Publisher's Summary

Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him.

Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere.

But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

The man who killed my son.

My friends and family can’t understand it. My neighbours whisper in the street whenever I walk past. How can I love a man like Tom?

They don’t really know me at all....

The most enthralling psychological thriller you’ll listen to this year from the best-selling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on The Marriage.

Decent

Nothing exceptional in this book. It was an interesting, but predictable listen. The editing was a little sloppy. Halfway through Jill starts calling her husband Richard which confused me since his name Robert.

Just why

I like a good thriller, this wasn't a thriller, this was a drama, no let's call it what it was a soap opera. No intensity, no real story, no twists. I almost stopped listening it was so bland. Save your credit if your looking to do anything but use it to help you sleep.

predictable

I have always liked K L Slater, had high expectation for this one.
I am kind of disappointed, this one is different from her other novels, not as exciting.
Lucy Price-Lewis, as always, performed exceptionally, amazing narration.

Sneaky

Took me way longer than usual to figure out "whodunnit'! Nice little twist. Well played, Slater 😊

Loved this book

I have read every book by this author. The marriage was a great book and didn’t disappoint. Loved the twist!

Meh

Not good. Just meh. Don’t recommend wasting your money. The narrator was okay but the book, not so much.

Just ok

There was nothing overly special about this story. The twist was decent but other than that, it wasn’t all that exciting. It did hold my interest enough to finish it so it wasn’t a waste of a credit. I just wish it had more WOW to it.

Interesting premise but so Slow..

I enjoyed the performance from the narrator, she made the story worth it in the end. However, I was waiting for the book to get to the interesting part and I waited.. and waited. It was a struggle to not give up and start a new book but once I start a book, I finish it. After all was said and done, it was an okay book.

Slater has written better..

The Marriage by KL Slater was a mediocre psychological thriller. The 'psychological thriller' part took a long time to get started, and I started to wonder if this element would ever present itself.

Two moms, each with a son the same age, are best of friends. Their friendship abruptly ends when their sons get into an altercation which results in the death of one, and the manslaughter charge of another. Ten years later, the convicted son marries his late best friend's mother, regardless of their past and their twenty plus years age difference.

The story is fairly absurd and the ending is not the greatest, but Lucy Price-Lewis does a phenomenal job of narration as per usual, and Slater is a talented author for this genre so I would still recommend the book.

I wasn't sure in rhe beginning as each character had me rooting for them after hearing their viewpoint! I loved the twists and loved the ending!

Good but Inconsistent

Quite a few discrepancies with this. for example.. the main character goes to Jail at 18. 10 years later he is released and can drive? There are other inconsistencies too. But they are weak enough to be ignored and on the whole the premise is good.

Good but predictable

I love this author but I feel like she's churning out novels and they aren't as good as they used to be. overall I enjoyed it but I had predicted the ending 6/8 in and thus the final two hours were just frustrating to listen to.

Page Turner!

Awww, what a riveting storyline. Had me hooked right from the beginning. The book kept me interested all the way through and I never guessed the outcome before it was revealed. Really clever construction. Loved the little twist at the end too. This is the first book by this author I have read ..... and I already have her next title in my library!

Great Audible book

I really enjoyed this book . It keeps your attention for the whole way through. Not the ending I’d expected so the twists in the story made it more entertaining.

Original

Certainly an unusual story. Enjoyable listen. Greatly enhanced by terrific narration. Plot relies on a lot of unnecessary secrets but probably wouldn’t be an intriguing story otherwise.

Not very good at all really…

Story’s ok, but the narration is dull - stilted, lacking conviction and too flat. Grateful this was free and not used a a credit.

Not the best of KL Slater

I absolutely love her books and read them all. This one didn’t have quite the same suspense as others. I still enjoyed it though

Just ok...but silly and not repetitive. Went on and on and could have been more succinct.

Ok but the ending sucked

The story was ok but some of the characters were infuriating and the super quick wrap up ending where everyone was suddenly all friends was stupid and unrealistic. Also £200 a month to pay off her mortgage and put away a nest egg is laughable - the story wasn't set in 1920 when this amount was substantial. There were also 2 random incidents where the Robert character was called Richard by his wife.

slow start but finished well

it took me a while to start enjoying the book but once I got Into it it was hard to stop listening.
funny part is the narrator changed one of the characters names at the start of one chapter and went back to the correct name by the end.
astonished that got through editing

Story Saved By Narrator

I didnt enjoy the book- the story was simple & predictable ... yet confusing at the same time. Many times it made my face scrunch up going "wtf?".. but the narrator saved the story by giving a brilliant performance. so instead of getting 2 stars, the narrator has raised this book to 3 stars. I'd say save your money, and give this one a miss, if you have other titles in your "To Read" list.

Enjoyed the story, and was surprised by the " twist". Totally not what I had predicted. Held me captive from start to finish.

Easy to listen but cheap plot and characters

I like Slater’s books to listen on Audible. Her books are easy to follow even while I am walking the distractive puppy. I found this book was a bit cheap with shallow discretion of characters and far fetched story line. I felt it is like the author wrote it autopilot in a very short space of time. Still, it is easy to follow and good to listen just while you are doing something that requires your attention.
If I give Paula Hawkins’ new book 8 out of 10, I would give this Slater’s book 3.5 for its overall quality.
