Publisher's Summary

It takes a tough mind-set to be a successful sniper, to be able to dig in for days on your own as you wait for your target, to stay calm on a battlefield when you yourself have become the target the enemy most wants to take out. Craig Harrison has what it takes, and in November 2009 in Afghanistan, under intense pressure, he saved the lives of his comrades with the longest confirmed sniper kill - 2,475 metres, the length of 25 football pitches.

In this unflinching autobiography, Craig catapults us into the heat of the action as he describes his active service in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan and gives heart-stopping accounts of his sniper ops as he fought for his life on the rooftops of Basra and the barren hills of Helmand province. Craig was blown up by an IED in Afghanistan and left battling severe PTSD. After his identity was revealed in the press, he also had to cope with al-Qaeda threats against him and his family. For Craig, the price of heroism has been devastatingly high.

Probably the best audiobook I've listened to

It's a fascinating insight into a world that I, and I guess most people know nothing or very little about

Truly inspiring!

This book is truly inspiring, a real life view of what our armed forces deal with week in week out. The people at home they protect are not worthy! A true hero!

Insightful

A look inside the mind and make up of a professional soldier. All the highs and lows with a glimpse at the commitment required. The ‘aftercare’ following service is brought into focus too

Worth a Read

I enjoyed the book, more so the latter half. Having a military background (Australia) I had worked with KRH many years ago, I certainly could relate. I really enjoyed the technical aspects and field craft, however his treatment towards the end brought me to tears. I wasn't particularly taken with the first half with some of the embellishments. I have great respect for the Brits. He was clearly a dedicated, skilled, brave and thorough professional who really cared about his Diggers. His treatment by the MoD and Media was appalling. I wish him and his family the very best for the future.

Fantastic!

Awesome book! Definitely didn’t hold back on the often unspoken of details from deployments. Certainly an excellent and very raw recollection of combat and experiences within and outside the military. A true credit to the author

A great account of a snipers role in war

An excellent book and well read. I would highly recommend. The mental aspects of war and its toll on the men on the front line are layed out to bare also.

Amazingily honest story of a soldiers life

The honesty not only of military, battles, impact on those that serve on our behalf but also of the stupity of commisioned officers who still think they are better than the soldiers they command. The yes sir mindset of soldiers rather than speaking their peace really needs adressing if the future is to ever change for the lads and their families.
