In fact, How to Get Sh*t Done will teach you how to zero in on the three areas of your life where you want to excel, and then it will show you how to offload, outsource, or just stop giving a damn about the rest. In How to Get Sh*t Done she shows how even the most perfectionistic among us can tap in to our inner free spirit and learn to feel like badasses rather than drudges.

Story
The relentless pursuit of high self-esteem has become a virtual religion - and a tyrannical one at that. Our ultracompetitive culture tells us we need to be constantly above average to feel good about ourselves, but there is always someone more attractive, successful, or intelligent than we are. And even when we do manage to grab hold of high self-esteem for a brief moment, we can't seem to keep it. Our sense of self-worth goes up and down like a ping-pong ball, rising and falling in lockstep with our latest success or failure.

By forcing us to apply a more selective criteria for what is Essential, the disciplined pursuit of less empowers us to reclaim control of our own choices about where to spend our precious time and energy - instead of giving others the implicit permission to choose for us. Essentialism is not one more thing - it’s a whole new way of doing everything. It’s about doing less, but better, in every area of our lives. Essentialism is a movement whose time has come.

In Stop Missing Your Life, mindfulness teacher Cory Muscara takes us on a journey into the heart of what is required for real change, growth, and happiness. He exposes how the phrase "be present" has become little more than a platitude, imbued with the misguided message to be present just for the sake of being present, and reveals how to achieve true Presence: a quality of being that is unmistakably attractive about a person, and one that only comes when we've peeled back the layers of guarding that prevent us from being our full, honest, and integrated selves in the world.

Story
As high achievers, we’ve been conditioned to believe that the path to success is paved with relentless work. That if we want to overachieve, we have to overexert, overthink, and overdo. That if we aren’t perpetually exhausted, we’re not doing enough. But lately, working hard is more exhausting than ever. And the more depleted we get, the more effort it takes to make progress. Stuck in an endless loop of “Zoom, eat, sleep, repeat”, we’re often working twice as hard to achieve half as much.

Publisher's Summary
"This book is two things. It’s an eye-opener to the fact that we don’t have to do a million things to be productive (or successful). And it’s a coach that helps us trim the fat, get real with our purpose, and start living more intentionally." (Goop)
"Dalton helps listeners by teaching us to focus on the most important things and create our own operating systems that are exclusive to our lives as individuals. By doing this, we can simplify and make life even better." (San Francisco Book Review)
Dalton’s ground-up approach to productivity teaches listeners to identify their real priorities and, in doing so, cut their massive to-do lists down to size by learning to say no to the tasks that pull them away from their North Star-Grateful
Overwhelmed. Do you wake up in the morning already feeling behind? Does the pressure of keeping it all together make you feel anxious and irritable?
Tanya Dalton, CEO and productivity expert, offers you a liberating shift in perspective: Feeling overwhelmed isn't the result of having too much to do - it's from not knowing where to start.
Doing less might seem counterintuitive, but doing less is more productive, because you’re concentrating on the work you actually want to be doing. Through this book, you can learn how to:
- Identify what is important to you and clarify your priorities.
- Develop ways to streamline your specific workflow.
- Discover your purpose.
Named Top 10 Business Book of the Year by Fortune magazine, The Joy of Missing Out is a legitimate action plan for change. Once you reject the pressure to do more, something amazing happens: You discover you can finally live a guilt-free, abundant life.

Have JOMO not FOMO!
I’m a magician... you know a wife, mom, full-time employee, daughter, friend, school and church volunteer, neighbor, and in charge of morning carpool... just a few things. Not much. Tonya describes me over and over again in her book, The Joy of Missing Out: Live More by Doing Less.
Because of her, I am now a recovering To Do List junkie. Before reading this book the only way I felt like I was truly accomplishing anything was by crossing off a task on my list. I'm one of those people who would add things that I already completed just because it made me feel better about my day. Now I focus on my priorities vs my to dos. Just one of the many game changers I took away.
This book was EXACTLY what I needed at this point in my life. It was real and forced me to look at my week (my 168 hours) differently. Tonya didn't just tell me what I needed to do though, she gave me the tools to work through how to make those changes. Day-by-day I'm implementing her suggestions. JOMO is truly a liberating shift in perspective and I highly recommend it to anyone feeling the pressure (and who isn't).
Even though I received an advance reader’s copy from Nelson Books for an honest review, I purchased the audiobook as well. Everything shared in this review are my own thoughts.

It makes me feel like less of a bad mom
When I started out as a mother I had so many aspirations for the kind of stay at home mom I would be, and let’s face it, I’m not that woman. Being a stay at home mom doesn’t bring me joy. My kids being excited to see me after a day out by myself that I earned after a week of arguments brings me joy. Time alone by myself to work on my aspirations and spend time with my friends outside of motherhood brings me joy and I’m thankful I had this book to help me realize I don’t HAVE to do it all if it doesn’t make me happy.

I would have been ok missing out on this.
The narration style was annoying. It reminded me if that teenager who makes every 3rd sentence sound like a question, even when it's a statement.
The content was ok. Focus on the couple things that matter most in your life and disregard what's not necessary. Self, Family, Work. Not new or groundbreaking.
I usually listen each audiobook at least twice, because I usually miss something.
I hate to say it, but this was a once and done for me.
I still gave it 3 stars because I'm sure there are those who may gain some helpful advice from this book.

Narration not to my liking
There were some good ideas in this book, but I couldn't handle the narrator's voice. It had a questioning, sing-song quality that grated on my nerves. Often author-narrated books don't sound good, unless the author has a background in public speaking. I will be more careful about checking out Audible's spoken samples in the future. Unfortunately, I got to the point where I couldn't handle listening for another moment, so I returned this book. Perhaps a print or Kindle version would work better for me.
