Publisher's Summary

The Unhoneymooners meets The Hating Game in this breezy debut romantic comedy about life - and love - 30,000 feet above the ground.

After 10 years as a flight attendant, Ava Greene is poised to hang up her wings and finally put down roots. She's got one trip left before she bids her old life farewell, and she plans to enjoy every second of it. But then, she discovers that former pilot Jack Stone - the absurdly gorgeous, ridiculously cocky man she's held a secret grudge against for year - is on her flight. And he has the nerve to flirt with her, as if he doesn't remember the role he played in the most humiliating night of her life. Good thing she never has to see him again after they land....

But when their plane encounters mechanical problems, what should have been a quick stop at the Belize airport suddenly becomes a weekend layover. Getting stuck on a three-hour flight with her nemesis was bad enough. Being stranded with him at a luxury resort in paradise? Even with the sultry breeze and white sand to distract her, it will take all the rum punch in the country to drown out his larger-than-life presence.

Yet the more time Ava spends with him under the hot Caribbean sun, the more she begins to second-guess everything she thought she knew about him...and everything she thought she wanted from her life. And all too soon, she might have to choose between keeping her feet on the ground and her head in the clouds....

Critic Reviews

“A sexy, dazzling debut, The Layover is a jet fuel-powered rom-com that had me dreaming of sun-soaked beaches and a view from 35,000 feet. Plus the delicious, slow-burning romance, sizzling banter, and crackling chemistry? Swoon. If you’re an enemies-to-lovers fan - or have even a speck of wanderlust in your heart - The Layover is the romantic escape for you!” (Angie Hockman, author of Shipped)

“[A] breezy enemies-to-lovers romp with just enough heart to keep it grounded.... The couple’s sparkling chemistry and flirtatious fighting make this sing. Readers craving an armchair getaway need look no further.” (Publishers Weekly)

“[A] tropical, fun and flirty summer read ideal for a beach day.” (USA Today)

Very slow

Struggled to finish this. The story was not very interesting. It just didn't pull me in. I'd say save a credit and find it at the library if you can.

Amazing!

The book has me laughing and on the edge of my seat. The plot is very well timed and the performer of the audio book does a good job at reading and getting you swept up in the story. Very good use of a credit!

A good debut, a cute read

This was a very cute and easy read/listen! I know it was Lacie Waldon's debut novel and it was definitely a great start to her career.

Characters were quite well-developed, and you could tell she has a background as a flight attendant with all of her attention to the details of the job and exactly what takes place during flight and the requirements during the layover and how scheduling works. That part of the research was innate!

Being in travel myself, I really loved this story, seeing another part of the puzzle. The chemistry between all of the characters - between Ava and Jack as well as between Ava and Anna (and even Ava and Pilot Paul) - was beautifully crafted, and the storyline was something we don't see in any other romance novels out there.

It was a slow burn story between a one-sided enemies to lovers type of trope, after Ava experiences some heartbreak from an unsuited relationship. I did have some discomfort with how that relationship aspect was handled, and do wish there was some more steam, but overall was a great story.

cute, fun, couldn't stop listening

this is obviously another enemies to lovers trope, but with fun twists and added depth that made it believable and enjoyable.

Romanticly Sweet

A super cute and funny rom-com that had me giggling and a bit teary at times. A perfect debut novel by flight attendant and now published author Lacie Waldon. Such amazing and likable characters. Two I disliked was the captain of the flight. Who was beyond stiff and boring haha, but he made up for it in the car ride at the end. The other one I didn't like was definitely Alexander. The hell I would let him make all kinds of decisions and not listen to me. I would never be in a relationship like that. Over all a beautiful love story and I loved the banter between our two protagonists. Congratulations Lacie! I can't wait to read what you write next

Entertaining but not satisfying

Most all chick lit is very predictable, but there’s not a lot of payoff here. Another 2-3 chapters may have added a lot to the story.

Wait for it to be free

I baught this book because I really enjoyed The Hating Games. it is similar in the overall story but the characters were incredibly annoying. I had to finish it because Amazon wouldn't let me exchange it.
I hate writing a bad review on someone's work but this book was my least favorite this year.
