Story
It's pure myth that women need to be more aggressive to succeed. Since the time when Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In was first published in 2013, one thing has become strikingly clear: leaning in simply isn't enough to turn the tide. To the contrary, studies show that imitating male behavior doesn't translate to professional advancement for women. The distinctive missing link is influence. The Influence Effect focuses on building influence that will enable women to gain traction in their careers and to achieve the advancement they deserve.

Women of color comprise one of the fastest-growing segments in the corporate workforce, yet often we are underrepresented - among the first, few, or only ones in a department or company. Publisher's Summary
The Memo is the much-needed career advice guide for women of color specifically, finally ending the one-size-fits-all approach of business books that lump together women across races and overlook the unique barriers to success for women of color.
In a charismatic and relatable voice, Minda Harts brings her entrepreneurial experience as CEO of The Memo to audio, as well as her past career life as a fundraising consultant to top colleges across the country. With wit and candor, Harts begins by acknowledging the ugly truths that keep women of color from getting the proverbial seat at the table in corporate America: micro-aggressions, systemic racism, white privilege, etc. Harts validates that women aren't making up the discrimination they feel, even if it isn't always overt. From there, she gives straight talk on how to address these issues head-on and provides a roadmap to help women of color and their allies make real change to the system. With chapters on network-building, office politics, money, and negotiation, this overview covers all the basics that any good business book should. But through the author's lens, it offers support and long-overdue advice particularly for women of color.

Must read (listen) for EVERY woman
I am a professional woman of color but not necessarily interested in holding a management position at work. I ALMOST passed on this book but at the suggestion of my mentor/sponsor, I downloaded it and listened. I am SO glad I did!!
This book is thought provoking and insightful. I am certain that I am older than Ms Harts by several years but found her book full of wisdom. I appreciated her factual information, real talk and tips.
I am still not interested in being an executive, but I learned how better engage and position myself for a more positive work experience.
PS. She is funny and it the book is very engaging. It is a great read.

This needed to be written!
Thank you Minda for sharing the knowledge and the love. Hopefully one day we will represent at the tables of the world and look back at this book along with some others as our roadmap to the change! Let’s support our Black women (and men we love you too) wherever they are on their professional journey. We ALL know the old adage, “each one teach one” and in order to see us succeed we need to invest (time and money) in ourselves and in our community. That said; BUY this book here on Audible and think about adding it to your physical stack of books too! Also make sure you add a review!

The Professional Playbook No WOC Should Be Without
BRAVO Minda❣ This is the oxygen mask and life preserver I desperately needed in my younger professional season, 15 plus years ago. Yet it still provides priceless wisdom on how one can pivot for the better, and not become bitter from her professional battle scars.
Thank YOU for telling it like it truly is, while simultaneously empowering women of color (WOC) to master becoming the CEOs of their queen-sized dreams. Each of us is 100 percent responsible for NOT allowing what has previously hurt us to continue to haunt us! Your 'memo' is the first aid toolkit none of us can afford to be without!

Triggering
This book was profound and triggering for me. Most of the scenarios that the author talked about I, too, had been through. I also left Corporate America for the same reason. White Women are often not our allies in the office and make it hard. All young women entering into the office need to read this book.

'bout time somebody said that . . .
I loved the anecdotes the Author put in. And the stories were very similar to my own. The pain, the pressure, the exclusion . . . really close. But said in a way I could laugh at and think about. It gave me more courage to keep moving forward - no matter what. I'm looking forward to the next book and I plan to follow this Author's works. Minda, if you have ever experienced the impromptu important meetings, that certain people intentionally keep hidden to make us look bad. Could you throw that one in? It funny, but it's truly sad too. We've come so far but not far enough.

Excellent info
I enjoyed The audiobook for the most part. I thought the advice was timely and useful, particularly for those at the beginning of their careers and, validating for those of us who are more seasoned ;-)
My only complaint is the overuse of pop culture references to the point where I found myself rolling my eyes… I felt they took away from more than I had it to the memo
