main character does something that a 12 year old would think "this would make a badass moment".

It seems like there is a good and evil side and the main character is supposed to be "good" in his mind but is really just a bully. The story would have been a lot more interesting if he started out good and them due to the rampant corruption of the world turn "evil" by other people's standards only to realize he is the evil he set out to destroy.

This is also the first time I've heard someone pronounce miscellaneous as misk-ellaneous.

He made an excuse why his MC was not OP

I have been struggling to finish this book from the very first book. The thing that broke the camel's back for me. it was when the author had to make an excuse. For why his character wasn't overpowered in his universe. I'm fine with overpowered characters but when you feel the need to defend your character. that should be a sign that there's something wrong with your writing.

Can't finish. Just awful.

The MC is a empathy-less stat climber who interfaces with a world of window dressing and cardboard cut-outs. There is no growth or risk or anything of interest besides the guy getting more and more powerful by doing nothing particularly hard. Skip this.

there isn't even a bad guy

I cannot believe this could rate highly for anyone without being paid. it is so bad .

it is way below top tier but there is so much and it is so basic. It's not quite "help you get to sleep" material for me but it was still good to fill the silence.

but it is genuinly the worst thing out of 107 lit rpgs I have listened too and is very alarming in how bad it is.

there are no interesting characters, original ideas or even really much of a story aim. but there is a system with the one almost original idea of integrating the most tedious game of all games into it (idle games). Though there are probably lit rpgs with like "downloading" times for skills.

Oh my word such a load of tepid vomit

This book is 'One punch man without the personality, irony or an interesting support cast'. It is lazy writing with almost identical chapters repeating itself over and over. This is a hero story which never takes off there is no questioning on the why or how, no characters to allow yourself to invest in. It's just a dull acceptance with how things are through the eyes of an uninteresting sociopath as he spends book one killing without concern or risk and book two doing the same again but with a weak backstory. I never made it to the third book.
The performance was hindered by the lack of the narrator having anything to really talk about apart from maths and reading lists. The book goes into great detail on maths divided by time to make this skill one decimal more powerful because ...... Oh MY WORD make it stop, make it stop. Just no! this series is not worth the pain, run child run from here and don't look back.

Worst narration ever

Narrator is monotone, all characters sound the same and has little inflection. The leveling system is confusing to keep track of and story so far is slow.

Terrible.

Honestly one of the worst books I've ever read. I think I got like 25 hours into it, and not a single time, did I feel a sense of real danger or thrill.. The main character just seem to one-punch everything in sight, and regularly goes out and kills "252,096" bears or what ever creatures over the span of years.. I mean.. what the fuck? It might be the idle system I'm not familiar with, but it was incredibly disconnected in terms of emotions and and I felt overall disconnected to any of the surrounding characters or even the main character... Can't recommend at all.

a Great cultivation litrpg.

overall likeable characters and a good story, very relaxing to listen to. the only criticism I have is that the plot can feel a little to idle, I often missed a little thrill and excitement, you want to feel the main characters struggle to sympathise with him. the 4th part of this collection had elements of this and I found myself going from relaxed listening to excited listening.

avoid

although the narrator is great, I'm afraid the writing is poor, monotonous, inspired and frankly boring. Avoid if at all possible.

Bland story

Of a boring overpowered mc who is stupid then crazy then evil then mass killer then repeat. Over describes stupid stuff like everytime someone salutes it's all listed as a Marshall artist salute.

Rough

Be prepared is the best advice approaching this one. Made it through a couple hours, but it is real rough. Like really really rough.. I've seen from the reviews that this series apparently gets better as it goes, so I may return to this one and update this review.. but right now, just could not finish.
