The tragic story of Susan Powell and her murdered boys, Charlie and Braden, is the only case that rivals the Jon Benet Ramsey saga in the annals of true crime. When the pretty, blonde Utah mother went missing in December of 2009 the media was swept up in the story - with lenses and microphones trained on Susan's husband, Josh. He said he had no idea what happened to his young wife, and that he and the boys had been camping in the middle of a snowstorm.

Publisher's Summary
From the Amazon Charts and #1 New York Times bestselling author comes a psychological thriller exploring the things we dare to do when no one is looking...
The community along Oregon’s Deschutes River is one of successful careers and perfect families. For years, up-and-comers Liz and Owen have admired their good friends and neighbors, Carole and David. They appear to have it all - security, happiness, and a beautiful young son, Charlie.
Then Charlie vanishes without a trace, and all that seemed safe is shattered by a tragedy that is incomprehensible - except to Liz.
It took one fleeting moment for her to change the lives of everyone she loves - a heartrending accident that can’t be undone. Neither can the second-worst mistake of her life: concealing it. As two marriages crack and buckle in grief and fear, Liz retreats into her own dark place of guilt, escalating paranoia - and betrayals even she can’t imagine. Because there’s another good neighbor who has his own secrets, his own pain, and his own reasons for watching Liz’s every move.
And only he knows that the mystery of the missing boy on the Deschutes River is far from over.

I just couldn't get into it....
The performance was about the only really good part of the book. I was quick to loose interest but kept trying, the story just moseyed along, introducing characters with a background, and events, but no need to be in the story (character Amanda, I don't even think the narrator liked her).
As for the story, you already knew what happened but the book went on like you weren't supposed to know, like you where gonna assume something else happened.
Didn't care for the ending either, would have loved to know, exactly how it played out but I guess the author lost interest as well.
Guess, I was hoping for more then what I got.

Just okay with an essence of irritation
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes. The story did have some good parts that kept me anchored to the book. There were a few twists, but the twists were all the same so it made for sighing and eye rolling moments.
If you’ve listened to books by Gregg Olsen before, how does this one compare?
First time with this author.
Would you be willing to try another one of Karen Peakes’s performances?
Karen was okay with the one of the main character's voice, but everyone else sounded unnecessarily breathy. The child's voice was seriously annoying.
Do you think The Last Thing She Ever Did needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No.
Any additional comments?
This is one of those books that have an abrupt ending that doesn't really finish out the story. That is something that really irritates me.

"Riveting"
Could hardly function until this book was completed!
The darkness of the human spirit, the pure selfishness of the main characters . . . at times it was almost unbearable. Was it a story of good triumphing over evil? Or was it . . . ???

A great presentation of the is marvelous book!
What made the experience of listening to The Last Thing She Ever Did the most enjoyable?
I loved listening to it and feeling so spoiled ! I always find that I "hear" things that I might have "missed" . or glossed over. It also gives me a different perspective --
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Last Thing She Ever Did?
There are many moments that jump out, but for me, I THINK the last "discussion" that Liz has with her husband knocks it out of the park. Won't spoil it for you, but it really was a doozey.
What about Karen Peakes’s performance did you like?
Karen Peakes does an amazing job of putting so much feeling into every word. Her emotions, excitement or sadness in her reading make the story SO ALIVE.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Do you trust everything you see? Well, not this time...my friend.
Any additional comments?
Would love to see this as a movie ! Nicole Kidman or even Brooke Shields ! Great location for a great movie!

I'm late, I'm late for a very important test...
This is an excellent book. I've always enjoyed Gregg Olsen and this book does not disappoint.
Imagine running late for a very important test, you back your 4x4 out of your garage and feel a bump that shouldn't be there. You get out of your vehicle only to find your neighbor's (who is also your best friend) child laying there. You think you killed him but you're also running late to take the bar exam. In a split second you wrap the boy in a tarp and go to take the test. When you get there you're so distraught you can't take it anyway. You tell your husband and rather then call the police like you want him to he says you have to get rid of the body. This book is what spirals from a decision made after an all nighter studying on amphetamines.
I almost gave the story 4 stars instead of five only because I have a hard time wrapping my head around hitting a child and hiding him so you can go take a test. The crazy thing is, with all the wacky stories in the news these days - nothing would surprise me anymore
Karen Peakes does an excellent job narrating.
If you have kindle unlimited this book will cost you $1.99!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Most intense novel I've read in a long time!
“Oh, what a tangled web we weave...when first we practice to deceive.” Walter Scott, Marmion (1808)
Liz backed out of her garage and hit the three year old son of her neighbor who was unexpectedly in her driveway. She believed she had killed him, but rather than call 911 she did the wrong thing by deciding to cover up the accident.
Gregg Olsen has written a great story. It is well worth an Audible credit. Karen Peakes, who narrates other Olsen audio novels, does a wonderful job with this one.

Gregg Olson's stories just keep getting better!
This was a great read. I'm a true- crime fan and this being a work of fiction was so compelling that I feel it fits the genre even though it's not a true story.
That's just how Greg Olson's work tends to wrap the reader up with such realism that you can honestly identify with certain characters while despising certain others.
I love the simplicity of his writing style as well. He paints a picture for the reader that is vivid and real while not getting lost in the minutea. This allows the reader to get right into the feeling of the story yet allowing one to effectively picture in the minds eye the scenery in which the story takes place.
As a thriller, this book certainly doesn't disappoint! In fact the unexpected twists keep you on the edge right up to the final words and will leave you both astounded and shocked. In fact, my final word on this story is, wow!
