Publisher's Summary
FBI special agent Victoria Santos is tracking a string of gruesome murders from New York to San Francisco, Miami to Oregon. Meanwhile, Pulitzer Prize-winning Miami Tribune reporter Mike Posten receives a call from a mysterious stranger who claims his mind works so much like the killer's that he can actually predict the next attack: time, place, victim.
When the predictions prove true, Mike and Victoria must join forces to find out if this eerie caller is the real psychopath. Putting themselves in the line of fire, they are about to come face-to-face with the reason why their man kills without a conscience - and why it may be impossible to stop him.

WOW!!! This is a Really Suspenseful book!!!
Any additional comments?
I absolutely loved this book and George Guidall did such a fantastic job narrating. This is a globe trotting serial killer with a very specific agenda. Then there is an informant, he wants money. Is the informant and the killer one in the same? You will not find out the answer to this question until more then 1/2 way through this book.
This is the second time Mike Posten (the journalist) has had an anonymous informant on a BIG story. The FBI agent Victoria Santos wonders if Mike knows the person but agrees to supply federal money to keep the informant communicating. When somebody at the paper leaks that Mike is paying an informant his reputation is trashed and he is suspended. But Mike keeps on because he has a secret of his own.
I have never read/listened to anything by James Grippando before but will certainly be catching up on his other books.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

A creepy story worth the listen if you like creepy
Given the choice, I'd prefer to have my tongue cut out after death if it had to go. Based on a warped childhood shared to some degree by two truly mentally unhealthy men, this is a strange story with twists and turns. And more than one "euuuuu" on my part.
And just how many voices does George Guidall have? I had to listen once I saw he was the narrator, just wasn't prepared for a bit of a different sound. But as always, Guidall delivers.
I've been a Grippando fan for years, back to his corporate intrigue books but somehow lost him along the way. Now that I've re-discovered him on Audible, I'll do catch up.

multiple povs
This story works on almost every level, at times horrifying at others funny in a bad way . . . the multiple perspectives don't diminish the tension or the capacity for surprise, and the personal stories of the characters don't descend into romance-novel bathos. Lots of good movement and action.

GREAT READ and GREAT WRITE
What did you love best about The Informant?
I was endlessly searching for a good crime author read by Guidell. I am amazed at this story. The suspense was great and the story line ever changing but with nurtured sequence. The story kept me on my toes.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Oh yes. The narration and the writing was wonderful. The suspense was just right.
Which scene was your favorite?
oh that is so hard to say . I enjoyed all of it.

Superb mystery/suspense novel!
Thanks to Audible listener Shelley for recommending this novel. If you like the mystery/thriller genres, you should follow her. (I have never met or communicated with Shelley. It is just that she is without doubt the best reviewer of thrillers at Audible.) Following me may not be a good idea because I listen to books at 2X recorded speed, listen up to 12 hours daily, and write very frequent reviews. Also, I listen to a much broader range of genres.
Informant is different from any book I have listened to. Mystery/uncertainty and intense suspense best describe it. It is a serial murder mystery, but the victims apparently have nothing in common making the job of law enforcement very complex. The protagonists are a Miami newspaper reporter and an FBI agent. Are there one or two antagonists? That is one of the central dilemmas in the novel.
