Well written, slowly unraveling
Well written story maybe a bit slowl unraveling. The narrator read a (too) fast pace. He had barely finished the last sentence and alteady the new chapter is being announced

Jorn Lier Horst slowly unravelled a 24 year old
Jorn Lier Horst, author of the Chief Inspector William Wisting series, sets his main character Wisting to slowly unravel a mysterious 24 year old disappearance and also solves an cold case faked kidnapping. All the elements are there for a great book, but perhaps let down somewhat by the narrator.

Mediocre
I love Scandinavian crime so was intrigued by this book's title. At the start of it, the intriguing plot is at first engaging but soon becomes predictable and a bit long-winded in unfolding.

Moderately OK.
This did hold my interest, but somehow I found it rather stodgy and lack lustre. I felt that the successful conclusion was reached by bumbling coincidences, not by police procedures.
The characters were nothing special, nor particularly likeable.
It was OK, but I think that this is my last by this author.

The best kind of Nordic crime novel.
A slow burner with a real human element. This is not a fast paced thriller with car chases and blazing guns, but rather a more realistic mystery with good investigation, psychology and emotion. If you’re looking for a Wallander-esque story with gritty realism then Wisting is your man.

Really enjoyable
First time I have listened to this author and narrator - I really enjoyed both. The story moved along at a good pace with lots of interesting side elements. The narration was excellent, clear with a good use of tone.

In the end, not much suspense
...in the story. One would have to say, also, that this is competently, but, somehow, not very charismatically, read by Tim McInnerny. Previous titles by this author have been read by Saul Reichlin, who is much better. Can’t quite quantify how, but listen to samples of both & see if you agree!

Where's Saul Reichlin?
I have really enjoyed all the William Wisting stories until now! I have to say that Tim McInnerny's narration was terrible at best, it thoroughly ruined The Katharina Code.
Saul Reichlin brings William Wisting to life, I'm afraid Tim McInnerny made William Wisting and all the other characters dull and down right boring. I've just cancelled my pre-order for The Cabin, The Cold Case Quartet, Book 2 until I know who the narrator will be and if it's Tim Mcinnerney, I will buy the book instead

Save 11 hours of your life and don't buy
Somehow I managed to finish it. Hour after hour went by while I waited for it to ignite but it never did. Tedious, slow, not worth waiting for what was delivered. The reveal was totally underwhelming and sad to say the narrator was very poor with the same accent used for four or five different characters. I 'll never read anything by this author again.

Another great Wisting story. A little predictable - this one comes from a different perspective, so the culprit is revealed fairly early but nice tense moments to carry things to a satisfying conclusion.

Not quite Scandi Noir more Scandi-Gris
I enjoy a number Scandi crime thrillers, Nesbo, Stieg Larssen etc but I found this to be more of a police procedural rather than a thriller.
Was it well written? Yes, but it is flat. The mysteries are not too deep or moving. Wisting is dull - no drinking issues, no psychological malaise just a good cop. I do not want to say that all fictional detectives need to have a good backstory or issues but it is necessary to help build a lightweight story like this one. This one lacks suspense.
