Painfully awful
What do you do when you start a mystery, only to find it’s the most plodding, dull, painfully slow book ever?
What I did was spend 2 hours thinking it would get better, and then skip to the end.
It didn’t get better. It continued to plod through extraneous details about characters who are unlikable, uninteresting, and tedious.
The characters themselves are the biggest issue. But I’m also giving a shout out to setting the book in Telford, arguably the least interesting city in the UK.
“Fliss” is the 1st girl to die in a slasher film, the victim you’re glad is gone because she’s so irritating. She’s the deer that freezes in the headlights. Her reactions are so ridiculous they make women everywhere look incompetent.
“Jenna” is just horrible. I was gritting my teeth, listening to her whine and complain about being called out, wishing the other shift had taken the call, fussing over her new boots in the mud… and then she realizes the victim might be her sister. Then it’s “drive faster” and “call out air support.” But when it’s someone she doesn’t know who might be in danger, she really doesn’t give a damn.
I gave it 2 hours, so that you don’t have to. I’ll never get those hours back, but at least I didn’t pay for this piece of asinine drivel.
I rarely give negative reviews. But this one is too painful not to warn other readers off of.

Narrator makes it impossible to listen
It’s probably a great story. I’m just over half way through and should be enjoying a new female led police book... but narrator’s repetitive ending tone to all sentences makes it impossible to enjoy! This is the second time I have to force myself to listen to a book because the narrator ends all sentences in an up tone as if it’s a song. It’s so annoying! The tone is usually used when something important happens but this narrator uses it on every sentence. It drives me crazy.

Decent story, worth reading
While I didn't really enjoy the story from Fliss's perspective (that type of violence disturbs me) the police procedural was quite good. I know a lot of reviews criticized the narrator, but I thought she was quite good. I've heard too many who do use that "up" infliction at the end of every sentence, but didn't notice it here. I am frequently puzzled over what must be differences between US and UK laws, as I couldn't understand how the victim's acts in clear self defense could possibly result in her being imprisoned, as was clearly stated to be a danger in this novel and frequently comes up in other books by UK authors. I would recommed this book and will try another by this author. I did not find the language to be unduly vulgar, the dog survived, and there were no unnecessary sexual scenes to distract from the story.

won't recommend
Struggled to finish. I wasn't impressed by the narration, it bordered on boring. I also wouldn't call this book a thriller more like a boring tale of a seargent b*tching and moaning about how annoying her sister is and how worried she is about her. I couldn't wait until I was done with it and I'm glad I didn't waste a credit on it.

Get past the first chapter, and you’ll listen right to the end.
After an unpromising start, narrated in a teenage-style voice, I was glad I didn’t give up on this book, as it rapidly turned into a gripping tale, if somewhat horrific in the amount of detail, and the often graphic language. Not for the delicate spirit, but a fascinating insight into a criminal mind.

Find Her Alive - Must Read
This is the second book by Diane Saxon that I have listened too so there was a spoiler alert but thoroughly enjoyed the story and narration which had a wonderful twist near the end.

A good free listen
This story was interesting enough but I got frustrated at the number of times I heard “her sister” “my sister”. It was just so repetitive throughout the whole book. Otherwise it was interesting enough. Thanks

Good value for a free listen
Formula English police detective novel, well narrated. Plot pretty translucent with perpetrator easily identifiable early on. Saxon has targeted the book at female readers and for the male reader the descriptions of new boots, make-up application issues and sister rivalry can be pretty tedious, as can be the Mills and Boon like descriptions of the love interests. Otherwise though a well written and entertaining diversion to the daily commute.

A great read!
The plot was well written from start to finish & it was easy to deduce the killer through subtle hints along the way.

Thriller
An interesting story with twists and turns. Time line gets a bit confusing. I enjoyed the writing style and the narrator was easy to listen to. I hope to enjoy more of Diane Saxon's novels.
