Publisher's Summary

What do you do when you wake up to a whole new life...with dangerous urges you can't control? Medic Drake McKennan has never been good at following protocol, so she doesn't think twice about rendering emergency care when a teenager's life is at stake - even if the young girl is in the throes of Were fever and any sane human should know better. It isn't the bright shining pain of the bite or even the wrenching agonies of the fever that convinces Drake everything in her life has changed. It's the way she feels about the blonde with the wolf-gold eyes who awakens a dark hunger she can't control...and doesn't want to. Sylvan, the Alpha of the Adirondack Timberwolf Pack, is the one female Drake can't have. And the only one she craves.

Graphic porn

What would have made The Midnight Hunt: Midnight Hunters, Book 1 better?

Better story line & less emphasis on graphic lesbian sex

What could L. L. Raand have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Nothing

Any additional comments?

My main complaint is that the graphically written sex scenes between women overshadowed the story. The characters were either having sex, thinking about sex &/or both so much that what little storyline there was lost.

YOWZA! THIS IS QUITE THE STEAMY TALE!

Before you go any further, if you're uncomfortable with heavy eroticism, this is definitely NOT the book for you! This story reminds me of HBO's True Blood. All the signs are there, they've got werewolves, the fei (fay?), vampires, and more, all coming out of the shadows to exist amongst humans. With all the paranormal hormones spiking off the charts, it's really an over the top type of fantasy story with the characters being hot and bothered 90% of the time. The narration was even super charged and dramatic, but, it was par for the course, considering everything else that was going on. This isn't a book for everyone, but if you're ready to take a listen on the wild side of erotic fantasy, this one is a winner!

Confusing

I hate to give this book a bad rating. There are so few lesbian PR's being written that every author is precious. Still, this had a kitchen sink feel to it, as in, let's throw in everything but the kitchen sink.

Women getting women pregnant. Hmmmm. That's where Raand lost me. I get that this is a fantasy, but shouldn't it be even remotely realistic so we can imagine the world is real?

I can get behind a female Alpha -- that's a great concept. But some of the other stuff just kept kicking me out of the story.

I admit I didn't get far, and this is a series so maybe it gets better, but with the starting premise being so bizarre, I just don't think I can go back to it.

It's a shame though. And a big disappointment.

The same Radclyffe issues amplified

This series highlights every fault in Radclyffe novels. The line between Butches and Femmes is even more pronounced and is in fact given more distinct titles; dominants. and just as with other novels by Radclyffe there is very little difference in personality between the butches. And I really don't like how far they go to not call the werewolves hermaphrodites. I mean it's blatantly obvious that that's what the author wanted to write about and yet it's never directly addressed they go so far as to include males in the culture when basic evolutionary logic would suggest that if the females had evolved the ability to procreate indipendantly then the strictly male werewolves would have been slowly breed out of the species.
a few things I disliked about this series in particular. the whole obsession with sex is just off putting. the whole vampire power set is rediculous. It makes every confrontation with the sex - slave weres laughable. the wolves have no advantage or defence and therefore there's no point pretending and yet everyone does. And worst of all; it's not exciting in the least when absolutely everything turns on the werewolves. pain, anger, any negative emotion just gets them hard and it's disturbing. there's a scene in the second book when one if them is getting tortured and she just can't stop organisming. I mean WTF. that is not even masochism it's just wrong. the fact that complete negative stimulus overload can cause sexual satisfaction is horror worthy. It's too close to the idea of rape idolizing.

What would have made The Midnight Hunt: Midnight Hunters, Book 1 better?

an actual plot.

What could L. L. Raand have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Cut about 50% of the random, bizarre sex scenes. Make the female wolves have female sex organs.

Over the top

What character would you cut from The Midnight Hunt: Midnight Hunters, Book 1?

All of them and start over with more realistic ones.

I loved this book!

What did you love best about The Midnight Hunt: Midnight Hunters, Book 1?

I loved this book and I am looking forward to seeing where each of the characters take me. Yes the sex scenes are graphic and hot (in my opinion) but in no way would I call this porn. This book is the beginning so I can see that the author is just trying to set the scenes and characters in place so yes the story itself may be lacking in parts but again, this is a series so I usually expect this out of a first book.

What other book might you compare The Midnight Hunt: Midnight Hunters, Book 1 to and why?

This is my first experience with LL Raand or audible books with "Were" or "Vampire" characters. I enjoyed it immensely.

Which scene was your favorite?

I have to say that my favorite scene was between Drake and Silvan during Drake's transition.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the scene after Drake's transition when she was wrapped in the arms of her fellow pack. It really showed the closeness and love of the pack.

Better than I expected.

If you could sum up The Midnight Hunt: Midnight Hunters, Book 1 in three words, what would they be?

supernatural, sex, and sexy ladies

What other book might you compare The Midnight Hunt: Midnight Hunters, Book 1 to and why?

This book is very similar to "Fox Run" by Robin Roseau. Both having to do with Wolves and the alpha and a non-pack member mating with the Alpha and joining the pack.

Which scene was your favorite?

Any scene with Jody in it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Im not the sentimental type.

Any additional comments?

I don't know why people who are not very comfortable with sexuality read this book just to complain about the abundant amount of sex. If you know you can't handle it, why read it?

Yes. The storyline is great, the raw passion between the characters is breath taking.

What did you like best about this story?

The fact that Drake did not allow Silvan to deter her from getting what she wanted.

At first I hated her voice, the narration but I gradually got use to it and then realized based on narrators I have listened to before, there's no better narrator for the title.

Who was the most memorable character of The Midnight Hunt: Midnight Hunters, Book 1 and why?

Drake... I was dying for her to claim Silvan as her own.

werewolf lust

I have to say, clearly this is not my kind of story. I really could not associate with were-wolfs (weres) and never really made a connection with the characters. So much of the story is driven by the carnal needs of the weres dominating the story, that makes for great erotica, but overrode for me what would have been the developments in normal relationships. So I guess if ur into werewolves, pretty unique and exciting exotica, as well as a great strong lead, then its great. Sounds good, no? I just could not get into werewolves and their behaviors (or needs) dominating the story so much. I might try listening to the second one in the series but right now its on the back burning. Great narration for this as well from Maxine.

Lesbians go wolf

If you are keen to hear a world record breaking attempt to us the word cl*toris (word not allowed), this is the one for you. Otherwise don’t bother. This book drones on and on about weird girl on girl sex and very little else. Not that I mind girl on girl sex, but it is all distinctly weird.

Ridiculous

First off, I wanna say the narration was pretty good!

The story though...

It started really promising and I was having fun with it, but the further I got the more annoyed I got. All the characters could think about was how damned horny they were. Even during serious situations, they are like "my groin started throbbing" (if I have to read about throbbing genials again I'll actually scream).

While I love some good smut this was ridiculous, it completely took over the story. It started off with an interesting enough plot but it never really went anywhere and became so very weak. The ending was so anticlimactic and the villain was just some stereotypical "bad guy" that was barely in the story.

The smut wasn't even good! The way it was described and the wording used was just so odd. And then you got the fact the women in this story essentially have penises. They have clitorises that are described and act like one and they have sex exactly like a m/f couple. Even going so far as to be able to impregnate each other. Interesting to say the least lol.

And most of the smut didn't even happen between the main couple. Actually, there seemed to be more touching and interaction between Sylvan and her annoying, obsessed 'bodyguard' Nikki, then there were between Sylvan and Drake.

Hmm

Well to be honest, I really wanted to like these books and the story idea is interesting but to me it feels far more like beastiality porn and this is really NOT what I am interested in 😰
