Publisher's Summary

An Amazon Charts, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal bestselling series.

An American operative in Russia is on the run for his life in a thriller of heart-stopping betrayal and international intrigue by the New York Times bestselling author of The Eighth Sister.

Betrayed by his own country and tried for treason, former spy Charles Jenkins survived an undercover Russian operation gone wrong. Exonerated, bitter, and safe, the retired family man is through with duplicitous spy games. Then he learns of a woman isolated in Moscow’s notorious Lefortovo Prison.

If it’s Paulina Ponomayova, the agent who sacrificed her life to save his, Jenkins can’t leave her behind. But there’s no guarantee it’s her. Or proof Paulina is still alive. To find out, Jenkins must return to Russia. Next move: blackmail Viktor Federov, a former Russian officer with his own ax to grind, into helping him infiltrate Lefortovo. The enemy who once pursued Jenkins across three continents is now the only man Jenkins can trust.

Every step of the way - from Moscow to Scandinavia to the open ocean - they’re hunted by a brutal Russian agent on a killer quest of his own. Out of loyalty to Paulina - dead or alive - Jenkins is putting everyone’s life on the line for a new mission that could be his last.

Critic Reviews

“Narrator Edoardo Ballerini is a master at voices. For Jenkins, he creates a slightly easygoing manner, and for his CIA contact, a youngish-sounding voice. For the Russians, he uses a pitch range: rising for a scared but strong woman, dropping a bit for an agent helping Jenkins, and then lowering even further for an impatient, growling nemesis. He's consistent with all of them in this exciting cat-and-mouse adventure, which blends classic espionage and a mystery.” --AudioFile Magazine

“In bestseller Dugoni’s fast and furious sequel to 2019’s The Eighth Sister…Dugoni writes with such immediacy that readers will feel as if they’re standing alongside Jenkins as he contemplates his next death-defying move. Fans of espionage fiction are in for a high-octane thrill ride.” --Publishers Weekly

“All I can say is, wow. [Dugoni] knocked it way out of the park on this one.” --The Mountain Times

FREE WITH KINDLE UNLIMITED!!!!

This is the second book in the Charles Jenkins series. Book one is The Eighth Sister which is a 5 Star espionage novel. This book can be listened to as a stand alone because it does supply some background from the previous book however if really want to enjoy this story to the fullest potential I would suggest listening to book one first.

This book is so fast and so suspenseful. I started listening and could not put it down. I found myself waiting anxiously for the next scene with an elevated heart rate!
In the first book Jenkins is sent to Russia to save spies working for the US. In this book he is coerced to return when he learns that a spy he cared greatly for but thought dead is actually alive and being held and tortured for information about other spies. Jenkins realizes he has to go back.
Edoardo Ballerini does a phenomenal job narrating. I always look forward to listening to him.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Mission Impossible with a team of one!

I stole my headline from an Amazon review because it is a perfect description of this riveting spy thriller by Robert Dugoni. THE LAST AGENT in the second novel in the Charles Jenkins series. I suppose The Last Agent could be read as a standalone but reading/listening to The Eighth Sister first adds lots of background to this novel. Also, read Shelley's Audible more complete review which is excellent. Narration by Edoardo Ballerini is outstanding.

Buckle up because you are in for a wild ride!!

I loved the Eighth Sister and I equally loved The Last Agent. Jenkins is such a compelling hero - older, wiser and compassionate but still tough as ever. He once again gets talked into going to Russia to help a prisoner escape - a seemingly impossible mission, especially since he is a wanted man there. The story is non-stop action, twists and intrigue and is full of great characters. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

Super stressful but a lot topsy turvy fun

Excellent book. I'm stressed to think there will be another. Nicely written and surprising twist with characters

Another great read

I’m a big Dugoni fan and this one didn’t disappoint. Fast paced. I love the way Bob moves the story along. Good dialogue. I like the Charles Jenkins character. Did in the first book, too. Easily worth the credit.

Very good

A few trite phrases or unbelievable acts here and there but mostly very good. I like the characters and that some of their motives are not clear. I hope they turned good but it isn’t clear. Looking forward to another chapter in this series.

Terrific Sequel

The first book was really good and the follow-up does not disappoint. It will be very hard to add a third with the same strength of story.

A Thrill Ride!

I don’t know how the author comes up with all these scenarios and escapes! Loved the reader and the story. I escaped into the book and enjoyed the ride all the way to the end.

Intriguing

Great story of clever espionage. Definitely worth a read. Can get a little slow in some places but that’s espionage. Well written and well read.

Charlie Jenkins

I really enjoy this character ans can't wait to read about his return to Russia to rescue at least one of the Eight Sisters...
