Story
"I've been told that the entire continent of Antarctica groaned at the moment of my birth. The howl tore across glaciers, over mountains and deep into the ice. Everyone says so. Except for my father; all he heard was Mother's sobs. Not of pain, but of joy, so he says. Other than that, the only verifiable fact about the day I was born is that an iceberg the size of Los Angeles broke free from the ice shelf a few miles off the coast."

A phenomenon known as crustal displacement shifts the Earth's crust, repositioning continents and causing countless deaths. In the wake of the global catastrophe, the world struggles to take care of its displaced billions. But Antarctica, freshly thawed and blooming, has emerged as a new hope. Rather than wage a world war no nation can endure, the leading nations devise a competition, a race to the center of Antarctica, with the three victors dividing the continent.

Publisher's Summary
This collected edition of the Antarktos Saga includes all five books in the series - Descent, Pursuit, Ascent, Lament, and Onslaught. More than 35 hours of pulse-pounding audio written by the New York Times and number one Audible best-selling author Jeremy Robinson and narrated by the best-selling and award-winning narrator R.C. Bray.
Description:
I’ve been told that the entire continent of Antarctica groaned at the moment of my birth. The howl tore across glaciers, over mountains, and deep into the ice. Everyone says so. Except for my father; all he heard was Mother's sobs. Not of pain, but of joy, so he says. Other than that, the only verifiable fact about the day I was born is that an iceberg the size of Los Angeles broke free from the ice shelf, a few miles off the coast. Again, some would have me believe the fracture took place as I entered the world. But all that really matters, according to my parents, is that I, Solomon Ull Vincent, the first child born on Antarctica - the first and only Antarctican - was born on September 2, 1974.
If only someone could have warned me that upon my return to the continent of my birth, 13 years later, I would be kidnapped, subjected to tortures beyond comprehension, and forced to fight...and kill. If only someone had hinted that I'd wind up struggling to survive in a subterranean world full of ancient warriors, strange creatures, and supernatural powers.
Had I been warned, I might have lived a normal life. The human race might have remained safe. And the fate of the world might not rest on my shoulders. Had I been warned....
This is my story - the tale of Solomon Ull Vincent - the last hunter.

This deserves to be a series of movies!
I am so happy that I finally have the Collected Edition. I have loved all of the books within for years. Jeremy Robinson is an amazing author and even though these books are labeled YA for young adult, count my 40- something bum in as a giant fan. I have always loved stories that could be possible, and here we are confronted with the possibility that the ice in the Antarctic melts and reveals that there is a whole ecosystem that has survived for millennia. Not only that, but the young hero of the story finds himself there and of course in trouble. Lots of trouble. Add to that a dash of legendary beings that should not exist, and as the book title says...The Last Hunter... has his hands full.
RC Bray happens to be one of my favorite readers, and hey, will you look at that...an amazing reader reading a book that is full of shock and awe and adventure and I can guarantee a good time!

From the very first sentence, to the last of the series, Jeremy keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Hes able to make the characters come alive in away that makes you feel they could be close friends, or even relatives. You will be rooting for the good guys as if they were your own flesh and blood, and feel devastating whenever the bad guys get an upper hand..

Definitely not for me!
I got four hours in and had to stop! I tried three different times to listen, thinking maybe it was my mood that was not allowing me to like this book, but nope, it was just the book.
The narration was awful and the story was just not interesting. It actually started out pretty decent, aside from the narration, but then it just plummeted.
I know I’m listening to a good book when I’m excited to press play and look forward to being transformed to another world. But it wasn’t the case for this book. It became just noise in the background. Two thumbs down for this one!

Great Series
Very original series with the best narrator in the business. I wasn't sure what to expect, but knew it had to be great because of the team of Robinson and Bray putting this out. It did lean towards the YA genre at the beginning, but I feel like it made a leap towards the end of book one to the science fiction/fantasy world where it stays.
Solomon is unlike any other character from any other book that I have ever read. He can be soft, shy and awkward in one form and fierce, unrelenting and feared in the other. Seeing Solomon try to fight his natural instincts and how he struggles being caught between two worlds is amazing. The author could not have written this any better and even though I already have four other books written by Jeremy Robinson, I will definitely put the rest of his at the top of my wish list/next to read.

An instant classic
I had previously listened to The Last Hunter as 5 separate books, but having it all in one place makes it even more perfect.
Following the traumas and adventures of Solomon, the first person to be born on Antarctica, The Last Hunter is a fast-paced, action-packed ride through the Underworld, the underbelly of Antarctica, and on top into the known world. While often fun and inducing laughs, there are also moments of great sadness and tragedy, resulting in an expertly crafted story that will run you through the gamut of emotions.
A great story by Jeremy Robinson that has been superbly narrated by RC Bray!

A New Mythology
Robinson has created a new mythology out of the shreds and patches out of several others. Taking liberally from both Hebrew / Christian and norse traditions, a strange new tale of a buried world emerges.
JR is in peak form when it comes to engaging the reader and keeping the action and mysteries coming, and this book is easily shared with the whole family, while not feeling restrained by the confines of a targeted audience.
RC Bray narrates to near perfection using distinct voices for every character.
A MUST LISTEN for any Robinson fan as many things from these books recur and are referenced in his stable of works.

Could not finish
I don't know if it was me or this book but I could not get into the story. There were parts when I thought OK here we go, it's finally getting into something good but then it would veer off into some mystical BS that adds nothing to the story. When I looked and seen I had 18 hours left and still did not care what happened I marked it as completed and went looking for something else. RC Bray even sounded like reading this was a chore, not his usual self and It hurts me to say this as I am a fan. I hope you have better luck with this one.

Epic in every sense of the word!
Thirty hours plus that go by in a blur. There’s a time bending theme throughout the books, and I swear I’ve lost a week!
The scale of the story is huge, no spoilers, but it proposes new explanations for pretty much the entirety of human history, religion and, well, everything.
At heart this is an action packed coming of age adventure in a unique setting, by the end of book one a whole new mythos is established and every chapter builds on this solid foundation.
The author weaves history and myth with science fiction and a fair dose of survival horror. Quite graphic, but never gratuitous, it sets the scene for a brutal world.
The story is narrated perfectly, characters are clearly defined with subtle tone changes, inflection and mannerisms, no cringeworthy impersonations. The overall effect seems effortless, making it very easy to listen to.
An epic, sprawling tale packed with so much to discover that there’s not much I can say that isn’t a spoiler!

Epically good
Sometimes, you read a book or a series and it just stays with you. This is one of those series. I originally listened to it in it's individual audiobooks, but was so excited to have them all together in this one collection, that I went ahead and listened again. Over 33 hours of brilliant entertainment.
I forgot how amazing it is, and that is saying something because I thought it was pretty outstanding. This is an epic adventure, YA that will entertain both young adults and full-blown adults alike. Men and women. It's fantastical. The trials poor Solomon has to endure. My heart broke. In pure Jeremy Robinson fashion, he combines heart, fantasy, emotion, and some epic battles. A must listen.
This is early RC Bray and was one of the first audio series I heard him in, and I love his voices, what he does with these characters, the voices he gives them is nothing short of remarkable and showcases why he is so sought after. Although, if you're used to present day Bray, you might do a double-take to ensure you read right, that this is really him, but if you listen for those nuances you know and love, it'll be clear.

That was a mistake
I almost got to the end of book 1 of 5, but thought why am I listening to this rubbish?’. I love R C Bray, but even his virtuoso performance didn’t transform the story into anything interesting. I fell asleep 3 times and couldn’t be bothered to go back. I get the title is the Hunter but for book 1 to be just that, then slowly lead up to a big reveal, which I won’t as it would be a major spoiler. Then I think ‘no I am not invested in this’ and wasn’t interested in following his development further. I really want to say what the big reveal is but as the previous 21 reviews said 5 stars, I have to consider I may be too critical. Hmmm, no I am not, it is rubbish. Not recommended.

Oh wow
That's the thing I love about Jeremy Robinson, He always writes books that intrigue and make you sit back and think, how did he think of all this..... This collection of books is yet another triumph and the fact that it's narrated by R C Bray is the complete cherry on the cake. Yep it's a little outlandish the story has a few plot issues but that's the reason why you just need to let your mind take a leap and think what if.....

Brilliant, couldn't put it down
Excellent story, well narrated and acted by R C Bray. Not a story I would've normally gone for, but I gave it a go (based on the good reviews and the narrator) and I loved it. I completed it in a few weeks and looked forward to it each day.

great story
as ALWAYS, RC Bray knows how to deliver the story, one little thing Bob, Australian's don't sound like Kiwi's....best suggestion is listen to how we (Australian's) say words like MASTER ,CAN'T, BLASTER and the likes....don't worry ur still my favourite narrator and ALWAYS look forward to ur performance......as for the writing, Jeremy Robinson has don't a great job once again....

Tried to like it, but my mind kept drifting.
I just could not get into this book, despite being a fan of R C Bray. Maybe lockdown has made me feeble minded, but I constantly drifted off while listening, and whenever I got back in the groove I could not help but think: "why bother?" It did not seem worth the time or effort.
Given I went through "Battlestar Galactica" at a single sitting after giving up on "The Last Hunter", I don't feel that intellectual snobbery, or the need to read something "significant", was at play!
Despite the overwhelming number of great reviews, I feel that time could be better spent elsewhere, I'd return this book for a refund, if I could work out how to do it.

improvement over the series
i almost gave up during the first book but the writing and narration improved to a point where I persevered.
must have been early work for R. C. Bray who I have listened to many times and admire.
I liked the concept but ground my way through as the writing reminded me of avideo game the main character accruing skills and allies for the boss fight at the end.

Jeremy you do it every time
So there were a few sappy gooey corny moments in this series but 3 in 5 books ain't bad. Jeremy Robinson is a favourite author of mine because the stories he comes up with are so far out and away from anything it really is a fun ride.

Great Narrator and Story line.
I will be looking out for more books read by this Narrator. Story line was great, I couldn't wait to find another few hours in my day to continue listening. Truly enjoyed this story/book. Thanks.
