The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Publisher's Summary
Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him.
Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere.
But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.
The man who killed my son.
My friends and family can’t understand it. My neighbours whisper in the street whenever I walk past. How can I love a man like Tom?
They don’t really know me at all....
The most enthralling psychological thriller you’ll listen to this year from the best-selling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on The Marriage.

I like a good thriller, this wasn't a thriller, this was a drama, no let's call it what it was a soap opera. No intensity, no real story, no twists. I almost stopped listening it was so bland. Save your credit if your looking to do anything but use it to help you sleep.

Slater has written better..
The Marriage by KL Slater was a mediocre psychological thriller. The 'psychological thriller' part took a long time to get started, and I started to wonder if this element would ever present itself.
Two moms, each with a son the same age, are best of friends. Their friendship abruptly ends when their sons get into an altercation which results in the death of one, and the manslaughter charge of another. Ten years later, the convicted son marries his late best friend's mother, regardless of their past and their twenty plus years age difference.
The story is fairly absurd and the ending is not the greatest, but Lucy Price-Lewis does a phenomenal job of narration as per usual, and Slater is a talented author for this genre so I would still recommend the book.

Interesting premise but so Slow..
I enjoyed the performance from the narrator, she made the story worth it in the end. However, I was waiting for the book to get to the interesting part and I waited.. and waited. It was a struggle to not give up and start a new book but once I start a book, I finish it. After all was said and done, it was an okay book.

Good but Inconsistent
Quite a few discrepancies with this. for example.. the main character goes to Jail at 18. 10 years later he is released and can drive? There are other inconsistencies too. But they are weak enough to be ignored and on the whole the premise is good.

Easy to listen but cheap plot and characters
I like Slater’s books to listen on Audible. Her books are easy to follow even while I am walking the distractive puppy. I found this book was a bit cheap with shallow discretion of characters and far fetched story line. I felt it is like the author wrote it autopilot in a very short space of time. Still, it is easy to follow and good to listen just while you are doing something that requires your attention.
If I give Paula Hawkins’ new book 8 out of 10, I would give this Slater’s book 3.5 for its overall quality.

Ok but the ending sucked
The story was ok but some of the characters were infuriating and the super quick wrap up ending where everyone was suddenly all friends was stupid and unrealistic. Also £200 a month to pay off her mortgage and put away a nest egg is laughable - the story wasn't set in 1920 when this amount was substantial. There were also 2 random incidents where the Robert character was called Richard by his wife.

Story Saved By Narrator
I didnt enjoy the book- the story was simple & predictable ... yet confusing at the same time. Many times it made my face scrunch up going "wtf?".. but the narrator saved the story by giving a brilliant performance. so instead of getting 2 stars, the narrator has raised this book to 3 stars. I'd say save your money, and give this one a miss, if you have other titles in your "To Read" list.

Captivating
Enjoyed the story, and was surprised by the " twist". Totally not what I had predicted. Held me captive from start to finish.

Another entertaining listen with the inevitable twists.
This is the second audiobook by K. L. Slater that I’ve listened to this week. Once again, twists keep you riveted, right to the last minute. I loved it.

Glad i finished it
It was a bit of a slow burn and pretty ridiculous story line but once I got half way through although ridiculous and far fetched it ended up being a pretty great book. Great plot twists too.
