Publisher's Summary

The chilling thriller from the best-selling author of The Perfect Lie.

A luxury resort. Three missing women. One body.

When young London professional Alex Evans is informed that his sister's body has been pulled from an icy lake in Northern Lapland, he assumes his irresponsible sister accidentally drowned. He travels to the wealthy winter resort where Vicky worked as a tour guide and meets Agatha Koskinen, the detective in charge. Agatha is a no-nonsense single mother of three who already thinks there's more to Vicky's case than meets the eye.

As the two form an unlikely alliance, Alex also begins to suspect the small town where his sister lived and died is harbouring secrets. It's not long before he learns that three other women have gone missing from the area in the past and that his sister may have left him a message.

On the surface, Koppe, Lapland is a winter wonderland. But in this remote, frozen place, death seems only ever a heartbeat away.

Excellent

This is very well written, with an intricate and engaging plot. The characters were well developed. The narrator's performance was outstanding. I really enjoyed it.

Incredibly dull

This just bored me so much. There's large parts where nothing happens. Hard to tell the did between some of the character. She doesn't give them distinctive voices. Wasted a credit

Jo Spain does it again

A wonderfully gripping story full of head scratchers and twists like only Jo Spain can do. It had an opening paragraph that sucked me right in and made me keep going until I finished it.
I have also fallen in love with the idea of visiting Lapland.
Highly recommend.

Unputdownable

Jo Spain never fails to deliver. A story that moves at good pace and with believable characters. The wonderful snowy setting is the icing on the cake.

Excellent

What an imagination. I have read or heard all Jo’s books and they are just excellent. This latest does not disappoint, while it’s a long way from where her tales started. It has as all her story’s have the ability to transport the reader to a time and place of her creation.
Thanks Jo.

Excellent as ever

Seemed slower to start as the cast of characters were assembled. However, with the wait.

Good thriller expertly narrated

It’s a good story and the narration is very very good. I tend to not write bad reviews but equally when it’s good I will say so. I’m well over 150 audio books now and the narration becomes very important. This was excellent.

Not her best!

I was really looking forward to this book. All her other titles are superb but sadly I found this one a little slow. Will try another in the future.

Good mystery, good narrator

An intriguing and engaging mystery. The narrator was good, although some slightly random accents.

disappointing 😞

I love Jo Spain and I was so looking forward to it. the story never took off. it didn't grab me but nonetheless I kept listening for the sake of it. none of the characters were particularly relatable or likable. I really wanted to love it but didn't even manage to like it.

Entertaining

I did enjoy it, though I knew what was happening, I so wish I didn’t do that! However, it wasn’t her best.

Couldn’t stop listening

Great plot and characters, beautifully read. The Lapland weather is described so well I almost felt cold. Lots of red herrings - I had no idea who the killer was till the end. Really enjoyed this book and will now get whatever else she’s written.

Dreadful

This was so disappointing. I couldn’t give a fig about any of these characters and the plot was too simple and obvious.

Really enjoyed this book

Just when you presume you know exactly who’s done what to whom it all changes and you kick yourself for not picking up the clues but they’re so cleverly written into the storyline it’s only hindsight that makes them obvious.

Brilliant! Keeps you guessing to the very end

Another brilliant novel from Jo Spain. So many intricately woven lines to keep you guessing. Narrators accents were impeccable. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would! Highly recommend to all loves of crime/mystery thrillers 🤩

Really starting to enjoy Jo Spains’ work.

Loved it.
Nice easy flow to the story and many unsuspected surprises.
Jasmine Blackborrows narration was first class as well.
Looking for more of the same.

Not working

Get to chapter 5 and the audiobook stopped working, overall I’m disappointed as I’ve loved Jo Spain’s previous books and narrator, I can’t get comfortable or actually feel like I’m enjoying the story with this one, I will be cautious with reading reviews for future books before deciding to use my credit on it.

Love Jo Spain, but this is not her best

The setting is interesting, however I found the story predictable and nearly gave up after the first few chapters. Whilst I was able to identify the ‘lover’ very early, It did improve and I did finish it. Shame as her other books have had me enthralled.
