Publisher's Summary
In this psychological thriller, a missing patient raises concerns in a New York hospital, but as others start disappearing, every dark possibility becomes more and more likely.
To Senior Midwife Lucy Ryuan, pregnancy is not an unusual condition - it's her life's work. But when two kidnappings and a vicious stabbing happen on her watch in a university hospital in Manhattan, her focus abruptly changes. Something has to be done, and Lucy is fearless enough to try.
Rumors begin to swirl, blaming everyone from the Russian Mafia to an underground adoption network. Lucy teams up with a skeptical NYPD detective to solve the case, but the truth is far more twisted than a feisty single mom could ever have imagined.

No Midwife Gets Murdered
There are so many procedural errors in this book. It’s all about babies getting stolen from hospitals and no midwife is murdered. The title is misleading but I don’t know what other title would have drawn my attention. I worked labor and delivery for many years and it’s obvious that the authors had no first hand experience in an actual delivery room or with the typical birthing experience. I was disappointed on many levels. The storyline was preposterous and the details were so off and not very realistic. I don’t usually write long reviews but this book was just wrong.

Not believable
The main character was annoying, unbelievable, and her actions did not make sense. She was brilliant one scene and very ignorant any others scenes. It was as if the author was writing about two characters instead of one. This should not become a series. Not up JP’s standard.

Mediocre Read.
I read a lot of James Patterson and this was one of the weaker collaborations. I wonder Patterson even reads these any more or just adds his name. The main character was not heroic but more annoying. And, her help with solving the mystery was severely unbelievable. I guessed at the beginning who was going to be the villain and was proved right with the last 30 minutes. Lots of details that were either unnecessary or never devoped. I finished it but was disappointed.

Great story with rich characters
Excellent story, and the narrator does an excellent job with the voices from different countries around the world. However, the narrator does an awful job of reading and pronouncing words correctly. For example, one baby’s name is pronounced 3 different ways in one paragraph: Tee-onna, Tay-onna, and Ty-onna. Winding (said with a long i, as in kind) is pronounced winding (said with a short i, as in win). While the mispronunciation of the baby’s name does not detract from the story, it is extremely annoying to the grammar, spelling, and correct pronunciation geeks out there. The mispronunciation of the homophone does detract from the story because it does not make sense.
The way the story is written keeps the reader guessing at who the actual culprit may be. All of the characters have his/her own background story as they weave into the grand scheme of the story.
At first, the story was a bit hard to get into, but once more characters were introduced, it became harder to stop listening.

This is more like the James Patterson if old...
So many recent books have just not been worth it and I know they are partnered books, but some have not even worth the time, so much so that I quit buying.
I was critical if this story because of my nursing and hospital background and things that were a little off, but finally this was was a story worth my time and money! There's enough of a foundation that you could imagine another story evolving!

Not good
I love James Patterson. But, this is yet another book that will sell millions of copies just because he put his name on it. He obviously didn’t write it. I have never read anything else by Richard DiLallo and I’m not going to start now. Spoiler alert... No midwives were murdered. Midwives did not murder people. It’s about kidnapped babies. It has very poor character development, predictable plot twists, and overall poor writing style. The story concept is interesting, but the execution is very lacking. I think the narrator did the best she could with what she was given, and I can forgive a few mispronounced words, because she was probably just trying to get it over with like me.
