From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

Southern Afghanistan was slipping away. That was clear to then-Captain Rusty Bradley as he began his third tour of duty there in 2006. The Taliban and their allies were infiltrating everywhere, poised to reclaim Kandahar Province, their strategically vital onetime capital. To stop them, the NATO coalition launched Operation Medusa, the largest offensive in its history. The battlefield was the Panjwayi Valley, a densely packed warren of walled compounds that doubled neatly as enemy bunkers.

This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history.

Good story, poorly read
I enjoyed the story but the narrator was painful. It was like he was surprised by what word came next and where pauses and emphasis should be placed. As an example "... He was hit by a stray round" was read like "... He was hit by a stray... round". It could have been better but doesn't ruin the story.

Great Story Ruined
This is a truly great account of some of the most talented SeALs our country has ever produced. Unfortunately it is a difficult listen as the narrator has a very staccato pace that is brutal to listen to. He can not seem to read one sentence without having to stop and take a break. narrator sucks
it's a good story, but like anything else it's not what you say, but how you say it. the way he reads the story makes a good story boring and hard to follow. the first half of the book his tone goes from a loud and clear voice, then the last word or two of each sentence his voice drops low like a movie preview. then he switched to a different reading style and starts making unnecessary pauses and tone switches making it sound stupid. for example when he's talking about doc Crispen, "I got an adjustment on my back a time (pause and change of tone) or two (pause then lower tone) from Crispen..." the same guy narrated "the red circle" by Brandon Webb, also a good book ruined by bad narration. his voice in it's self is fine, but the style he does it makes it feel like I'm listening to a $10 budget show on public Access tv as he's reading que cards written by a 3rd grader. they should have used the guy from American sniper, or line survivor to narrate. once I got past the voice it's a great story.

Great story! Lousy narration
I love the book, and was excited to listen to it on Audible.
I had to check a couple of times if Timothy Phillips was an AI.
It seemed like every single sentence ended in a down note, apparently to provide gravitas. Instead, it was stilted and robotic.
If the book had been read by a program, I would rate it higher, but the utter lack of emotion in some of the most intensely emotional parts of the book was pure amateurism.
I hope Mr. Phillips develops his craft before taking on another project.

Great book, the narrator was just OK.
The story was great, and for someone who was in Ramadi during the same time frame it was pretty cool to hear about things you lived through from a different perspective!
The narrator on the other hand was decent, except for his mis-pronunciation of military terms, phrases, and acronyms drove me crazy at times. But overall I'd recommend this book!
