Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Story
Some of the parchment pages were the color of cream, thick and substantial, made to last many, many lifetimes. Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer's style of calligraphy had not been in common use for 300 years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history.

Story
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Excellent bridge book!
The book filled in a few gaps for me that before were only events that had been mentioned but without much elaboration. The author drops little golden nuggets throughout the drizdt series and it was nice for some of those events to be written and compiled.

fun intro to the world
I've lived and played D&D for many years but somehow never got into any of the novels. After hearing about the cast of people reading the short stories I was sold. All the stories were great and make me want to know more about this world. The only downside was Ice Tea's performance. It would have been fun to have him read one of the shorter chapters but I can't even tell you what his story was about because I just couldn't listen to it.

Wish a couple of the narrators were better
Would you listen to The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories again? Why?
The stories, typical of R.A. Salvatore, were excellent. He has long been one of my favorite writers of fantasy. However, a couple of the narrators were less than stellar, and were a disappointment. Ice-T, and his pretentious insistence on pronouncing the 'w' in 'sword' was the low point for me. In a couple of the action sequences, when he got more excited, he actually pronounced the word correctly, revealing the mispronunciation was an affectation. The highlights of the narration, for me, were Felicia Hardy, Tom Felton, Will Wheaton, and Sean Astin. David Duchovny was the other letdown.
I will listen to the audio book again, but will likely avoid the chapter read by Ice-T. This is a shame, as that chapter has arguably the best Drizzt battle sequences.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories?
I really enjoyed finding out more of the backstory on Guenhwyvar. Tom Felton did an excellent job narrating.

A Great Listen , mostly
The stories are great. I enjoyed them from start to finish. Most of the narrators are also great. A couple don't really perform as well as the others. I'm not sure if it's because the stories settings don't match with the style of their performance, or if they didn't try as hard as the others.
Notably Ice T's performance doesn't seem to match the story he reads.

Not Bad... Overall
What did you like best about this story?
It isn't just one story... it is a short story anthology. I liked hearing about different characters who have appeared in the novels of the Legend of Drizzt. Wil Wheaton was an especially engaging narrator.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The lack of enthusiasm from certain narrators: Ice-T and David Duchovny (sp.?), I'm sorry to say lacked feeling and affected my ability to connect with their respective stories.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
A couple of the narrators made me groan in frustration at their lack of feeling. See the previous question

Legend of Drizzt. So, so.
OK, so from the off, I'm a fan of fantasy fiction, D&D, Drizzt and the Forgotten Realms. I enjoy a good audio book, but this is very mixed. Some of the All Star cast are really very poor narrators. Some of the stories are cliché ridden digressions and many don't even mention Drizzt. To be honest some of the narrators were so poor I skipped their stories after listening with my teeth on edge. I even considered returning the purchase.
And who does not know the W in sword is silent? sigh.

Mixed performances, disconnected stories
Cast performance varies with Dan Harmon and Al Jankovic being stand outs and Ice T unfortunately being a low point (elvish names do not come naturally to him, and a pretty philosophical story does not fit his narrative voice). Similarly, the interest of the stories varies for me as someone not intimately aware of the history of the legend of Drizzt but still fairly engaging throughout

Overall, good
It is hard to do a performance review of soany different narrators. Some were amazing. Some were abysmal and did not know how to pronounce simple words. Some stories were great, others less. In the end, on average, pretty good. Will Wheaton, you're amazing. So much passion when reading. Really loved his part.

Huge variation in performance of the narrators
Overall some nice stories. I didn't know from the beginning that is was a collection of novels. The narrators however good have done a better job. Some of them was so annoying to listen to, that the story "disappeared" and you could only focus on the irritating way of pronunciation.

A combination of great writing (as expected from Salvatore), and great narration. While I found all the narrators good, Ice T certainly stood out for me; I would love to hear him narrate the rest of Salvatore's work (that would be an awesome combination).

Great book
I love the book series sadly one of the narrators has an odd pronunciation of the word sword (sw-ward) that for me anyway really took me put of the moment in a surprisingly jarring way.
Otherwise well worth the listen.

Good selection of narrators.
some better than others but all did a decent job. My standout was Will Wheaton, supurb! Wishing now he would redo all of R. A. Salvatore's collection.
