Publisher's Summary

Amazon number one new release in Teen Young Adult Romantic Mysteries and Thrillers.

Sixteen-year-old princess Piper Parish is a disappointment to the citizens of Capalon, a STEM-structured kingdom where innovation is valued above all. Her older sister, the queen, views Piper's tears during their parents' funeral as a weakness, not to mention her strange affinity for singing.

When Piper receives an anonymous note stating her mother is still alive and living in the enemy kingdom of Mondaria, Piper chooses to risk death and flees Capalon to prove, once and for all, that she's not just the queen's defective little sister.

Posing as a Mondarian citizen named Paris Marigold, Piper bumps into a cute black-haired boy named Ari, who encourages her to audition for the King's 100, an esteemed performance court of singers, magicians, and drummers. Piper lands a spot as a singer and dives head-first into a world of glittering dresses, girl-code, sugar, blackmail, and physical contact - all while taking direction from an evil maestro.

Under Mondarian law, Piper will be killed if her identity is revealed. But living a life without the freedom to love might actually be the most dangerous risk of all. The King's 100 is perfect for listeners who would love a mash-up of the Selection series, Cinder, and Glee!

Loved it

This was a good story. Piper Parish was a year old princess, Her parents died and her sister the Queen considered her grief a weakness. All her sister wanted was for Piper to accept her match. But after Piper receives a message stating that her mother is still alive and lives at the enemies palace in Mondaria. So Piper poses as Paris Marigold and goes to Mondaria in search of her mother. Her biggest hope is she will remain undiscovered because the punishment will mean death. Her journey to find answers is full of mystery & danger. Great story with awesome characters. Loved it

Hoping for a Book 2

I started listening to this one with my 14 year old daughter, a few hours in I decided to finish it without her because I was worried the romance was headed to more adult levels. There is some minor language (no actual f-bombs) but there are quite a few insinuations and areas where the intimacy looks like it will quickly take off -- however the author happily kept it clean and any activity behind closed doors. I would say PG13 or for the mature 14+ reader that likes romance with a touch of mystery and dystopian feel.

So, we really enjoyed the storyline with this book... It was predictable in many areas and then when you didn't expect it there would be a fun twist. The characters were fun and had good depth that really helped you connect with the story. It looks like the author is setting this up for a sequel and I would love to see where she is taking it.

The narrator did a great job and was a lot of fun to listen to. It's a personal preference thing but I liked it much better at 1.3x speed.

Great story

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I was not sure if I was going to like this in the beginning, but I am glad I gave it a chance. I love how the story evolves with the characters. I am looking forward to the rest of the story.

i loved this book and the narrator was the best.

This book was a slow start for me, but then I was hooked.. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and their love interests, I even enjoyed hating the show director. What put it over the top was when the narrator sang the lines Paris was supposed to be singing. If you enjoyed the Selection I think this book is a good match....

romeo and juliette but less toxic

disclaimer! I recieved a free read for an honest review.

story: story was a solid 4 outta 5 I love the "modern?" take on a Romeo and Juliette story my only criticism is that I wish Capalon was more fleshed out in the beginning and pipers whole story it felt rushed like we never fully got a "here's the situation and more detail about why she's doing this now" and i wish there was more cute moments between her and her *male interest* (trying to avoid too many spoilers) and that we just got a bit more development. my favorite quote was "that's alot of bear crap" and I wanted more cute banter

Narrator: she did amazing I'm super critical when it comes to female voice actors most of the ones on audible I can't stand I've litteraly gone to other platforms for some books because I couldn't find a good voice but Olivia did amazing the voices were on point, I was able to differentiate all the male voices she was giving out and loved the effects of people running in and out the crying and the singing was super cute. my only thing it's not even a criticism on her because it's like this with every audible book the standard speed of reading is painfully slow and I have to kick it up to 1.5 to be tolerable but that's an audibles direction thing and not a voice actor thing. full 5 stars for the voice acting.

Interesting?

The King's 100 by Karin Biggs and narrated by Olivia Barnes-Brett is my first book by both author and narrator. I had a rough time with this book, as things were often repeated, to the point of irritation to me. I also felt that the narration was often extremely slow and often felt like I didn't know which character was speaking.
Overall this book wasn't for me, but these are my opinions on the book.
Would I listen to this book again? no
Would I recommend this book to others? If I felt that it fits with what they are looking for, yes.
This is definitely a Young Adult or even early teen book.

Absolutely Amazing

One of the best books I’ve listened to in awhile. Royals, finding love, music, and magic... what could be better. The narrator was spot on and did a marvelous job. The switch between characters were flawless. I thought this was going to be a standalone, but the epilogue leads me to believe there is another book to come. Can’t wait.

Really good

This a fun, light and interesting YA story. It has action, mystery and romance. It has an interesting concept, and the characters are really teenagers, sometimes annoying, but mostly funny and sweet.

Olivia Barnes-Brett is an amazing narrator, really expressive and easy to understand.

Great YA sci-fi/romance crossover

The King’s 100 by Karin Biggs

Set in a world with multiple kingdoms. Capalon, seeming the most advanced in technology, is ruled by a young queen and is at loggerheads with its closest country, Mondaria, ready to go to war at the smallest of indiscretions. Piper, a sixteen-year-old princess of Capalon is convinced that her mother didn’t die in an accident and has been tipped off by an unknown source that her mother is well and being held captive by the Mondarian King. The problem is, Piper’s sister is the Queen and will not hear of it, or believe such rumours, advising Piper to ignore it and carry on her life, and even encouraging her to choose her match, to marry. Frustrated that no one is taking the news of her mother’s possible captivity seriously, Piper takes things into her own hands and escapes Capalon and journeys to the King's castle in Mondaria and becomes one of his 100, a singer to perform at events at the castle. As time goes by, Piper becomes convinced her mother is at the castle just being held out of arms reach. Whist at the castle Piper experiences so many new things including the luxury of having friends, talking to cute boys and trying the most delicious hot chocolate known to man. However, Piper needs to be careful and remember that she has a task to carry out, otherwise all might be lost. After all, she is a Capalon living in the Lion's Den.

This is a YA crossover between soft sci-fi and romance, a feel-good and fun read. That I feel YA fans will enjoy. I listened to the audio and have to say that the narrator did a fantastic job.

Amazing story - sweet and light

A very interesting dystopian/contemporary novel. I enjoyed the unique worldsetting, where the different kingdoms of Capalon and Mondaria are at war with each other and each kingdom values very different things.
The MC is a young princess, and her growth throughout the novel feels realistic and relateable - same with the relationships between all the characters. I really loved that Piper evolved so much during the novel - she learned to embrace her (very human) feelings, turning out to be great singer, and just overall coming into her self. She was feeling more as herself than she ever had before - even though she masqueraded under a false identity.

Overall a sweet and light read, recommended for anyone in need of something with a unique setting and feel-good vibes. I got caught and could hardly put it away until finished.

The narrator did an amazing job with this, every person and their different emotions are easily detected. Bravo!

Can’t wait for the next one

(Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.) I was hooked by the story within the first few chapters and finished the whole novel within a weekend. I appreciated the effort the narrator took to create distinctive and developed voices for each character particularly in the conversations between Piper and the male characters. I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment of the series.
