Publisher's Summary

An unthinkable danger. An unexpected choice.

Annabel, once the daughter of a wealthy merchant, is trapped in indentured servitude to Lord Ranulf, a recluse who is rumored to be both terrifying and beastly. Her circumstances are made even worse by the proximity of Lord Ranulf's bailiff - a revolting man who has made unwelcome advances on Annabel in the past.

Believing that life in a nunnery is the best way to escape the escalation of the bailiff's vile behavior and to preserve the faith that sustains her, Annabel is surprised to discover a sense of security and joy in her encounters with Lord Ranulf. As Annabel struggles to confront her feelings, she is involved in a situation that could place Ranulf in grave danger. Ranulf's future, and possibly his heart, may rest in her hands, and Annabel must decide whether to follow the plans she has cherished or the calling God has placed on her heart.

Well done.

This is a well written and engaging book. A Christian twist on Beauty and the Beast set in the Middle Ages. The narrator does a great job with accents, moods, and style. She differentiates the voices of various characters and pays attention to the author’s descriptions of actions and activities.

Sweet Romance

This is a lovely retelling of a story with threads of commonality with the classic beauty and the beast story. My girls, ages 13 and 16 enjoyed listening with them me! Great story with a lovely heroine who shows an ability to see who people really are, and "the beast" is a wonderful gentleman! Enjoyable listen! Narrator did a good job!

my favorite

This is one of my favorite books by this author. I love that the main character is in love with Scripture and desperate to read the Bible. I have listened to this audiobook time and time again.

Not a great retelling...

I would have liked the story so much better if it hadn't been labeled a Beauty and the Beast retelling. The story itself was great, with interesting characters and voice. The giving yourself to a task and people. I appreciated the different people that were kind and helpful to Annabel as she learned her new way of living. Lord Ranulf was also and interesting leading man and layered character. I cared a lot about some of the sideline characters as well. I would have given the story 5 stars if it wasn't supposed to be a beauty and the beast retelling.

Captivating and Beautiful

This story was beautifully written. I am always amazed at Melanie Dickerson's ability to captivate and draw readers into her stories. Such an intriguing retelling of the classic tale with wonderful correlations to Christ and the power of His Word in our lives. And wonderful job narrating by Jude Mason. I am always able to distinguish the characters and never get drawn out of the story by her narration.

The Truth shall set you free,

Glad to live in an era where there is still room for “innocence until proven guilty”. It always annoys me when fear causes a person, no matter how vulnerable that person is, to try to hide from speaking out the truth straight away, rather than try & hide behind the so-called idea of protecting the innocent from a wrong conviction. Life for me in the setting of this book probably would have been very difficult!
