Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Addison True is an old school, rollicking western adventure ride - a sweeping, epic American saga. It follows the title character, a quintessential American hero, from Addy’s arrival in Gold Rush San Francisco in 1849, age 18, to guiding a winter-trapped wagon train down the back side of the Sierra, pioneering a stagecoach route through Apache territory, getting caught in the 1855 Plains war, serving as sheriff of Leavenworth during “bloody Kansas” days, Pony Express station keeper in Nebraska territory, to the Civil War.

Susanna Wilkins will do anything to make her father's final dream come true, including trek along the path Lewis and Clark explored into the untamed wilds of the Rocky Mountains. Every mile is more crucial now that lung cancer is stealing Pa's last days faster than she can come to terms with losing him. The journey becomes harder than she ever expected, but paddling upriver through fierce rapids and fighting hungry grizzlies isn't what terrifies her the most.

I wanted to like this novel but ended up aghast at it!
In these days of political turmoil in this country, I often wonder how others come by their positions. This book provided some clues to that query. It bordered on propaganda mixed with a ridiculous parody of the old westerns my generation grew up watching. The Federal Bureau of Land Management is portrayed as a wild horse and dog killing entity that tramples individual rights. They have endless helicopters, officers, and budgets available to protect reptiles as they destroy one man's life. Even when individuals, not the entire Federal government, are exposed as the root of the problem, the heroes are the local townspeople and their local representatives (with the exception of a fighter-jet wielding general). Everything turns out wonderfully for the "good guys" with every mistake forgiven by loved ones in heaven. It grew increasingly unrealistic and dangerous as the chapters unfolded. Life holds complications that can't be cured by a group chorus of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic!" It builds excessive individualism and local rights as the only entities worth trust. Anything national is evil, and one doesn't have to repent of their errors in life because they get to relive their life in the next world.
As one who loves tales of the west, horses, romance, Ireland, and heroes, I was disappointed.

Very dramatic. Very soap-operaish. Clearly should be made into a movie. Hollywood would love this!! Me? Not so much. The horrible raspy voice of the lead character is HORRIBLE! Glad I only spent $1.98.

The narrator is murdering the story!
The narration Is really bad! they miss pronounce towns and bring in southern drawll voices. I live in the northern plains. I know how people here speak and live. The author wasted his money on this narrator.
sad that it so degrades the story and gives people from other areas a wrong view of the people of eastern Montana.

FANTASTIC! 5 Stars all the way!
I listened to the audio version of this book.
This book was simply incredible. Beautiful! It made me feel so much. Compassion, anger, regret and love are just a few of the feelings that overtook me as I read this book. The narration by Greg Patmore was perfect!
The story is told from the standpoint of an old cowboy who is well into the last years of his life. He's gruff, he's in pain and he's pretty much alone. He's already lost so much in his life, but there are new threats that could take away all that he still holds dear. He gets help from unexpected sources--there are always more who care about us than we think. I challenge you not to shed a tear as you read this book.
I was given a complimentary copy of this audio book. All thoughts are my own.

Not what I thought it would be
I was expecting an Irish tale but to my dismay, it wasn't. The narrator did a wonderful job on the cowboy's voice. It reminded me of Clint Eastwood. It was a good story and I enjoyed it and was rooting for the hero all the way through.

missed the mark
story reads like a harlaquin romance that thinly covers the authors intention to pit ordinary citizens against the government. also being born and raised in Montana the stereo types are obvious. it was additionally offensive to hear the many miss pronounced names of our towns and common words. a story about Montana pride and independence should at least be read by someone who has some experience in the area.

I tried to give the narrator a chance
I don’t know if this was a low budget book or what, but even the mistakes made while narrating were left in the final cut. Words were pronounced incorrectly and the voices used for characters were … odd. I only stuck with it because my husband read the book on his kindle and thought I would enjoy this story. I feel for the author. His story is good and the narrator made it so dang hard to listen until the end.
