The messages waiting for Henry Pierce when he plugs in his new phone clearly aren't intended for him. They indicate something has gone terribly wrong for a woman named Lilly. Pierce probes, investigates, and then tumbles through a hole, leaving behind a life driven by work to track down and help a woman he's never met. Publisher's Summary
The Lincoln Lawyer: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience! *
The best-selling legal thriller - and CBS TV series - has charismatic defense attorney Mickey Haller taking on a slam-dunk court case involving a Beverly Hills playboy - but as it spirals into a nightmare, he finds himself in a fight for his life.
Mickey Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk drivers, drug dealers - they're all on Mickey Haller's client list. For him, the law is rarely about guilt or innocence; it's about negotiation and manipulation. Sometimes it's even about justice. A Beverly Hills playboy arrested for attacking a woman he picked up in a bar chooses Haller to defend him, and Mickey has his first high-paying client in years. It is a defense attorney's dream, what they call a franchise case. And as the evidence stacks up, Haller comes to believe this may be the easiest case of his career. Then someone close to him is murdered, and Haller discovers that his search for innocence has brought him face-to-face with evil as pure as a flame. To escape without being burned, he must deploy every tactic, feint, and instinct in his arsenal - this time to save his own life.
*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Thrilling book, great narrator, marred by music
The actual book was well written and tightly paced. Mickey Haller is a sympathetic but realistic protagonist, and I really like how the story kept the tension by letting the reader in on just enough to be torn between plots. The narrator put in a strong performance too, particularly with some of the side characters.
My main complaint: please don't put random music beats into audiobooks! Especially early on, it was really distracting and poorly balanced, sometimes competing in volume with the narrator. The Thrawn trilogy on Audible is an example of good use of sound effects and music. This more like someone sprayed the contents of their free beats software over a track without listening

Music - NO NO NO
The music is so distracting. The narrator suggests listening with headphones to enhance the music. Ridiculous I listten while I drive so will not be wearing headphones. Between chapters music okay but behind the story? I actually couldn't figure it out at first and turned off my radio to see if it was coming from another car but alas it was from this story. I love Michael Connelly &L Mickey Haller but ditch the music, it's awful.

Yet another winner!
I can't recall a book and movie being so in sync...ever. I did not know about the awesomeness that is Michael Connelly when I saw the movie all those years ago, but the Matthew McConaughey was enough of a draw. Since I have begun reading all of the Connelly books, in order, I was excited about finally getting to this one and it certainly did not disappoint. I think it may be one of my favorites...definitely a top 3 so far! My Thanksgiving dinner will be seasoned with the sounds of another Connelly classic while I prepare my spread!
