Publisher's Summary

Welcome to the long-awaited seventh novel of the best-selling saga by Aleron Kong.
The longest and best book ever recorded by Nick Podehl!

The Land: Founding, Book 1 of the Chaos Seeds Saga, reached number one in the Audible store in 2017!

A mesmerizing tale reminiscent of the wonder of Ready Player One and the adventure of Game of Thrones

Number one in epic fantasy, cyberpunk, and video game fantasy

In The Land: Predators, the Mist Village has harnessed its power. With core buildings, Professional fighters, and now their own Dungeon, the settlement is primed to grow into a kingdom of true power and magic. The path to power has not been without risk, however. The Mist Village has been noticed.

Evil nobles from the Kingdom of Law, bloodthirsty goblins from the Serrated Mountains, an undead lord with a penchant for human sacrifice, and fanatical kobolds from the Depths all plot the village's destruction. The predators are circling. Richter's people are horribly outnumbered by foes whose own power has been entrenched for thousands of years.

Richter and Sion need to be stronger than ever before. Luckily, they are. New skills have been learned, stronger enchantments have been wrought, and the hundreds of villagers have answered the call to adventure. The Companions do not stand alone. While many eyes have turned toward the mists, wanting to take the treasures within, the Mist Village stares back with a simple message.

Best series I've read all year!

My son introduced me to this book and I picked up the audiobook for a long work commute. The narrator is probably the best I've ever heard. The book itself is a combination of Piers anthony punny humor, world building, and a dude encountering a plethora of "oh crap" situations. I've read the series twice and don't plan on stopping. Well worth the time/cost.

Never dissatisfied or disappointed. Love it!!!

I love every book in the series, and can't wait until book 8 hits audible. Aleron Kong you are a mastermind!!!! Your books are very inspiring for and motivating to others with creative minds and for others with stories bottled up in their heads. I'm one of those people. Keep this beautiful series going!!!!! Stay blessed!!!

sooo tedious

better than the last few books in the series, but still irritatingly repetitive. juvenile humor aside, the mechanics of the book are what turns me off most. narrator is a complete superstar, though. very, very good performance.

Tedious and 2 dimensional

I tried really hard to like this book. The previous books were decent, and I was hoping the author and the main character would both grow and develop but it felt like this book regressed instead of progressing. Lets start with the good things.

The Good

1. I really like the world. It is interesting with decent worldbuilding and the author makes it fun to read about. The sheer amount of things within the world and the detail that has gone into it over the past 7 books has been great. It’s honestly one of the only reasons I continued for 7 books. I think there is a lot of potential within this world for a really interesting story.

2. The narrator, Nick Podehl, does a fantastic job voicing the different characters and making the book come to life. Krom’s brogue is fantastic to listen to. His narrations are one of the few things that allowed me to make it all the way through this book.

3. The Story: When the story is progressing and things are happening, it is very engaging. If you can make it through the first 2/3rds of the book it actually gets really engaging despite some of the flaws.

The Bad

1. The Character
Let’s start with the main character. First, he’s kinda a dick and very immature. It felt like the character is supposed to portray a 13 year old instead of a 24 year old “medical student.” The number of immature jokes and references to women got a little ridiculous and was definitely worse than previous books. Or maybe I just noticed them more as they seem to occur more frequently.
Additionally, this character is kinda clueless. The Land was supposed to start out as a really popular video game that this character was pulled into. Based on the scene in the first book where he gets pulled into the Land, it sounds like he played the game a lot. You definitely can’t tell that at all. The character doesn’t understand anything about anything and a solid 10% of the book is explanation from other characters who are restraining themselves from calling him a dumbass. There are better ways to show things to the reader than vomiting explanations onto the page and the author utilizes none of them.
The main character doesn’t grow at all over the 7 books. He is very 2 dimensional and absent minded. Instead of preparing for the battle with the lich in any significant way, the character spends the majority of the book exploring his new dungeon. He also seems to have completely forgotten about the threats of the eaters and the bug-bears (bug-bears?) that were driving points in previous books. I felt like the character (and the story) were lacking any motivations or drive to push them forward.

2. The insane number of notifications
A solid 70-80% of this book is status notifications. It is literally Richter talking about:
1. Upgrading his stats
2. Upgrading his profession
3 Upgrading his skills and spells
4. Upgrading alma's skills
5. Upgrading the dungeon loot
6. Upgrading the dungeon rooms
7. Upgrading the Town with settlement points.
8. Upgrading the Town with research points.
9. Upgrading the Town with building points.
10. Evolving his creatures
11. Evolving his summons
12. Browsing the chaos points catalog
13. The town budget
14. Setting tax rates
And so many other useless details. There was an entire chapter that discussed tax rates and how banks worked. I’m a numbers person but at the same time I’m not going to care about a bank that isn't even visited in the book or the XP of some random character that is probably going to be mentioned once again in the remainder of the book.

3. Deus ex machina
Many authors are bad about this, but the number of times in this book that the character is saved from death by sheer luck or some “surprise” new ability or a one in a million chance was very tedious. It happened in a confrontation with another chaos seed, it happened a couple times while battling the lich and at least once in the dungeon.

Conclusion: Kong really needs a solid editor. He has a lot of things that are enjoyable in this book and if it was cut down to the length of the previous books (~12 hours) compared to the 46 hours this book was I think it would have been decent if not really good. The author does some great worldbuilding and the story is interesting when there is a story but it is getting lost in the exposition.

disappointing waste of time, if you have any expectations for any of the greater story to come to any satisfying conclusions of any kind.

To be honest I found the last 2 to 3 books in the series lacked story. it's enjoyable but no where near as good as the first 2.

It just gets better and better

Nick Podehl is a phenomenal voice actor and has smashed it once again in this absolutely epic story. I’ve gone through 7 of these books over the past 2 weeks and I just can’t wait for the next one (I’m downloading it at the moment)
All I can say is that you if you are a regular gamer (and even if you’re not, there’s something for everyone), you have to listen to this series!

Decent listen with cringe worthy moments

Father of lit RPG? Doesn't mean that they are good at it. Having read the other books in the series this one is no better. Despite being so long, there is very little substance and a whole lot of repetition... This book has incest, beastiality, orgies, rape, penis joke's, character deaths that are never usually permanent, and follows exclusively an overpowered gung-ho main character, full of self-centred arrogant American bravado ( Think wannabe nerd cross with internet troll ). Set in a world where women do all the house work, and the men get to brag about how many they have had sex with. Dispite all this there is potential and thankfully many areas are lacking in descriptive depth to make this an easy listen albeit a little cringe worthy and should not be listened to aloud.

What an Epic this read was, fantastic performance as always, kept me wanting to listen more and more at any chance I could get!
WELL WORTH A CREDIT, 46+ hours of fun, suspense, horror and hilarity!

ratings have been artificially boosted, Google it

if you use fakespot.com on any of aleron Kong's books on Amazon you can clearly see that aleron kong or people he employs are artificially inflating his 5 star reviews as well as using slur campaigns and attacks coordinated to silence critics and vote that more honest reviews are unhelpful, so whilst I somewhat enjoyed this series, I'm now forced to give it an abysmal review to both reflect my disappointment in Aleron Kong at his dishonest and bad faith business practices, as well as do my small part in counteracting his devoted legion of monkeys (and perhaps even boys) that are employed and coordinated via his Facebook page amongst other means. If you think I am making this up then you are a sheep, as a few good Google searches, Reddit or fakespot.com make the truth visible if you bother searching.

For my actual rating, the story is a solid 3/5, the author has very little talent towards writing, but makes up for that with incredibly detailed world building. The performance by Jeff Hayes smooths over many of the authors flaws in writing style and he deserves 5/5 for giving the performance life even where the books were lacking. I enjoyed the books 4.5/5, but I truly love fantasy and litrpg both, and would objectively only give the story an honest rating of 3/5. All that being said though, my rating of the author would be 1/5 or lower, due to his arrogance, pride and dishonesty. Not to mention the number of deadlines he has missed just for the release of book8, but that's neither here nor there when compared to how he dishonestly manipulates ratings and reviews for profit and fame. Shame on you Aleron Kong, I may enjoy your books, but I'm only 1 step away from boycotting your future works!

TLDR: I really enjoyed the series, but objectively it's very average and the author has been shown to be heavily manipulating his ratings and reviews... Now watch as his team of worker monkeys bury this unbiased, critical review in with "unhelpful" markers... please vote helpful if you found this to be informative

Guilty pleasure fanfic

I always get annoyed at how little the author pays attention to what they write, with almost every chapter having an error where they've said something is 100% then suddenly forgets and says it's 150%, 50 feet then whoops it's now 50 yards or that levels are Luxurious, Comfortable, overcrowded but then nope, it's now comfortable, crowded, cramped or something. It's clear the author hasn't planned any of this out even records their own rules and just Deus ex machinas everything, and makes the characters insufferable but somehow everyone loves them. They also love to explain things over and over everytime something happens seemingly just to increase word count. "Yup, we're explaining the talent tree again. This one's Blue and things coming off it but hey there's a red one over here and blah blah blah, Prepare for 15 minutes of something you've heard a dozen times already"

Still, it's hard to stop listening but it's in more of a "So bad it's good" kind of way than it actually being a good story.

confused

It's clear the author tried to do to much in this book and it wasn't will edited or balanced. New characters introduced without back stories, significant random discussions that wasn't important to the story. This needs a Re-edit and restructure.
