Publisher's Summary
In 2005, Joel Greenblatt published a book that is already considered one of the classics of finance literature. In The Little Book that Beats the Market—a New York Times best seller with 300,000 copies in print—Greenblatt explained how investors can outperform the popular market averages by simply and systematically applying a formula that seeks out good businesses when they are available at bargain prices. Now, with a new Introduction and Afterword for 2010, The Little Book that Still Beats the Market updates and expands upon the research findings from the original book. Included are data and analysis covering the recent financial crisis and model performance through the end of 2009.
In a straightforward and accessible style, the book explores the basic principles of successful stock market investing and then reveals the author’s time-tested formula that makes buying above-average companies at below-average prices automatic. Though the formula has been extensively tested and is a breakthrough in the academic and professional world, Greenblatt explains it using sixth-grade math, plain language, and humor. He shows how to use his method to beat both the market and professional managers by a wide margin.
You’ll also learn why success eludes almost all individual and professional investors, and why the formula will continue to work even after everyone “knows” it. While the formula may be simple, understanding why the formula works is the true key to success for investors. Greenblatt will take listeners on a step-by-step journey so that they can learn the principles of value investing in a way that will provide them with a long term strategy that they can understand and stick with through both good and bad periods for the stock market.

Simple and straightforward investing advice
As the title hints, this one is centered around a set of simple strategies (called the “magic formula”) that helps investors beat the market. The author pulls no punches here — he readily admits the pros and cons of such a strategy and invites readers to try their hand at it, despite the fact that it doesn’t necessarily win all the time.
But, as he also suggests, the fact that the formula doesn’t beat every strategy when analyzed over all time periods is exactly what makes it so good; success with it requires patience, and some investors can’t stand to wait very long. That lack of patience prevents everyone from piling into the book’s core methodology and sending the companies it promotes to prices that no longer make sense.
It’s sometimes a bit confusing that solid investing can be so simple. But this book, and all the statistics and historical data within it, show us that simple really can lead to great results. And results are all that matters in investing — not the level of difficulty or complexity of one's approach.
Definitely check this one out if you’re looking for a new perspective.

Simple rules for finding good investments
What made the experience of listening to The Little Book That Still Beats the Market the most enjoyable?
I like the simplicity and clarity in wading thru so much noise in investing to find what you need to select some good investments (using stock screeners, it makes it even easier). Warning: Does require patience, and I have not used this system to know how well it works... but Joel Greenblatt has a good reputation as a very good investor.

Loved the book from both content and narration points of view.
The book provides a basic understanding of stock investment in an easy to understand manner before introduction and explanation of the 'magic formula', with the author providing information on the benefits and flaws of the formula (based on extensive research over a number of years) and how to best to get market-beating return using the formula.

An OK introduction to value investing.
This book is a light-heated summery of Benjamin Graham's methods for long-term investments in corporate equities. It's clearly designed for absolute beginners, and has plenty of Greenblatt's sense of humor.
It was a bit too basic and short on details for my taste. But if you're totally new to the field, it'll probably do the job in a more fun way than many beginners stocks books out there.

not a good start but a convincing finish
Honestly, in the beginning it felt like Joel was a degenerate who only cares about making money regardless of the stocks and thought that the book was just another way for him to make more money buy tricking others into buying it. But I was spectacularly wrong.
He is brutally honest about the strategy and very clear that it's no guarantee for the future. But then again what strategy is really?
He proves in this book, statistically, that on average the magic formula can beat the market over the long term, if used correctly. There will be bad years, but on average in the long term (more than 5years) it has proven to beat the market.
He references Graham and Buffet, and also uses the same logical explanations and assumptions that they used.
In my opinion, this book is basically a newer version of "The intelligent investor" and adapted to our times.

Fun, punchy, and deceptively useful
There is a lot of insight here. Even if you do not go with the exact method, and even if your skeptical of “The Formula” — which is indeed empirical and useful.
The discussions on the return to capital and value were clear. The arguments against over diversification were also compelling.
I think this is a broadly useful book for someone who is thoughtful and has a proven record.
The name may turn people off, but there is substance there. And arguments that transcend the formula itself.

Fun book
Was very simple, easy to understand with a fundamental value investing approach. A little bit of tried humour was pretty cool. This investing approach has been highly successful for myself over the past 7 years.

Not for outside the USA...?
It seemed interesting and made sense but at the end states it is not really applicable outside of America... tried looking for stocks here in Australia and CommSec didn't have the stocks listed on his website.

FULL OF FLUFF
There are some books you just can't put down. This isn't one of them, in fact part way in, I couldn't pick it back up again!!
when the author started talking about "The magic formula that can predict the future" that was enough..
Full of fluff, very patronising and outdated despite the author claiming the 2010 version being an update, still talks about markets and historicals pre 2004
Do yourself a favour and dont..

A ridiculously patronising book
When the author said he was writing a book so simple a child could understand it, he wasn’t joking. This book is incredibly patronising and leaves you with the distinct impression that the author thinks the reader is a moron. Add to that a voice actor who over emphasises every sentence and belabours the already stupid jokes, and you get a book that is pretty much impossible to listen to. Content wise, it’s actually too basic unless you’ve literally never heard of stocks or the stock market before. Like ever. There are far better books on this subject out there.

My Ears are echoing Magic Formula ..magic formula
If Author could have just used Word "Formula" instead of saying Magic Formula each time, It could have saved half of the pages. All you keep hearing is Magic formula magic formula. and Magic Formula is given in just Last hour of book and takes 15 mins to explain , that's it.

Excellent book, Cringe worthy narration
This book is awesome for any investor, and is well written. Unfortunately the narration is pretty cheesy in its delivery.
