On Winston Churchill’s first day as prime minister, Adolf Hitler invaded Holland and Belgium. Poland and Czechoslovakia had already fallen, and the Dunkirk evacuation was just two weeks away. For the next 12 months, Hitler would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 Britons. It was up to Churchill to hold his country together and persuade President Franklin Roosevelt that Britain was a worthy ally - and willing to fight to the end. From the New York Times best-selling authors of America's First Daughter comes the epic story of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton - a revolutionary woman who, like her new nation, struggled to define herself in the wake of war, betrayal, and tragedy. In this haunting, moving, and beautifully written book, Dray and Kamoie used thousands of letters and original sources to tell Eliza's story as it's never been told before - not just as the wronged wife at the center of a political sex scandal but also as a founding mother who shaped an American legacy in her own right.

Another great story by Lars D. H. Hebdor
As a history buff, I was excited to receive a free copy of this book at my own request so that I could review it. It did not disappoint! This is a well-researched novel that talks about an important time in our nation’s history, from a unique perspective. To make things even better, the narration by Shamaan Casey is done quite well. He handles changing the voices of the characters with great skill.
If you enjoy historical fiction, and in particular, the era of the American Revolution, this is a great title to add to your collection. The Quaker angle is not one we see often, and this story covers it well!

The Light is Slightly Dimmer than the Others in the stand alone series
•audiobook•
This was the third book in the series I downloaded, but the fifth (and at the time, last one available on audible) I completed.
Each book is a stand alone and none of the characters cross over into the others. So it’s easy to listen and follow in any order. Also, each book’s style and POV is unique.
I especially liked the language in this book, oft noted as Olde or Proper English. It added to the authenticity and easily helped the reader/listener slip back in time.
As much as I liked the story, it was difficult to really love this book. I’m baffled why I didn’t gobble this up - it was the shortest one!
I stopped and started it numerous times in the two and half months, but it was just kind of dry? Idk.
Shamaan is a stellar voice actor and I hope he continues to gain more recognition and accepts more books to narrate!

Follow the Light
This is an obviously well-researched novel set in the time of the American Revolution. The story centers around a Quaker blacksmith in New Jersey named Robert Harris, who struggles to reconcile his religious beliefs with the dangers and injustices of the Revolutionary War.
I found this story to be very interesting; the writing was excellent. The author obviously did a good job researching this time frame. The characters were well-developed and believable, and the events seemed authentic. It helped me to understand what life must have been like for regular people during the Revolutionary War. Also, the characters' consistent use of the terms "thee" and "thou" conveyed the sincere respect that Quakers sought to extend to everyone.
For the most part, the narrator did a great job. He had a pleasant voice that easily conveyed emotion. Some of his accents were a little off, though. Aside from that, he had a wonderful voice.
I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

Which is the correct path?
This is the second book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. Ive previously listened to The Declaration.
Like in The Declaration, the characters in this story are not conveniently placed in areas of importance that have a poignant effect on the times. They could be any average person happening to be alive during this era. Their lives are, of course, influenced by the turmoil around them. This book gives a wonderful glimpse into a realistic scenario and the possible upheaval in peoples lives during the beginning of the American Revolution. It centres around a Quaker, Robert, who struggles with his religious beliefs, and a feeling of wrongdoing by the English Crown and soldiers. His livelihood is threatened many times. He relies on a few friends, and together they attempt to navigate through the upheaval and injustices while determining where their beliefs and tolerances lie.
This is the second book I’ve listened to by this narrator (Shamaan Casey, who also did the first book in this series) and I would listen to another. His attempt at an Irish accent was awkward, but his female characters were well done. I enjoyed the tone of his voice.
There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

I found this story to be very interesting.I never gave the Quaker plight in the Revolution much thought.I just figured they went their own way and were left alone. Not so.It is also a story of family, the bad,the good and what war can do to it.I think Teens and younger would get a lot from listening to or reading this book.Shamaan Casey was a very good narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.

4/5 Nice Glimpse into Revolutionary Times
The Light: Tales from a Revolution New Jersey by Lars D. H. Hedbor
Summary: Robert, a Quaker and a blacksmith, tries to balance his beliefs and the uncertainties of the budding war.
Additional Comments:
- Characters 4.5/5 – The good guys are good, the bad guys are bad. It’s clear cut, but it works.
- Pacing 4/5 – The beginning’s a bit slow, but the middle and the end flow pretty nicely.
- Language/dialect 3/5 – The author uses a lot of “thee” and “thou” to be authentic, but that makes it a lot harder to listen to. You do gain an ear for it, but that takes some time.
- Audio performance 4/5 – The narrator has a nice, deep voice. One can imagine it fitting a guy like Robert very well.
- Although it’s part of a series, I imagine each book stands alone rather well.
Conclusion: Nice glimpse into struggles of the common folk during the revolutionary war.
*Please note that I received a free copy of the audiobook, but the choice to review was mine and the sentiments are purely my opinion.

Great tale of belief vs. events
This was the story of a small village of Quakers in colonial New Jersey. The rise in tensions between England and the colonies has become a sticking point for those who would stand back and not become involved and those who thought the King had become too much of a tyrant. The result was that a group of friends had be removed from the fellowship and had to fend for themselves.
It also involved the relationship of two brothers who worked at different agendas and how one befriended the small group while the other worked to make life hard for his own gain.
The inner turmoil that the Quakers felt at this time is brought out as is the interplay between the colonist and the British troops.
A really good story of this time. The language is somewhat archaic for today but understandable and makes it feel even more historic.
The narrator did a great job with the book.
