Publisher's Summary

Quentin Coldwater has lost everything. He has been cast out of the secret magical land of Fillory and now, friendless and broke, he returns to where his story began: Brakebills Preparatory College of Magic. But Quentin's past soon catches up with him....

Meanwhile, Fillory's magical barriers are failing, and barbarians from the north have invaded. To save their beloved world from extinction, Eliot and Janet, High King and Queen of Fillory, must embark on a final, dangerous quest.

Quentin's adventure takes him from Antarctica to the enchanted Neitherlands, where he finds old friends. But all roads lead back to Fillory, where Quentin must put things right, or die trying.

In a nutshell: quite bad. The three of them.

I didn't think the tv show was very good, but all things considered, thank you SyFy for turning this thing into something digestible. It's full of clichés, stupid ideas about women, stereotypes and prejudices in general, cheaply resolved storylines... And the main characters are simply annoying. Also, why that constant apology for alcoholism? Weren't this novels meant to be read by young adults?
I suppose that listening to this right after listening to Patrick Rothfuss's stuff, didn't help to make it more likeble either.

Great series, love the conclusion

Good narration other than a truly awful Aussie accent. Shame no further books in the series, would have loved to hear more about the world and characters.

Bland and Unimaginative

I read this before watching the show and it’s hard to compare two very different styles and stories… I really like the detail that goes into the buildup here and the big unveil about the ram gods… but everything in this final book just sort of happens because the writer wants it to and doesn’t have any good reason?

I’m also writing this review for a change because it infuriated me all 3 books that the PROFESSIONAL READER can’t pronounce ‘wh’!

I have put up with some poor readers before but wow! At least he emphasises the tone of the story.

A Beautiful Conclusion

Simply smashing darlings - devour this trilogy like an automatically refilling sandwich platter - quickly & keep coming back for more, detecting new flavours each time.

Good story to end the series on.

you know that family guy scene where Stewie kept saying "cool whip" in a funny way? This is the full length audiobook version. For magicians fans this will be right up your alley, but I did not feel the love for the characters as much as I did in the first book.

good books, not a fan of the pre

Read all 3 books back to back. I enjoyed the story and the feeling of 'Wizard People Dear Reader'.
I couldn't work out why I hadn't read or heard of the Fillory books. only to realise they are the kind of fictional book you wished really existed. As a kid I loved the world of Narnina and I loved the journey into Fillory.
side note on the performance
Mark Bramhall's performance was great during the sarcasm laced dialogues and capturing the irony of scenes. BUT...
Im an Australian and I found Mark Bramhall's pronunciation on a few words really hard to understand, I had to imagine the text to translate. The over emphasis on the 'h' in common words like why, what, wheel, where and which was grating and came across snobbish when the books intended to be modern and accessible. Also the "Australian" accent on Poppy is a New Zealand accent crossed with a quarter Sydney bogan, which definitely doesn't match the character. Not an awesome performance, but the books are a good adventure.

A good ending. Bit slow going in parts.

Continues to live out childhood fantasies in magic and across various magical worlds. Not quite as interesting as book 2, but it was good to see the continued character development and maturation. If only we could all fly away to fillorie. I think that fantasy speaks deeply to the child in us all.
