Publisher's Summary

Letty Davenport, the brilliant and tenacious adopted daughter of Lucas Davenport, takes the investigative reins in the newest thriller from number one best-selling author John Sandford.

By age 24, Letty Davenport has seen more action and uncovered more secrets than many law enforcement professionals. Now a recent Stanford grad with a master’s in economics, she’s restless and bored in a desk job for US Senator Colles. Letty’s ready to quit, but her skills have impressed Colles, and he offers her a carrot: feet-on-the-ground investigative work, in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security.

Several oil companies in Texas have reported thefts of crude, Colles tells her. He isn’t so much concerned with the oil as he is with the money: Who is selling the oil, and what are they doing with the profits? Rumor has it that a fairly ugly militia group - led by a woman known only as Lorelai - might be involved. Colles wants to know if the money is going to them, and if so, what they’re planning.

Letty is partnered with a DHS investigator, John Kaiser, and they head to Texas. When the case quickly turns deadly, they know they’re on the track of something bigger. Lorelai and her group have set in motion an explosive plan...and the clock is ticking down.

Just….NO

I’ve been a fan of the Lucas Davenport series but this branch of the family tree needs to be pruned. I suppose it’s okay for the protagonist to be the smartest person in the room, but in every room, working in tandem with a tier one operator? Unbelievable characters, ankle deep in an unbelievable situation.

Doesn’t Ring True

Boring storyline and plot. Unbelievable. Annoying that Letty mentioned Lucas every chance she could.. As if Lucas’ credentials were her own. Wished she had worked with Lucas or Virgil. And why didn’t Lucas put her in touch with his friend Kidd to help with the computer research? And no way would Lucas not turn up toward the end of the book. No way. Overall the book was kinda good.

Letty's a Letdown!

John Sanford needs to hang it up. His novels just keep getting worse and worse! He preaches about gun control, all the while making a fortune glorifying gun violence. He's a lot like recent Stephen King...out of touch! Sanford is off on another political rant... Right wing Republicans are his victims this time. Liberial Democrats wit guns and murder in their hearts are AOK. Can we not just have early Prey series type novels back!!! This may be my last Sanford novel it's terrible!

Could it have been more political?

Performance was wonderful. Ferrone does a great job, as always.
But I was so done with the references to January 6th.
The author might want to review the facts of the 6th vs. what he thinks happened. Starting with the number of weapons found and the number killed.

Meh

Excited for a new John Sandford novel. Sigh. This was not it. Get it at the library and save a credit.

Good addition to Sandford’s world

Engaging story, if a bit slow moving at times when the protagonist isn’t featured. Ferrone gives his usual skilled narration, but I question the decision to not choose a female narrator for this new series. Definitely hoping that the groundwork laid in this book is built upon.

John, you're letting your liberal panties show.

The last couple of books of yours have definitely been showing your political leanings.

liberal overtones take away from the story

John Sanford has embraced the liberal open border mantra and written a story about it. His story seems to subtly vilify the GOP wanting following immigration policy, while he glorifies illegal entry by caravans and confuses illegal entry with regular immigration. But I’m sure John Sandford is well protected in his multimillion dollar home. Author’s are losing their readership because of nonsensical political tirades about their socialist tendencies. His older books are ten times better. Before the overt left wing extremism started showing through.
