Publisher's Summary

The only thing predictable about menopause is its unpredictability. Factor in widespread misinformation, a lack of research, and the culture of shame around women's bodies, and it's no wonder women are unsure what to expect during the menopause transition and beyond.

Menopause is not a disease - it's a planned change, like puberty. And just like puberty, we should be educated on what's to come years in advance, rather than the current practice of leaving people on their own with bothersome symptoms and too much conflicting information. Knowing what is happening, why, and what to do about it is both empowering and reassuring.

Frank and funny, Dr. Jen Gunter debunks misogynistic attitudes and challenges the over-mystification of menopause to reveal everything you really need to know about: perimenopause, hot flashes, sleep disruption, sex and libido, depression and mood changes, skin and hair issues, outdated therapies, breast health, weight and muscle mass, health maintenance screening, and much more.

Filled with practical, reassuring information, this essential guide will revolutionize how women experience menopause - including how their lives can be even better for it!

AMAZING

This book is excellent, has correct medical facts and information as well as other sources of treatment for the menopausal transition. I am an OBGYN PA and if I had as many hours to talk to patients about menopause this is what I would want to say. Her book the Vagina Bible is also excellent for all women. Read this book!!

What a relief!

Thank you, Dr. Gunter, for this comprehensively informative and understandable guide. I felt a huge sense of relief with each chapter—relief from feeling recognized and acknowledged and having things explained in a comforting and easy to understand manner.
Dr. Gunter’s perspective puts facts at the forefront—plus, she makes you feel completely empowered with knowing what’s going on in your mind and body. This isn’t scary; in fact, it is enlightening.
Menopausal women aren’t facing an end. We are always evolving! Dr. Gunter proves that from start to finish.

Informative

Valuable sober information. Like the feminist perspective and the check of the reverse of whether treatments would be acceptable for men. In some places I thought Dr Jen was a little too aceptable for me on traditional treatments but understood the scientific lens. I wish there was more information of menopause from the African continent - the only continent not mentioned as far as I can remember in this book. Is there something more we can learn from indigenous people on menopause?

Too much facts and information.

OMG!!
I purchased this hoping to get some answers on how to get relief from menopause symptoms, and due to high ratings. However, I found myself FF a lot because she just goes on and on about the history of gynecology, and other medical facts.

I highly recommend this book!

The my daughter’s friend’s mother, who is an OBGYN, recommended this book to me (I’m 53 and towards the end of my menopause transition), though I hadn’t complained of any particular symptoms to her. I am so glad she did! Dr. Gunter attributes more to “the patriarchy” than I find helpful but I found her medical information and perspective highly credible and useful. It’s extraordinary to me that there was so much covered in this book that I didn’t know. No one talks about these things, as if it’s not a thing. My OBGYN is terrific and will address any issues I raise but I didn’t know half the things covered were worthy of raising! I wish I had read this book three years ago! I would recommend it highly to any woman, ideally before she starts her menopause transition!

LOVED IT!!

Thank-you, thank-you, thank- you! Finally, someone is talking about this. I learned so much and can't stop taking about it and recommending it to others. I wish my 45 year old self had read it. I'm 55 now and in full blown post menopausal state. (aka miserable) Several times while listening I was overwhelmed with relief, in tears and practically screaming out loud, "OMG, it's NOT just me!!"
It was a little more medical than I comprehended a couple times while listening, but I'm getting a paper copy for future referencing.
