Publisher's Summary
It's 1969, and holed up in a grimy tenement building in New York's Lower East Side is a travelling psychic who claims to be able to tell anyone the date they will die. Four siblings, too young for what they are about to hear, sneak out to hear their fortunes.
We then follow the intertwined paths the siblings take over the course of five decades and, in particular, how they choose to live with the supposed knowledge the fortune-teller gave them that day.
This is a story about life, mortality and the choices we make: is it better to live a long and cautious life or to burn brightly, but for the shortest time?

Good concept, but should have been better executed
The last two stories were just plain depressing. The first two stories were interesting. It all became too mundane and sad, and the last story really disturbed me as it's about cruel testing on primates, which is no doubt absolutely accurate. So much more could have been done with this great idea of a storyline to make this book shine. Though it was very well written, I did not enjoy the book, and it left me with just sadness about 4 lives wasted.

Round the houses
I really struggled with this book. story felt all over the place. I was really interested in what would happen to each person, but lost the will to listen as the story just seemed to be flat and boring.

Lovely listen
I really enjoyed this book. I loved all the characters and enjoyed their stories , hoped & wished for different outcomes. I’d love to read / listen more from Chloe Benjamin.

Long!
If I had read this physically, I doubt I would have carried on. Empty... and too detailed without purpose to be meaningful.

Unsure
So I must start this with the fact that I bought this completely by accident. I had thought it was something else.
It is written beautifully and I like the four different stories that are broken down within the chapters.
Sadly by the end I was a little bored and just wanting it to finish.
Not for me but I know that a lot of people will find joy in the words within.

Disappointed and didn't get further than chapter 4
I gave up this book at chapter 4 due to the graphic descriptions of sex which I wasn't expecting. I'd liked the idea of the book but have no desire to listen to that while cooking dinner!

Good listen
picked this from the 2 for 1 offer and really enjoyed it, not what I would usually go for but an easy listen with a decent storyline.

As most reviews would suggest
Great concept and makes for an interesting book club discussion but as most reviews suggest it doesn't go as deep into the concept of knowing your death day as I would have liked. All round, 4/5 glad to have read but probably unlikely to read again

A really well told story
Not exactly my type of book and pretty far from the genre that I usually read but reading it for a book club I have recently joined and I enjoyed it immensely. The characters are told through thoughtful eyes. They are as complete as a book of this type needs them to be. I love how grounded the author has made each and every character and how relatable they are. I definitely recommend reading it even if it's not up your alley.

Avoid
Couldn't get past the gay porn literature, which I found distasteful. I wouldn't recommend this book.
