Story
It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Story
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

Survival in man’s second Dark Age.
Three hundred years after the fall of society, the last fragments of civilization are clinging to life, living in the ruins of the ancient cities in medieval conditions. Technology has been reduced to legend, monsters roam the forests, and fear reigns supreme. But that is just the beginning.
The wind-borne spores are spreading, disfiguring men and twisting their minds, turning them into creatures who threaten to destroy the townships. Among the townsfolk, political and the religious, dissension is spreading. Through it all, a mother must protect her son.

what a great epic story!
I had this in my wish list for months. I put it off because even though it was post apocalyptic, I usually go for a more current apocalypse (love reading/listening as the apocalypse as it is happening) and this one takes place 300 years after.
with that said, I am so glad I downloaded it - well worth the credit! listening for ~50 hours to the same story, can sometimes get boring and repetitive (I have a few book series that I got half way through, and didn't care to finish), but this was not the case with the Last Survivors book series book 1-6.
the writing was great and you wouldn't know from listening that it was a collaboration of the two authors - Adair and Piperbrook certainly complement each others style.
And of course, you can't beat anything narrated by Sean Runnette - that man can describe paint drying on the walls and make you want to stick around to see how it turns out :-)

Totally ridiculous, awful, stupid books
I gave this 2 stars as it engaged me enough to persevere as I wanted to hear how it ended. But getting there was so painful.
None of the characters were at all engaging. All of the lead characters were either unbelievable or just ridiculously stupid. The story lines made no sense. The decisions everyone made were stupid. The bad guys were caricatures.
Some of the situations just can't be believed. Such as Tenbrook and the fact that the soldiers that he leads are seemingly willing to slaughter women and children with no second thought. Earlier in the book it was said that his soldiers don't like him. I assume that the soldiers in question have family and friends that are not also soldiers and so amongst their victims, but apparently they are all, without exception, willing to commit mass murder for a chap they don't like.
Has to be the worst book I have managed to listen to the end.

The Last Survivors
I really enjoyed this series. Not my usual kind of stories but these books are so well written that I couldn't not read them once I had started. The characters were so vibrant and alive. When you thunk about what life could degenerate into, especially now, when we are in the grip of this Corona /Corvid 19 Virus with no end in sight, this could happen. Beware!!!

Boring and terrible narration
I have listened to many audible books of this genre and was hoping for something new. This was a huge disappointment, it's all been done before. The story line was beyond boring , I think the amount of gore was introduced to spice it up - it doesn't. To top it off this has to be was of the worst narrator voices I've heard. Dull, dull dull. Kept trying to find some redeeming feature, but gave up before halfway through

A very addictive series. keeps you guessing from start to finish. I also like that all 6 books come together end to end. very good listening for the price.
a pity that the editor didn't go through the manuscript one more time for errors though, one book in the last half of the series had a number of them .

Wonderful story and well worth a listen. It was well written and the narrator was very good a new concept on “Zombies “ .

enjoyable
very slow paced, was looking for a zombie apocalyptic book but this series concentrated more on character relationships, betrayal and political struggles for power. still enjoyed it for the most part but was really hoping for some action

Could have been so much more enjoyable.
I'm struggling to continue listening with narration as slack as this! The story is quite engaging, it's a pity it's so badly impacted by such apethetic narration.

Not worth the heart scar.
Just another fantasy where women are seen as dumb. Books like this aren't even interesting.

boring
probably the slowest, most boring book I have listened to. I listened Untill the middle of book 3 waiting for it to get going but it just got worse.
