Publisher's Summary

The only man who can keep her safe is her boss’ gorgeous brother.

Museum curator Haven McKinney has sworn off men. All of them. Totally. She’s recently escaped a bad ex and started a new life for herself in San Francisco. She loves her job at the Hutton Museum, likes her new boss, and has made best friends with his feisty sister. Haven’s also desperately trying not to notice their brother: hotshot investigator Rhys Norcross. And she’s really trying not to notice his muscular body, sexy tattoos, and charming smile.

Nope, Rhys is off limits. But then Haven finds herself in the middle of a deadly situation....

Investigator Rhys Norcross is good at finding his targets. After leaving an elite military team, he thrives on his job at his brother’s security firm, Norcross Security. He’s had his eye on smart, sexy Haven for a while, but the pretty curator with her eyes full of secrets is proving far harder to chase down than he anticipated.

Luckily, Rhys never, ever gives up.

When thieves target the museum and steal a multi-million-dollar painting in a daring theft, Haven finds herself right in the middle of a deadly situation. With the painting gone and Haven in danger, Rhys vows to do whatever it takes to keep her safe, and Haven finds herself risking the one thing she was trying so hard to protect — her heart.

Note to listeners: This is a sexy, fast-paced romance with a heroine in danger who’s sworn off men (and gets kidnapped…a lot) and a hot, tattooed former military hero (who looks fine in a suit and rolls his sleeves up showing off his ink).

Not bad ...

But I didn’t finish it. When Haven got kidnapped again because she did another ridiculous and careless thing. I turned off the audio. Eye roll. Lol. It really wasn’t all bad it was just over done with the strong yet still a damsel in distress that didn’t use her common sense and kept getting into dumb situations Then the super hot badass hero to save the day and claim his woman. Thumps rippled chest say mine displays stamina and masculinity ... more eye rolling. It was well performed Bloom & Hamilton are both awesome and it wasn’t badly written just to vapid for my taste.

Anna Hackett NEVER disappoints. Suspense, action, steamy romance with Great narration and as someone with 10,000 audiobooks believe me I know great narration. Thanks again Ms Hackett for hours of forgetting about COVID for awhile.

Amazing

The story had me hooked from the beginning till the end! Interesting characters, the heroine for once didn’t pine and cry all the time. Only thing, it was kind of weird hearing the male narrator doing female voices. All in all if you want some excitement and steamy romance this is for you

Couldn't finish.

Even though I love Teddy Hamilton, this story was so irritating, I had to stop listening. Not a good story line. Repetitive. Gaaah!!! 😖

Amazing Romantic Suspense!

This was my first Anna Hackett's book, and definitely won't be my last. This is the first book in the Norcross Series, a captivating Romantic Suspense. Haven and Rhys's story is fast paced, funny, suspenseful, and action packed. The characters are wonderful. Haven is independent, strong, and determined. Rhys is handsome, sexy, and protective. Rhys's siblings, Vandor, Easton, and Gia, are wonderful supporting characters, and I can't wait to know more about them. Stella Bloom and Teddy Hamilton did a fantastic job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Troubleshooter, Gia and Saxon's story.

Good story with great narrators

I enjoyed this book. It was well written and I loved meeting all the Norcross brothers. Haven was a strong-willed woman which I appreciate so much. She left an abusive relationship at first hit. Any time was in trouble, she tried to save herself and not just depend on a man.

Rhys is former military alpha who wants to protect Haven. But he definitely has a soft spot for her. The gooey center as I call it often.

I did listen to this audiobook. Teddy Hamilton was great, per the norm. Stella Bloom is wonderful and she has a great make voice. The only thing I didn’t like was the story is in third person POV.

Guilty pleasure

This series is my guilty pleasure. Ridiculously hot. and skilled protective alpha males falling for women who are not shrinking violets, but still find themselves in need of some help. I am currently re-listening to the series and I would describe it as taking a Hollywood action movie infused with the essence of Cosmo and GQ magazines, add explicit sex scenes, shake like a martini and out comes this romantic suspense series.

Disappointing

The bones of the story were decent. A good book could’ve been written around the plot. Unfortunately, the two main characters were flat and not too engaging.

The female protagonist, Haven, is a complete twit. She wasn’t smart and was stubborn in stupid ways. The “I’ve sworn off men” bit was never believable. She sounded like a petulant teenager - although part of that could have been Stella Bloom’s narration. Ms Bloom made her sound high-pitched & whiny.

And, there was no understanding why Rhys was drawn to her (besides liking her backside). He just was. Head scratcher for me.

There is a good deal of sex, so you know there is physical attraction, but that’s it. Why does Haven “quieten” Rhys’ mind? Who knows.

Ms Bloom’s narration, at least for Haven, made me cringe. Mr Hamilton was fine.

I contemplated giving this series a second shot. The side characters in this first installment (who will go on to be main characters in subsequent installments), appeared more interesting than Haven & Rhys. But, I didn’t think I could take more supposedly successful adult women behaving like hormonal teenagers, or at least sounding like them.

Repetitive

How many times can one person be kidnapped in one storyline. How many times can you rewrite the same thing over again.

A refreshing suspense

It's so nice to have a heroine with a back bone!

This is a fast paced book, that keeps on track throughout. Both main and secondary characters were well built and described. I look forward to hearing more of this series!

I enjoyed the narration, however, Stella's narration was a little breathy and once I heard it, I couldn't unhear it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Love this new series!!

I love any new series by Anna Hackett and this is a great start to a new series. We first got a sense of the Norcross team in the Team 52 series (so good, read those too!) and the team is really awesome. I loved the characters, Rhys and Haven as well as Rhy's brothers and sister. They were really cool overall and I'm excited to read Gia's story (the Norcross sister)- she seems really tough.

I have to say that Haven had some really great parts and I loved to see her coming to her own towards the end but I did think that she was a weaker heroine than some of Anna Hackett's other heroines (I'm spoiled because Anna Hackett writes the best heroines- tough and smart).

Overall though, I can't wait to continue to get more entrenched in this world!

i first read the ebook and then listened to the audiobook. Teddy Hamilton is perfect for the Norcross men. (of course, he is one of my favorite narrators so well, I love most things he's in). His ability to modulate his voice and his tough slightly gravelly voice is really just great for this series. Stella Bloom is also amazing- She also is able to play many characters easily and I really loved the narration for this great start to the series.

Not a typical Hackett book !

Bloom and Hamilton dose another brilliant job !

If you want pornography with a thin storyline this might be something for you ?
I think Hackett has been influenced by Corona to be this horny !!!
I have 16 Hackett books and they all have some sex scenes, they have always been placed so they were easy to skip, if you wanted to get on with the story but not in this book.
If you want a good story don’t waste your money !!!

Anna does it again.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the first book in Anna's steamy new series with outstanding narration by Teddy and Stella.

They have done an excellent job getting under the skin of the men and women of Norcross Security.

The action is fast paced and the men hot enough to melt a Kindle. I look forward to listening to the next book and learning what Anna has in store for her heroes.

Well done Anna you have proved yet again why you are one of my favourite authors. Keep up the good work.

Damn it was entertaining!

It wasn’t the book of the year, but damn it was entertaining! Especially as an audiobook, as both narrators are extremely talented and bring life to the characters. I loved it.

The suspense part of the story was gripping, with multiple twists and turns. I’d have liked to see more about the investigation–since it’s in the title–but I was never bored. There’s a lot of action and, for once, it doesn’t come only from the male characters.

Haven, even as a typical damsel in distress, isn’t weak. She has a tremendous amount of courage–she’s scared but still tries to save other people, by any way she can. That makes the little reverse power play with alpha male Rhys Norcross even sexier.

Here we have a regular instalove story. The connection between Haven and Rhys is mostly depicted through the characters’ feelings. I didn’t see it. But when they actually do the deed, oh my, what a chemistry! It’s extra swoony and steamy.

As the first book in the series, there may have been a bit too much time dedicated to the introduction of future characters who don’t have much to do here. And I’d have liked for Haven’s relationship with Haven to be a bit more explicit–I didn’t really see a strong bond between two alleged best friends. But I still can’t wait to read or to listen to about the rest of the Norcross family.

Fantastic Story & Narration🎧 A Captivating Ride!

I enjoyed this book immensely, it is a great, action packed romantic suspense. The story drew me right in, grabbing my attention and captivating it straight to the end. The characters are nicely developed, easy to like and connect with. After catching her ex with another woman Haven McKinney left Miami and her life behind. Getting away as far from him as possible she moved to west coast. She landed a dream job, a curator in a privately owned museum. She loves her boss Easton Norcross and has become good friends with his sister became good friends with her bosses sister, Gia. Easton also has two brothers, they are all badasses and former military. Vander owns Norcross Security and Investigations and Rhys works there as well. Haven thought Vander was the scary brother but Rhys scared her in other ways, she is attracted to him but he is a player and a heartbreaker and off limits because he is her best friends brother. And she has sworn off men. Rhys is attracted to Haven and notices her every time she is in the room. He was furious when he saw how roughed up she was by the art thieves, I loved how protective he got with her. Haven has a feistiness about her, she is her own person and not one to be told what to do. So while Norcross Security investigates the theft she does a little investigating herself, which winds up getting her in more trouble. She sure had a knack for both getting into trouble and attracting it. This fast paced story with interesting storylines that are cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns, action, thrilling suspense, heartfelt and emotional moments and a hot romance. Anna Hackett, thank you for this great story, I am looking forward to what comes next in this series.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Stella Bloom and Teddy Hamilton were perfect cast to bring these characters to life. They did an awesome job portraying the characters, humanizing them, giving each their own voice and personality, as well as heart and attitude. Stella Bloom’s take on Haven was spot on, she took the role and made it her own. Teddy Hamilton did the same with Rhys. Both were amazing with the secondary characters as well. They are talented narrators and entertaining storytellers, it is always a pleasure to listen to their work. Thank you for another awesome listen🎧

kidnapping extraordinaire

how many times does a girl need to be kidnapped, my goodness this was fast paced and kept you on your toes.
this novel had everything it was hot and steamy had some angst and of course lots of alpha men.
I have listened to plenty of Anna Hacketts novels however I prefer her sci fi series as this contemporary book seemed to go on a bit loo long .
Stella did a good job of narrating Haven however I have listened to a lot of Solo books with Stella being the narrator and I think I need a rest so we'll try Anna's sci-fi series again and as for teddy he always does a good voice

narrators and story line

I enjoyed the story as always, but I qSnt the biggest fan of teddy narrating his voices for both but especially the female character was annoying and distracting from enjoying the story.
I wish they would narrate their own male and female character and not both when it was the chapter.
but overall similar expected story line but was good.
