Narrator

The story is as I remembered- absolutely fluff but fun to read. The narrator starts out great but quickly moves into strangely inconsistent accents. It definitely took me out of the story. Rune starts with a mild brogue and then goes to the American south (very overdone Scarlett O'Hara style) then back to brogue - in the same piece of dialogue! There's also not a lot of differentiation between characters and I occasionally had trouble following conversation. It's too bad the narrator took me out of the story so often. She has a great voice - but for the love of God pick an accent and stick with it.

Loved it!

A great story that I read years ago. And Christa Lewis is a fabulous narrator. I look forward to listening to the rest of the books in the series.

Love the book, but narrator lost her accent...

I LOVE this book. I have the hard copy at home, and was excited to find it so I could listen to it while I drive.

The narrator starts out great. And she's (the narrator) great when she's not "doing voices". Originally, the characters start off with kindof... a peasant's brogue accent. 10/10 sounds great.

But shortly in, when she starts getting to more emotional scenes, the main character's accemt turned into a southern belle. Then it turned into some kind of Louisiana bayou-esque accent. Then it would switch back to the original. Every time the accent has changed so far has been incredibly jarring and happens during many of the "peak" moments of the story. If there's another option for a narrator to buy, I would say try a different narrator.

Again, this BOOK is fabulous. And the narrator had a good voice - she just needs consistancy when she gets to exciting dialogue in the story because the changing accent is so jarring and annoying.

I waited for years for this book to be Narrated.

I wish they had found a narrator worthy of the job. A story is told, but it isn't anywhere near as entertaining as when I've read it myself over the years. Rune does not come alive for me.

This story is simple, easy, an escape that soon is with friends. Buy the paper copy or even digital first. Get the most out of it.

Good story

Story was good. Rambles a bit. Narrator switches accents so many times that character voices get blended. The stuttering character is overdone. We get it, the character stutters, but its a lot and it grates. It would be worse if the story didn’t keep our attention.

Just cant finish it

I think i wasted one of my credits giving this one I try. I enjoy any book by Mercedes Lackey but this I just cant finish the audio book. The narrator was fine but this is a super slow character build and she is not interesting at all.

Great story, shame about the accents!

I know the story and love the story. Unfortunately I listened to this despite the narrator not because of them. Absolutely the worst character accents that are some terrible mish-mash of what the narrator thinks Irish and English people sound like and it wavers all over the place with inconsistent sounds. Please, if you can’t do a good accent, then don’t try. I hope more of the Bardic Voices series are recorded by a different narrator!
