The Suns of Harry

Again, Joshua Saxon delivers unto us mere mortals the worlds and words of the Master Lumley! This is a MONSTER of a book in so many ways! Complex tales of the sons of Harry, both in this realm and the realm of The Last Aerie. The journey of the almost 24 hour long reading is worth every breath and nuance of Joshua's vocal performances here. His rich tones and various accents will have you enthralled into the words of Master Lumley and the time will pass wit a quickness. There can be no spoilers here, just kick back, put on your headphones and again, listen to the voice of the Master's words given life (and death) through the masterful rendition served here to us mere mortals via the soothing and sometimes eerie tones of Joshua! To Brian and Silky....yes....Joshua is the ONLY one that should be reading Brian's works from now on...he has become a master of the complexities that make these books a joy to have read and now to hear in all their glorious nightmarish tones!

An intriguing tale

The Last Aerie.
This is a dark fantasy novel. And quite long.
I think it's book 7.
I wasn't sure if I'd like it. But it dragged me in and kept me intrigued. Don't know how to describe it so I'll leave that to the cover blurb.
But I do recommend it. it's a cracking good read.

The Last Aerie

I had a love/hate relationship with this book. I got the audiobook and the narration from Joshua Saxon was spot on as always. He is amazing. Flat out, masterful. The story was good overall, but there was so much in there that I could have done without and, in my view, didn't bring anything to the table. The book would have been better with probably half the content, IMO. This is my least enjoyed book by Brian Lumley unfortunately.

Brilliant - The Necroscope Books Are Back on Track

At last a change in narrator means that the Necroscope story is back on track.

It’s fair to say I’d become disillusioned with the audiobooks due to the previous poor narrator.

However, Joshua Saxon’s narration has made the series enjoyable once more. He has bought all the characters to life.

Unlike the previous narrator, he makes the Vamphyri sound evil. He also gives believable voices and accents to the other characters.

As always Brian Lumley’s story grips you from the start. He’s cleverly left a number of strands of the story open. So much so that I can’t wait for the next book!

Horrifyingly Awesome!

First off the story is great, well worth a listen.
I am so pleased they have dropped the previous voice actor as he spoiled the experience with his children's book narration style however he is gone and the new guy is much better.
Things are heating up fast for both brothers. Nathan thrown through Starsides hell gate into the grasp of a ex soviet megalomaniac. Nesta finds he has inherited his father's ability to converse with the dead, albeit a warped version of it.
Superb stuff!!

A Great Atmosphere

This series of books has been much loved by myself
for years. I had struggled with the previous narrator not getting the tone right, but Joshua Saxon is perfect for it. So much easier to get totally wrapped up in the story when the voice is right for the theme. Brilliant!

The Best Necroscope Audiobook Yet!

Brian Lumley's Vampire World books have long been favourites of mine. The stories are endlessly entertaining with a sense of scale and detail that is truly astonishing.
While I've enjoyed previous Necroscope audiobooks, I've always felt that the narration could have been better. There just seemed to be something missing. They didn't really have the gravitas that this series truly deserves.
Well, the Audible Gods must've heard my prayers! Not only has the series got a new narrator, but he happens to be my absolute favourite audiobook narrator. I have been a fan of Joshua Saxon since first listening to his stunning work on Lumley's Haggopian short story collection. I've since listened to all of his Lumley audiobooks and they're all equally impressive, but his work on The Last Aerie has risen to a whole new level of excellence. He is a natural storyteller, and combined with the excellent writing of Lumley, this audiobook really can't be faulted.
A truly epic listen from the fine folk at Crossroad Press. Highly recommended.

A VAST Improvement In Narration.

Joshua Saxon is fast becoming the deciding factor in wether or not I buy a Lumley Audiobook and in previous reviews I've made no secret of my opinion that he's the man for the job when it comes to telling the stories of The Necroscope.

It's always nice to be proven right.

24 hours is a long listen but with Saxon in the reader's chair I feel more connected to the characters, more able to follow and invest in the separate threads and generally much more engaged with the story. No pitch shifting or special effects were necessary for this narrator because he is quite simply a natural. Bravo!

The story is suitably epic and is among my favourite of the Necroscope series so far. The fantastical world of Sun side/Star side and the more mundane down to earth "gadgets and ghosts" world blend perhaps better than they have so far as Lumley seems to enjoy being in both equally.

I wasn't originally too sure about how invested I could get in the two brothers and their divergent paths but this book pays off on / builds upon what's come before in a satisfying and cohesive way and I had a much more clear sense of who they were by the end of it. The next book is certain to be an epic.

Lumley, Saxon and Necroscope are now an essential part of my psychological lockdown survival kit. Thank you, Audible!

A Supernatural and Spooks Spectacular

The continuation of the Classic Vampire World series which crosses over metaphysics and the mundane seamlessly. Brian Lumley knows how to keep your interest with the world and Joshua Saxon has a way to have you waiting on each word to see what's coming next.
