Publisher's Summary

The New York Times top ten bestseller

I have held you every night for 10 years, and I didn’t even know your name. We have a child together. A dog, a house.

Who are you?

Emma loves her husband, Leo, and their young daughter, Ruby: she’d do anything for them. But almost everything she's told them about herself is a lie.

And she might just have got away with it, if it weren’t for her husband’s job. Leo is an obituary writer, and Emma is a well-known marine biologist, so when she suffers a serious illness, Leo copes by doing what he knows best—reading and writing about her life. But as he starts to unravel her past, he discovers the woman he loves doesn’t really exist. Even her name is fictitious.

When the very darkest moments of Emma’s past life finally emerge, she must somehow prove to Leo that she really is the woman he always thought she was....

But first, she must tell him about the love of her other life.

From Rosie Walsh, the best-selling author of The Man Who Didn’t Call, The Love of My Life is a story about what happens when you discover the person you trust most in the world isn't who they say they are....

Was that it?

The story started out promising but the big reveal was an anticlimax. After which it was very predictable.

Emma, one of the main characters, was so annoying and immature. And despite being a mother myself, I just found her obsessive behaviour ridiculous.

I wouldn’t recommend.

Captivating, unpredictable and authentic - a book that explores the depths of what it is to be a complete human, and how to love

Never did I guess, at the start of this book, that the ending would be quite so deep, so profound and so rewarding.

This book explores womanhood, childbirth, being a mother, a lover and a wife, through the searching, challenging life of ‘Emma’. A book for anyone who has experienced challenges in how to really live, to be authentic, and how to love unconditionally.

Emotional but simple

Nothing too much complicated but and story interesting enough for you to keep going.
I had found myself with my car parked on the driveway but still staying a few more minutes to finish the chapter or find something more.

Rosie Walsh does it again!

Unputdownable. Rosie Walsh really is the master of suspense. Others have remarked that the narrator is irritating. She’s not she just reads very slowly. It’s the slow delivery that’s irritating. Problem easily solved by increasing listening speed to 1.2 or 1.3. Don’t know why publishers didn’t do this themselves. Otherwise perfect. Thank you

A heart wrenching rollercoaster!

I thoroughly enjoyed this, I was jumping to so many conclusions it was dizzying! Even when I was close to guessing something, two other plot lines bit me on the bottom to stop me from feeling complacent.

There are some emotive subjects covered in this book, and while part of me thinks it might benefit from some trigger warnings, I can’t imagine how you’d do that without revealing too much too soon.

I was near tears with empathy for multiple characters, and I almost wanted to listen to it again before I’d finished!

Thus would make a gripping film, or tv series.

Enjoyable

I quite enjoyed this although it felt like it dragged out a bit at the end. The story was an interesting one but the characters seemed a bit wet to me and it was hard to empathise, even though I felt I should. Some twists were a bit unbelievable. I did struggle with the narrators as both seemed to have a very odd way of overemphasising words and phrases and Ms Church uses a sing song voice which felt like a children's presenter to me. I fully appreciate that she is recognised to be a great narrator, though, so it's probably just me. I came to this book after listening to Alan Cumming narrating the Second Cut and he is absolutely masterful, as indeed is the book, so maybe it's not a fair comparison. Overall, would recommend.

A mixed up bag of words.

For once in my life, I'm lost for words, as I'm truly not sure how to review this book.
Did I read the whole book - yes
Did I enjoy the whole book - not really
Would I recommend this book - no
With so many mixed genres floating throughout this novel I was left confused and frustrated. It could easily have been three hours shorter and that would have lessened the pain.
Not one for me, sorry.

Recommend

Great story with lots of twists. Narration brilliant in parts and intensely irritating in others
