Publisher's Summary

The Wraith Kings saga continues.

The demonic horde that threatened to devour the world has been defeated, but at great cost.

Plagued by guilt and nightmares, Serovek Pangion sets out to deliver the soulless body of the monk Megiddo to the heretical Jeden Order for safekeeping. Accompanying him is sha-Anhuset, the Kai woman he admires and desires most - a woman barely tolerant of him.

Devoted to her regent, Anhuset reluctantly agrees to act as a Kai ambassador on the trip, even though the bold margrave known as the Beladine Stallion gets under her skin like no other, and Anhuset fears he'll worm his way into her armored heart as well.

But guilt and unwelcome attraction are the least of their problems. The demons thought vanquished are stirring again, and a warlord with blood-soaked ambition turns a journey of compassion into a fight for survival. When the Beladine king brands Serovek a traitor, Anhuset must choose between sacrificing the life of a man she's grown to love and abandoning lifelong fealty to the Kai people.

A tale of loyalty and acceptance.

BETTER THAN I REMEMBERED!

I am so happy this story came out as an audiobook!

I like to revisit stories I like, which isn’t as easy when you have to read it.

I waited for this story since I first read and listened to Radiance, and it didn’t disappoint when it 1st came out. I hadn’t had a chance to re-read it, so listening to it was a very nice treat. It was better the second time around, and Gabrielle Baker did a wonderful job narrating it.

Soon I‘ll do another listen to all Grace Draven’s audiobooks.

This was a wonderful addition to the series, and I can’t wait for the other ones to come out. In the meantime I highly recommend this audiobook with the long awaited story of Serovek and Anhuset wonderfully narrated by Gabrielle Baker.

As Fantastic as the rest of the series

What sets Grace Draven’s books apart for me is the development of each character in stark contrast and those contrasts become the strength of the couple. She’s amazing at creating a fantastic lore and species that are as delightful to read as they are distinct.
The romance is slow build which I love because we truly see the slow shifting of reluctance. It feels realistic for these characters. And the actually coming together is well… everything that it was meant to be lol
I will always preorder her books and know that they will deliver. such a fan and honestly can’t speak higher of any series thus far.

Needing more…

Amazing story. Non-traditional heroine; kept me on the edge of my seat. Great writing; I don’t have a single negative thing to say about this book. However….

Spoiler:

I need to know what happens to Maguido.
Please write another book and resolve his story line.

I also need justice with that treacherous steward. Argghhh….so frustrating.

Another beautiful book from a wonderful author

It is books like these that have ruined me for lesser quality stories. I fear that if I never settled for books that weren't written at this quality, I'd read far fewer books.
This is another wonderful story from intelligent author filled with with intriguing characters and an interesting storyline. It is set in a unique world and is as exciting as it is meaningful.
Definitely one of my favorite authors.

Romance and intrigue on a funeral pilgrimage

“I wouldn’t know what to do with a ribbon”
This is first a romance, and second the opening act of a dark battle thought already won. Warrioress Anhuset was my favorite character in the duology, so I was thrilled that she and her Stallion were the stars in this story. This author excels at writing fantasy featuring alpha men and women, without resorting to the usual tropes where, no matter how strong the female, the alpha male is stronger and invariably saves the day. Anhuset is a force to be reckoned with and together they are unbeatable. This is a super slow burn, with nary a kiss until we’ll past the half, and the combustible climax ten hours into this 15 hr book. But, it’s the heart, and not the heat, that sells the story.

“A dark song is your spirit, a hymn of the broken”
The steadily building menace of the duology repeats the pacing here, with this book barely setting the stage after books 1 & 2. All but the final two hours are spent on the road fulfilling the duty of returning the body of Megiddo, the warrior monk who sacrificed everything. But, the journey is worth as much as the destination. There are shades of the Two Towers (where the dead won’t suffer the living), Gladiator
(or maybe the arena scene in Attack of the Clones with a far more fierce Amidala), and of course
Beauty and the Beast… only here Anhuset is both the beauty and the beast and I love her!

Minor quibbles:
The biggest downside for me was the minimal screen time for characters from the previous books: this book keeps the spotlight on Anhuset and Serovek. I also feel like the magic system and beast-imagery isn’t fleshed out enough. I bumped the speed up a bit, but otherwise adore the narrator. There is a very rare F bomb here or there, but I found them content-appropriate.

The minor quibbles fall before this majorly great fantasy. This book can stand alone (and there are recaps within this book), but I strongly recommend taking these in order. Besides, by the time you get through all three, the fourth book may be out. Alas, I’m afraid I’m in for a rather long wait.

So Gooooood!

Gabrielle Baker is a great voice actor and really brings the story to life. That being said I think I love Serovek and Anhuset more than I love Brishen and Ildiko! I loved every bit of this story and man did it hit me in feels. The ribbon stuff was such a poke in the heart. Anhuset is so strong and I loved that Serovek was not diminished at all by her. They really do make a great team. I was also glad we got to see the softer side to Anhuset, like seeing her examine her changing feelings toward Serovek. I also freaking loved their banter. It had me chucking all through the book. There is so much that happens in this book and I am very excited to see where the Wraith Kings end up.

wait for it

it starts slow but gets really good. it starts slow burn since Ahnuszet is really freaked out by human eyes, but once she decides she's in, there's no frustrating waffling will they won't they. this book was a surprise to me since I thought the series was over, but now I feel like we need at least one more book.

***Brilliant***

I am a huge fan of Grace Draven and i own nearly all her books except one which i will buy soon. Grace is an excellent story teller of fantasy romance. Her world building is incredible and the worlds she creates are fantastical and imaginatives. Gabrielle Baker is an amazing narrator thank u both ladies.
