This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. Publisher's Summary
Number-one New York Times best-selling author Stephen King's terrifying novella about a town engulfed in a dense, mysterious mist - as humanity makes its last stand against unholy destruction....
In the wake of a destructive Maine summer thunderstorm, an impenetrable mist descends from the direction of a local military facility and infiltrates the small town of Bridgton. David Drayton and his son, Billy, are dragged into a living nightmare as unnatural and violent forces concealed by the mist begin to emerge, wreaking havoc in their wake. Now trapped in the local supermarket with a ragtag group of survivors, David unexpectedly faces a growing threat from within, one that promises to challenge the boundaries of sanity itself. In this horrifying mist, hearing is seeing - and believing. And what you're about to hear, you'll never forget.
Originally published in his acclaimed collection Skeleton Crew, this riveting, eerie novella proves why Stephen King is a master storyteller in short form.
Critic Reviews
"Will Patton's narration will send shivers down the spines of listeners as he shifts between pitched moments of confrontation and frustrating lulls as the characters cope with the monotony of waiting for their doom. His deliberate voice gives the mist an atmospheric thickness that evokes terror. Vocally creating colorful characters and drawing out their utter dread, Patton makes this production an even scarier listen for those who enjoy a good horror tale." (AudioFile magazine)

Great story, but DON’T BUY IT!
This full 5 hour short story “The Mist” is the first short story in Stephen King’s “The Skeleton Crew”, which is a collection of short stories all by Stephen King.
I bought both books at the same time and had to return “The Mist”, because why pay for the same story twice..?
The “Skeleton Crew” is a better value. It has lots of well-narrated intriguing shorts.

Fast and Furious
The Myst is another unputdownable novella from the amazing Stephen King. Short and scary, this fast-paced story will give you nightmares. With vivid characters and terrifying enemies The Myst will stay in your head for a very long time.
Will Patton delivers another perfect performance for The Myst, exactly like he does in the Mr. Mercedes Trilogy and The Outsider. Maybe Mr. King has found his new narrator of choice...

One of King's Finest efforts
I first read The Mist on a Sunday morning back in the early 1980s. I had picked up a copy of Kirby McCauley's anthology, Dark Forces, and The Mist was (if I recall correctly), the first story in the book.
It was riveting. I read it one sitting, completely transported to a small supermarket in Maine, where a group of people faced a terrifying, inexplicable situation. Rarely has a story ever drawn me in so completely.
The Mist is part Lovecraftian horror, part B-movie homage, and throughly satisfying. It's effectiveness lies in the simplicity of it's concept. The titular mist is pervasive and mysterious. It diminishes the ability of the characters to perceive what's around them and what's around them is unknown, horrifying. That mystery is juxtaposed against a very familiar setting (the interior of a supermarket) in which the all-too-familiar frailties and dangers of human beings create as much drama as what lurks outside.
The story's ending has been a source of some controversy but I think it's perfect.
I've been waiting a long time for a good audio version of The Mist and Will Patton does a great job reading it. If you want to lose yourself in a good horror story for a few hours you can't go wrong with this one.

This is the King that I enjoy!
Inkish Kingdom's reviews! Google us!
This story is so simple and so good. It has many elements of mass hysteria, religion fanatics, government conspiracies, and inexplicable monsters. I loved how the book has this ability to frustrate and stress out the reader. The impotence is palpable.
I enjoy greatly the narration! And I couldn't not recognize his voice. He is just like a must for King narrations as he is able to inflict mystery through his voice. His voice, his whispering, and his skill to change his tone is incredible and adds so much to the narration and the experience.
I love that feeling of hopelessness. It is the same type of resolution you get from Salem's Lot... we see the characters making it out! But with what purpose? Did they really make it? Wasn't all the efforts... futile?
