“Rosie Walsh’s The Love of My Life is my favorite kind of thriller - gripping, heartbreaking and impossible to put down.” (Laura Dave)

From the New York Times best-selling author of Ghosted comes a love story wrapped in a mystery: an up-all-night pause-resister with a dark secret at its core.

I have held you at night for 10 years and I didn't even know your name. We have a child together. A dog, a house.

Who are you?

Emma loves her husband, Leo, and their young daughter, Ruby: She’d do anything for them. But almost everything she's told them about herself is a lie.

And she might just have got away with it, if it weren’t for her husband’s job. Leo is an obituary writer; Emma a well-known marine biologist. When she suffers a serious illness, Leo copes by doing what he knows best - researching and writing about his wife’s life. But as he starts to unravel the truth, he discovers the woman he loves doesn’t really exist. Even her name isn’t real.

When the very darkest moments of Emma’s past finally emerge, she must somehow prove to Leo that she really is the woman he always thought she was....

But first, she must tell him about the other love of her life.

My preference

Of the two books of Walsh’s that I have read, I prefer GHOSTED. The Live of My Life is a reversal in that the male was “ghosted”in a different way. All the lines of the theme were tied together by the end, but not very efficiently.

Contemporary fiction meets a thriller/mystery

I was pleasantly surprised with this book! It took a minute for me to get into it the story but once the twists and turns of this woman’s life came to the surface I was intrigued. The writing transforms from contemporary fiction to a mystery/thriller at times. And once you understand the story, it all makes sense. I honestly finished more than half of the audiobook in a day. Heartfelt, suspenseful, touching and overall a great read or listen!

Excellent story

Grabs you and makes you hang on until you are done with these people. Twists and turns you don't expect.

Did not really care for

Was not invested in the characters or the story.
It reminded me of an afternoon soap opera or a Lifetime movie.
I honestly couldn’t believe all the rave reviews for this.
I thought the narration was excellent but story was dull, unexciting and unoriginal. Really I found nothing of redeeming quality with the exception of the sterling narration. Imogen Church is always wonderful.

Underwhelming

The story starts out strong with a lot of mystery but the way it unfolds at the very end was underwhelming.

Overwrought, but I stayed with it anyway

Some interesting plotting and characters, but somewhat overly dramatic. I would have liked it better had it been pared down and carefully edited.

Painfully slow

So slow and verbose. The conclusion was pretty obvious at a quarter of the way through.

Gripping read

Wow, an unexpected treat! This story was very well- written and kept me guessing(even when I thought I had it figured out!) Unfortunately, though, I did not enjoy the pauses/cadence/voices of the narration.
