Publisher's Summary

An investigative journalist on the edge. A serial killer testing his limits. What they have in common can freeze the blood.

Still reeling from a personal tragedy, investigative journalist Rooker Lindström finds a grim hideaway from the world. It’s the dilapidated cabin on Minnesota’s Deer Lake bequeathed to him by his late father—one of the most notorious serial killers in the state. If the walls of this murder house could talk, they’d scream.

Detective Tess Harlow needs something from Rooker only he can provide: a window into the mind of a murderer. A copycat is on the prowl, following in the footsteps of Rooker’s father. After reluctantly agreeing to take on the role of consultant, Rooker makes a chilling discovery. Every victim—five and counting—is a depraved taunt meant only for him. Rooker is not just tracking a killer playing sick games. In this brutal Minnesota winter, Rooker is confronting his past.

Maybe working with Tess is Rooker’s last chance at redemption. But to outrun his father’s legacy, he must follow a darker path still to come.

The Listener Burned by this Book

Ugh, this was not good. It really dragged, I thought it would never end. It starts OK, then it is confusing, followed by far-fetched, then lacking in credulity, then laughably bad, and lastly, mercifully over. The narrator has a nice voice, but he wasn't right for this production imo. His voice is too deep and gravelly to convincingly portray female voices. In general, there wasn't much differentiation among male voices either.

Man Burned by Winter

Okay story. A bit hard to keep up with all the dead people. Who belonged to Dad & who belonged to the new guy. A little hard to swallow the living conditions. Some difference in the voices of the characters, but this narrator has one sexy voice! I did have a thought about the brothers early but wasn’t sure. Just never got really excited, but it was okay overall.

Exceptional First Novel

I read many novels from this genre and this one was fantastic! Many twists and turns, wonderful character development, flowed along smoothly and most importantly, I couldn't put it down!

Awful!

Made it to somewhere around Ch 17. and just can’t take anymore. Between the monotone reader, the crappy characters, and absolute dreary lack of story; I Quit.

Well Done

This was a Kindle Unlimited offering. I typically don’t like the selections they offer. This one wasn’t bad. While parts of it were predicable, overall the book wasn’t bad. I am actually looking forward to reading book 2
