My favorite city
When I started this book, I hadn’t realized that it took place in York, a city that I’m head over heels for! Not only that, but the fictional Emporium is by the very real Little Apple Bookshop, on the very block where I stay when I’m there. I admit it - this sense of revisiting my best memories there definitely impacted my assessment of the story.
If I’m being real, though, I almost walked away from this book a couple of times because of how weak-minded Hope can be when it comes to men. I also have trouble with considering someone a best friend when he jumps to the worst conclusions and rushes to judge you, instead of listening and understanding.
With the audiobook, I was hoping for some of the rich Yorkshire accents that characterize the lovely people of York. However, with two rare exceptions (and one is Irish!), the vast majority of characters sounded like they’d just stepped off the train from London.

gorgeous story.
who doesn't love a story that has been narrated by Karen Cass.
The story is beautiful, well written and the friendships and bonds are believable.
I did guess a lot of the twist, but being into romance novels I guess that comes with it.
perfectly well presented story.

Very good
Really really enjoyed this. There was a surprising historical story interwoven throughout that I wasn’t expecting but which I thoroughly enjoyed. Plus lots of other storylines going on so this book had a few layers to it which held interest all the way through. The narrator was excellent, great distinction between characters. This is my first book by this author and already seeking out some of her others! Would recommend.

Addictive, predictable, feel good but drivel all the same
An OK story, but I disliked the constant repeats of what had gone on, as though the reader has no memory of what’s happened. Don’t treat everyone as though they are stupid.

One for listening to while doing something boring
An unchallenging listen, predictable story and saccharine sweet obvious plot. No surprises but a comfy story which kept me company while cleaning the house and on a long car journey. Pleasant enough but won't listen to again, I'm surprised it isn't a free listen included in membership.

lovely story, one slight niggle
I enjoyed this and liked the characters. My only frustration is that now and then it would tell us things we already know. I don't need a recap about when two people met or a particular event within the story, I know because I was listening. It stops you feeling a part of the story. The novel could therefore do with a bit of an edit but it is still a feel good story well worth a listen.
