In this tense, riveting mind game, New York Times bestselling novelist Nelson DeMille delivers a suspenseful short story in the tradition of his classic military novels The General's Daughter and Word of Honor. A band of soldiers in its last month of service in Vietnam goes out on a patrol through enemy territory with a female sniper in its path. Recounting the mission in shattering and sometimes gruesome detail, DeMille creates a concise masterpiece of moody suspense.

Story
John Grisham is the acknowledged master of the legal thriller. In his first collection of novellas, law is a common thread, but America’s favorite storyteller has several surprises in store. “Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. In “Strawberry Moon,” we meet Cody Wallace, a young death row inmate only three hours away from execution. The “Sparring Partners” are the Malloy brothers, Kirk and Rusty, two young lawyers who inherited a once prosperous firm when its founder, their father, was sent to prison.

Publisher's Summary
To survive in a game with no rules at all, John Corey must invent a strategy that includes no luck at all.
The hero of DeMille's No. 1 New York Times best seller, Plum Island, Corey has been through a lot, not the least of which was surviving three bullet wounds while serving on the NYPD. Now he signs on with the government's Anti-Terrorist Task Force in an attempt to stop an alleged Libyan terrorist known simply as "The Lion". The Lion has the instincts of a wild animal, the bloodlust of a carnivore, and the boldness and speed of a cat of prey. And now he's loose in America. Can John Corey stop him? Or has his allotment of luck just run out? Nelson DeMille spins an epic tale of heart-pounding suspense.

Brilliant, Priceless and Entertaining.
The Lion?s Game ranks as one of my favorite this year. It has intriguing theme, realistic characters, interesting quotes, witticisms and plenty of educational/thought provoking issues.
Nelson DeMille skillfully uses witty escapism to deal with sensitive and frightening subjects. He holds your attention by crisscrossing between the wisecracking hero and the vicious master adversary. The Lion?s Game could be leaner; conversely, it is well written and entertaining.
Scott Brick is a superb narrator, although, with the exception of the Arabic taxi drivers and Boris the Russian, all his characters sound the same. Okay, not all narrators are as adept as Michael Beck.

The Lyon's Game Never Gets Started

Fast paced with likeable anti territorist hero
Well whats next? I want to read about Corey, our ex cop turned Territorist catcher again in a new adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed this rolling fast paced book. The characters are believable, the details accurate, and the scene setting quite vivid. One draw back was the length of the unabridged version. The dialogue got a little repetitive at times but get the abridged version and enjoy a rollicking good book with a few twists and turns. Great in traffic and hard to turn down.

Thought it would never end
This book started off pretty well and the plot seemed to be moving along at a nice clip but after the first couple of hours it got somewhat tedious. The plot centers around two FBI agents (1 male, 1 female) who fall in love while chasing a Libyan terrorist who is going around the country on a revenge mission. If you've always thought of terrorists as crazy people and as "our team" as the good guys you might come away with a different impression after listening to this book, as the author makes every effort to portray a the terrorist (really a cold blooded killer) as really just another guy who is out to avenge the killings of his mother and siblings. The guy might have come off as sane if he hadn't decided to knock off so many innocent people. The book is too long in my opinion, maybe look for an abridged version if one's available.

Loved it
This is my fave DeMille book- Totally engaging, believable and suspenseful!
John Corey is the main character you will have a love/hate relationship with- once you get over to him being a jerk, he's hilarious.
I'm listening a second time with my husband who is addicted as well.
Also listened to Up Country and Night Fall but this one is the best of the three.

An excercise in ambivalence
If you enjoy sitting in a room listening to someone who goes on for hours telling you how wonderful they are, how talented and gifted in virtually every aspect of life, you will love this book. The author turns his hero into a personality so repulsive that I found myself rooting for the villain. The main character not withstanding, I found the book to be very well written. The story was well developed and would have been a excellent book to listen to had I not had to endure the relentless hours of verbiage from the hero telling us how adroit he was in every thing he attempted.
