Story
As no sensible person would make a long road trip without first consulting a map, so the person intent upon gaining Heaven should first resort to a competent guide to reach that Goal of all goals. And no better guide to Heaven exists than An Introduction to the Devout Life by St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622), Doctor of the Church. It is at once easy to listen, being laid out in short sections, yet thorough, authoritative, reliable, kind and gentle - a mirror of its author. It is an audiobook, moreover, for all, because all are called to the devout life.

Story
This classic work from Thomas à Kempis, author of The Imitation of Christ, is now available in English for the first time. It is a simple truth that, without the virtue of humility, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. It simply cannot be done. Just as pride is the root and source of all sin, so is humility, the foundational virtue in which all other virtues must be grounded if they are to bear fruit. Humility is the heartbeat of the saints. It is the virtue that conforms us most closely to Christ.

Story
Humility is the key to all the virtues. It’s the necessary foundation for growth in all the others. If we do not know ourselves, if we cannot see our flaws and strengths (but especially our flaws), clearly, how can we grow in virtue? How can we begin to make ourselves less and God more? Indeed, in our age of social media where it’s a constant race to appear the best, to put up a front, to show others a false image (and to show ourselves a false image), cultivating humility is, perhaps, more important now than ever.

Story
The way to perfection is simple - to unite one’s will with God’s, putting into action the prayer “Thy will be done". In this precious short work, Uniformity with God's Will, St. Alphonsus Liguori explains the importance of conforming one’s will to God’s and how to do so; how God is glorified by our resignation to his will even more than by our acts; how to gain peace of mind and serenity by trusting in God, accepting what he wills for our lives, and following his commands.

The Story of a Soul conveys St. Therese of Lisieux's "Little Way" of spiritual childhood - her "elevator" to Heaven, as she called it. This method was approved by Pope Pius XI as a way for all to grow in holiness through unfailing confidence and childlike delight in God's merciful love. Again and again in this audiobook, St. Therese shows us how her "Little Way" of love and trust comes straight from Sacred Scripture.

Story
Jean Pierre de Caussade's accounts in this work present the case that the present moment is a sacrament from God and that self-abandonment to it, and its needs, is a holy state. In the theological climate of France at the time, this belief was considered close to Quietist heresy. In fact, because of this fear, the work was kept unpublished until 1861.

Story
It has been said that this work by Henry Scougal was "almost universally praised by the leaders of the Great Awakening". It is a piece of literature that has been used by God to influence the souls of men for the glory of Christ. Regardless of the times we live in, the great works of the men of God of old are still applicable today. In an age of lukewarm believers, we need the fire of God to burn us afresh and give us a clear vision of his holy will.

Writing in obedience to the requests of two of her superiors, the humble 16th century Spanish sister protests "...for the love of God, let me get on with my spinning and go to choir...like the other sisters...I am not meant for writing; I have neither the health nor the wits for it."

Saint Augustine's contributions to Christian theology are second to no other post-apostolic author in the whole sweep of church history. Yet along side his doctrinal treatises, Augustine tells a story of his life devoted to Christ as his only satisfaction. The Confessions is at once the autobiographical account of Augustine's life of Christian faith and at the same time a compelling theology of Christian spirituality for everyone.

Story
Of all things Catholic, there is nothing that is so familiar as the Mass. With its unchanging prayers, the Mass fits Catholics like their favorite clothes. Yet most Catholics sitting in the pews on Sundays fail to see the powerful supernatural drama that enfolds them. Pope John Paul II described the Mass as "Heaven on Earth," explaining that what "we celebrate on Earth is a mysterious participation in the heavenly liturgy."

Publisher's Summary
Thomas À Kempis' collection of meditative writings from the Brethren of the Common Life is the most widely read book in the world after the Bible. The reflective devotions have been a heartening friend to great men such as Thomas More, St. Ignatius Loyola, Thomas Merton, Pope John Paul I, and John Wesley. Learning to live like Jesus is the central task that À Kempis explores in this classic devotional. "The religious who concerns himself intently and devoutly with our Lord's most holy life and passion will find there an abundance of all things useful and necessary for him. He need not seek for anything better than Jesus." This book provides comfort and counsel to every person who seeks to live a more connected and whole life.

The reader here speaks in a very unnatural tone and is very difficult to follow. statements and questions sound the same, and sentences have pauses every few words when there should be no pauses. I found myself daydreaming and rewinding often, due to the nature of the tone

Whispersync with kindle version
There are MANY versions of this book on Amazon and hear on Audible. This is the only version I could find that allowed the whispersync connection with amazon. So it is the Dover thrift edition on Amazon and the audio narrated by pj Ocklan. I that think it is incredibly helpful to be able to go between the audio book and the kindle book. This is not a book you will only read once. It is more of a devotional that you can fruitfully read over and over again. So have the ability to switch between audio and print is priceless.

Excellent!
There should be two forms of education for children that are both provided free of cost to the student, one the current outdated system of educating and two the new way which includes the principles in this book so people are not sent to the slaughterhouse after high school for everyone to profit from and so we can truly actualize a more productive and prosperous tomorrow and ensure our national security is not destroyed from within by being in a perpetual state where no one can see above the triabalozed lower levels of consciousnesses which are like dog collars aka: nooses hanging from trees where no true change and reforms are possible which is truly strangling the oxygen from a nation so desperately wanting but is kept in a denier state from being able to actualize any massive changes, but only the illusion of some progress. Instead of wearing the dog collars they ought to be putting their stupid on a dog collar to keep it under control and focus on making a difference instead of taking an ax to knock down all the good that is trying to be accomplished. We have enemies with ties and shirts on. We are all awakening to this form of terrorism upon us, and love and good will prevail, no matter what!
