He was the shy, overweight kid at school, and those memories have helped turn him into an excellent teacher - though he's never spread his wings beyond the remote northern village where he grew up. The last thing he needs in his life is the reappearance of Devlin Surtees, leader of the gang who made his schooldays so tough. Being a hit man has its perks, but I never thought getting an accidental mooning by an attractive PI while he’s caught on a fence would be one of them. While it’s not exactly love at first sight, he’s captured my interest and won’t let go. Suddenly, I find myself caught in a game of cat and mouse, determined to attract the attention of Jackson, the PI who should be my enemy. He pretends like he’s not flattered by my flowers and the mentions of my totally-not-fictitious blow-up doll, Randy (or was it Dandy?), but I know better.

Publisher's Summary
Laurie and Sasha have built a bright new world together. Sasha is working for the Immigration Guidance Council, and Laurie is landing theatre roles he could once only have dreamed of. Best of all, they've spent the past two years enjoying the love they snatched from the jaws of Sasha's violent, dangerous past.
But Laurie has a history too. He's on edge, his talents increasing beyond his ability to deal with them. And although his father is dead, Laurie can't deny the turbulent genetic heritage the old man has bestowed on him. Only Sasha's love is keeping him anchored and sane - and Sasha is vulnerable, shaken by bad dreams about his life on the streets.
Then Laurie learns that Sasha's Romanian gang-lord father is on the loose in London, and his deepest fears boil to the surface. The last time Stefan's shadow fell, Sasha made a run for it, and Laurie can't bear the thought of losing him again. When Laurie lands a part in the latest Hollywood blockbuster, he abandons England for a dream of safety in the States, persuading the astonished Sasha to come with him.
But the dream becomes a waking nightmare for both of them beneath an alien Californian sun. Laurie must meet his demons head-on, and Sasha must confront the inner barricades that have kept him from treating Laurie as a comrade as well as a lover and a friend. The frosts of a midwinter London brought them together - will this blazing summer crack them apart, or forge enduring love from first romance?

Awful, sadly awful
I hated this. I never expected to say that about a Harper Fox book, but there it is. This didn't need to be written. And it was a freaking never going to end slog of refusal to communicate because ... I have no clue. The attitude about the US and Hollywood irritated me as well and I'm no huge fan of Hollywood and I'm more than willing to admit the problems this country has. I gave in after Chapter twenty when I realized that I had gone from loving these characters to very nearly hating them. I listened to the last chapter but I'm not sure why I bothered.
Audio: I loved this narrator for the first book, but OMG, his American accent was awful. Not everyone sounds vaguely like they're from NYC. The only thing worse was his attempt at an Hispanic English accent. Now I wonder if his Roma accent was anything near to correct.
Absolute fail. I'm sad.

Captivating Story
This is the first time I have taken the time to write a review. The prequel, A Midwinter Prince was a heartfelt and complicated story of two men coming together against all odds. I immediately jumped into reading/listening The Lost Prince and found myself overwhelmed by a tangle of emotions. As I completed Chapter 17, I needed to step away. To take a breath and prepare myself for the collision that I feared and so desperately hoped wouldn’t come. Harper Fox created two beautiful main characters who I couldn’t help but fall in love with. Her use of language and prose allowed this story to come alive in a way that only true artistry can achieve. Lastly, I highly recommend the audiobook. Rusty Coles presents an excellent depiction of the characters and his beautiful narration allows the story to go straight to the heart. If you enjoy complex characters, and a story of soul mates finding their way to one another amidst the complexities of life, I highly recommend this series.

Simply magnificent story of love and atonement
What did you love best about The Lost Prince?
This book has everything. At its heart is a strong love story between diverse, extremely compelling characters - Sasha and Laurie . There is sort of a role reversal when Laurie takes on the protection of Sasha - he has stalwart intentions but blunders it so badly with such misappropirated aplomb. They both care so fiercely for each other they don't always make the best decisions. I appreciate that the story took some unexpected twists such as Laurie falling into substance abuse issues as a coping mechanism, rather than being honest with Sasha. What Laurie thought were protections led to worse problems. I also like that the story ran the full gamut from happy career, happy home life, to turbulent upheaval, culture shock, emotional betrayal, and the action/adventure climactic scenes. The secondary characters are all clearly presented and very pivotal to the story. Such wonderful escapism for this reader.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lost Prince?
Hmm, so many. Many of them are reveals, so I can't be specific. I do like how intense both Laurie and Sasha are about their work, and in their feelings for one another. Although Laurie's intensity gets him into trouble at times -to say the least... I did love how when how all seemed hopeless, a figure from the past appeared to lend a very big helping hand. Laurie's sister Clara jad insights and interventions which were marvelous.
Anytime Laurie or Sasha called the other Ves'tacha ♥
What about Rusty Coles’s performance did you like?
Everything! He was able to voice each and every character uniquely and, in my mind, perfectly. Nobody sounded like a cartoon version, or unlike I imagined. It's an understatement to say he heightened the enjoyment of my favorite Harper Fox series. Took that enjoyment to the moon and back is more like it.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Laurie's about to take on the role of his life. But sometimes running away,,, brings your demons closer.
Any additional comments?
I highly recommend this audiobook and the prequel, A Midwinter Prince

perfect. Sumptuously told, richly realized.
The characters are stunningly well developed, the plot though not a mystery, has a few good surprises, and the romance feels natural and real. I am always pleasantly surprised at the level of truth one feels in the characters written by harper fox. It's only downfall is the overwhelming sense of loss the reader experiences when the books are finished and they must say goodbye to the friends created by this masterful author.

Another wonderful read from Rusty....
Not sure if this is the end of this series...Rusty may have given the impression at the end that it isn't [she says hopefully], but his narration was spot on yet again, with lots of different accents. His Laurie and Sasha are so tender with each other, but I knew the moment they were USA bound that there would be problems [even if it was with the best of intentions in Laurie's part, he just sort of steamrollered over Sasha's wants 😕].
The non-communication between the two really p****d me off, and made me doubt whether there would be a HEA for me to happy dance over BUT... well, listen/read for yourself. Harper Fox's writing is to die for, as per usual.

Beautiful angsty ride
I know I am going to sound like an awestruck teenager, but OMG this book, this book!!!
Don't know where to start - with spectacular performance by Rusty Coles? With lovely, endearing characters that make you feel all the feels (especially Sasha)? With interesting plot that swallows you up?
I am a big fan od angsty stories and this one was filled to the brim with bittersweet pain and heartbreak that felt so real for characters who are transitioning from boys to men. Harper Fox captured this delicate transformation beautifully, with all its pitfalls and temptations. Laurie and Sasha really feel like men at the end of the novel, their relationship reborn from the flames of hurt and betrayal, stronger than ever. I loved their relationship dynamics and chemistry. Goes straight to my favourites.
